"It's true," Lin nodded at this, "It's just an interesting thing to notice but you don't often get something like that, like I said most younger generations are gone. Granted Four Lands did have several other wars over the long history."
Which might have forced those who survived the wars to sail or caused their demise.
"Here though.. no fighting... So... the generations of elves would live far longer in theory baring accidents, animal attacks and maybe the volcano."
So that also changed a few things as well.

Shiro looked around through narrow eyes. "Though one might expect a larger population then," he commented. "For thousands of years, I daresay at least twenty thousand years, there are only ... what, one hundred? A bit more? ... of the Night Elves. Their population should have exploded like the Four Lands ..."
Unless there were another village on the island, which he supposed was possible.

This was true, but as far as Lin saw there were no weapons beyond daggers and they wouldn't do a lot of harm if there had been a lot of fighting between the people.
"Of course volcanoes can be very devastating," Lin pointed out, "And we don't know how often it has gone off since then and now."

"Or what other dangers there might be on this island," Shiro murmured. "Still, we won't find anything out through sitting here and speculating. I suppose we might as well join in the festivities, have a good time tonight, and we'll worry about the rest of it tomorrow."
He looked around at the celebrants. "I have a feeling we won't be sleeping tonight ..."

Lin laughed at that, "Well we can always sleep in the morning."
Everyone else did anyways, and with that she took Shiro's hand and see if there was anywhere they could join in and have a bit of fun. Maybe learn a thing or two along the way.

It was a few more nights before Kelirahc finally brought everyone back to the beach - everyone except Shiro, who had stayed behind to learn what he could about the culture by actually staying with the people. The others went back on Kelirahc's dragon, which, for lack of a better name, everyone had taken to calling Irahc (the ancient word for dragon).
When at last they returned to the beach, everyone who had remained behind was there to meet them - many of them with relief, since no one had known if something had happened to them, since they hadn't expected them to be gone for so long.
The moment they were off the dragon, Celeb appeared, a dark blur, and wrapped himself around Leyenda's waist. "You're back! You're back!" he sobbed. "Next time I'm going with you, don't go away like that again!"
Leyenda put one hand on her brother's head and looked around in surprise, searching for someone who could tell him what was going on.
It was Earendil who stepped forward. "Welcome back," he greeted everyone. "Uh ... I think Celeb was afraid something might have happened to all of you, I think he remembered when Leyenda disappeared for a week."

"Sorry about that," Lin giggled, "We didn't think we would be gone for that long."
It was amazing though, but Lin was glad to be back. She was seriously considering Shiro's offer, it was days like this she wished she could somehow magically send a letter or something to Aragost.
Because a small part of her felt guilty for wanting to learn it.

Earendil smiled at Lin, holding out one hand to help her from the dragon's back. "Well, it seems you had a good time," he grinned back at her. "So I suppose I could forgive you." He winked teasingly. "But really, you're going to have to tell me all about it. It was dreadfully lonely here, and Celeb insisted on so many stories that I just about ran out of stories to tell him."

Taking Earendil's hand Lin hopped down from where she was. She laughed a bit at the idea that he almost ran out of stories to tell Celeb.
"I'm sure you would have thought of something," Lin assured him, "And of course I'll tell you all about it. The fun part is going over it."
And it allowed her to think by doing so.

Earendil laughed. "Yes, I'm sure I could have come up with something or other." He wrapped one arm around Lin's shoulders and squeezed her to him. "It's great to see you back safe and sound, though, Lin, I have to say," he grinned. "Start at the beginning. How did they react to seeing all of you? Did they all stare and ask what you were or where you came from?"
He led her towards the shelter so that they could sit and have some food while they spoke.

"Actually that was one of the amazing bits," Lin replied recalling how it all occurred, "They just took us as we were and didn't ask anything. I mean sure there were questions, one of the elders asked, but no one gave just a second look."
Lin didn't know if it was because they just took it for granted that there were different people who came to the island or if it was because they didn't really have a concept of people being different. As in, they didn't make a particularly big deal of it. Well Haldia had, but Lin was starting to think it was for other reasons and the race issue was just an excuse.

Earendil was stunned. "You would think that after however long they were here on their own, they would wonder at seeing so many different types of people ... in the Four Lands, we know there are different races and differences within the races, and still we can't help but stare when we see someone new for the first time!"
But that was because there had been problems in the past between those who had different appearances, and despite the fact that most of the problems were getting better, they still existed in some areas. Still the prejudice remained ...
"Have they ever seen anyone else since they came here?" he wondered aloud.

"From what we managed to gather no," Lin shook her head, "As far as I know anyways."
She paused for a moment and then added.
"I think it has to do with the mentality here, there's something about here that's kind of uncomplicated for the most part."

Earendil raised one eyebrow. "Uncomplicated?" he asked her curiously. "What is that supposed to mean?"
He had no idea what she was getting at, unless it was something about that they would accept anyone, no matter their appearance, simply because they didn't care.

Lin shrugged a bit she didn't know how to explain it, "I think it's a very live and let live mentality. As far as anyone can tell, they've never been in a war, or a fight with each other. It's probably not even in their vocabulary. Yes they suffered hardships, but I think there's a great lack of distrust or fear, true Haldia wasn't so happy but I'm starting to think the race issue is just an excuse for her."
Though Lin didn't know if Haldia was jealous or not, but she was sure it was connected to the fact she was Keldirhc's friend and the fact he was the most sought man in the village.
"Though, I found out even they do suffer from the idea that one's station in life is beyond important," Lin chuckled, "Leyenda is now the most envied woman in the village."
