Anger becoming only a mild case of irritation, then it had dissipated again with the threat of a sinner apparently rendered harmless. A lot of his hot air deflated when Angelique poked him in the chest, and he was suddenly very self-conscience of himself. He scratched the back of his head sheepishly.
"Why should I help my enemy?" Right as the words left his lips, he immediately wished to take them back. But what was said, was said, and he stammered right back at her for a moment, shifting his weight from on leg to the other, glancing around the stretch of beach. In the back of his mind he noted a few sea gulls wheeling in the sky - harmless for the time ...
"I-I mean, if I could ... I do not know how to. I mean, that I do not know how to heal her as of right now." He looked at the clam in his hand, hoping for some solace from the awkward moment. "And did she not say it was unhealable?" Maybe he had heard some of Harata's story subconsciously!

Angelique looked at him with surprise. Surely she had heard wrong. The Overseer not wanting to help someone just because she was from the Nation? "Nevertheless... they kicked her out... and we can't just leave her here!" she replied, still feeling rather surprised at his small outburst.
She was struck with yet another surprise when he admitted that he couldn't heal her. She wondered why, but she knew that she shouldn't question the Benevolent One. "Uh... right... well..." she stammered. It was quite the awkward moment for her. "She didn't say it was unhealable.... did she?" she asked him, and then blushed. Had she just doubted the Overseer's words? Oh Holy Clam... "I.. I'm sorry! I... I didn't mean it that way!" she quickly apologized. "Um... well... we just need to take her to the Temple... High Priestest Lorika would be able to at least try..." she said. "You can rest over there too sir... you look exhausted," she observed.

The nightmare had started. Fainting should not bring nightmares, yet, impossibly so, she had them. She started to mumble in her sleep. Her parents dead, the younger brother she could not save who had come back to attack her in the night with the street gang he had been given to for payment, the Sentinel, strong, proud, constant, the Overseer, the god who would not give protection, only hide in his shell. ((The italics is kinda what she's dreaming. I'll let you decide what she's saying in her sleep)))

Stubborn and digging in his heels on the matter, he became grave and serious, shaking his head slowly. The Overseer crossed his arms over his chest, his fingers drumming idly on the clam's shell. He again glanced towards the sky and the gulls.
He mulled over things for a time, watching as Harata slept fretfully in the sand, and finally he made his choice with a dismissive wave of his hand, turning his face away. It seemed the injury done to him and his ego wasn't about to be so readily forgiven after all. "And you believe her? She is a liar and a monster. She would betray you in a heartbeat."
"I have better things to do. Such as to return this fellow to his home." He said, referring to the clam, and he started walking towards the ocean.

Angelique couldn't believe what she was hearing. She didn't know that the Benevolent One could get to be so... un-Benevolent because they were dealing with someone who was from the Nation. She felt a pang at her heart strings when she saw him walk away. "But sir..." she began to say, but couldn't make a coherent sentence at the moment. Her whole faith was being questioned, and it was causing her some inner turmoil. She held her head and sighed. She could feel a headache coming in, but even so... the lady needed her help, and if the Overseer wasn't going to do anything for her... well, Angelique just couldn't stay there with her arms crossed.
She knelt beside Harata, and she felt slightly confused when she heard her say something about her Parents, protection and a shell. She grabbed her arm and pulled her up, placing her arm around her back, and holding her while she lifted her up. This would be a lot easier if Harata wasn't taller than her... Angelique grunted as she held onto her and began to walk, as Harata's body slumped against hers. "Okay... I can do this... it's just all the way to the Temple.... ohh boy..." she muttered.

He stole a glance over at Angelique as she struggled to lift Harata. For a second his stance was softening, feeling guilty for not helping, until his heart hardened once more against anyone who had once worked against him with the Sentinel. So many things were wrong this picture, all at once, as well as the words from Harata spinning in his mind. He still felt a little light-headed from his own exertion, but at least he didn't feel like collapsing anytime soon.
The Overseer paused when he reached the water's edge, the waves lapping over his yellow boots. That was when the sea gulls plotted to attack again, once he had broken away from the herd. Crying loudly, they dive-bombed at his head, pecking their beaks sharply against his skull. Ducking, he batted at the sea birds and ran this way and that. One of them got a grip on his fingers, prying to get the clam he held. Desperate to save himself and the clam, the threw the clam far towards the ocean - where it landed with a plop.
He ran in the other direction, towards Angelique for help.

"A winding path up a steep set of temple steps. A young face of a girl, which quickly grew angry and wept. Her wrists still marked with her wish to end it all. The drug dens and opium holes, where she had endlessly searched for her brother. The brothels she had visited, in hope she might find a familiar face. The street lights which had slowly flickered out over a town. A seagull dive bombing a letter as it passed, in its bottle, to the sea. Her long hair, lying on the ground with her blood, as she tried to find relief." ((Still dreaming)))

Angelique stumbled a bit as she held onto Harata's body. Why did the darn lady have to be so tall? And why did she had to be so short? She huffed as she began to take slow, but steady steps back to the Temple. She knew it was a long way, but... she could do it! And it would be a great way to train her endurance... right? Right. She had only taken a few steps and she already felt like collapsing...
She heard a loud cry, and turned her head to notice that the Overseer was being attacked by a herd of seagulls! Those dreaded birds! She saw him throw the clam into the ocean and she couldn't help but to sigh in relief. It was almost amusing to see him running toward her. "C'mon, into the forest!" she said, as she gestured with her head for him to go to the forest. Even though the seagulls would probably not bug him anymore, since he wasn't holding the clam... you could never be too careful around seagulls. Blasted birds.
[[Ok, this made me laugh a lot XD]]

In his panic, he wasn't making much progress being buffeted by dozens of wings, but after a stumble or two, he finally made it to Angelique's side. Again, the sea gulls didn't pursue once he had made it under palm tree cover, much to his relief. Breathing hard while he held his bleeding hand in his other, he stood with his back against Angelique's, and nearly very well bowling her over.
"S-sorry. ... I will ... I will help you as far as to your temple," He gulped down air, and continued, "Maybe once you arrive you will heed my words and put this woman under lock and supervision. She does not look well ..."

Evelyn
Evelyn had been watching the scene from afar, not really being able make out much of faces.
When Kaos told her of the clam. She had been ready to run after her, and did. For a few steps. She then did the most expected thing for a blonde girl--she tripped. One foot had sunk too deep in the sand, and when she tried to run, she had twisted her ankle.
With much haste, she removed her foot from the trap and stood. She quickly put all of her things back in her bag and hobbled after the trio. After straightening up so they would not notice her ankle, she called after Kaos.

Her anger when she had found to be saved. Mourning the loss of her long hair, dying the short and vowing to keep it so. Forgetting who she was, what she had done, and what she had failed to do. The smiling faces of the medicals and mercaneries, the b-st-rd doctor who had bargained to sell her off for a few crumbs. Her furious fight to get out and live free. Her wrists, now healed, yet with the ever constant reminder of who and what she was. The strange man she had met on the beach. How she had worked to control her anger and hurt from his unfair treatment of her, simply for what she believed. Her friends newly made at the temple, the strange man-child, Eve, Odin, and the others. The new girl, who felt softer than her words portrayed. The man again, who she had to control not to strike. How she had kept in command of her emotions when all she really wanted to do was strike them out on the man. The late night depression, filled with her feelings of unwant, and unwilling to change, yet needing to survive for she had a goal. Her brother once again, who she had last seen when he had attacked her, with the very people who stole him away in the night. ((I think Harata has some slight family/personal past problems, huh?))) (((I'm ranked 17 in avi arena at the moment. YES!!)))

Angelique wobbled slightly when his back was against hers, but managed to stand her ground. She beamed at him when she said that she would help her. "Thank you, Overseer!" she said, with a small sigh of relief. "We will see what Priestess Lorika will do with her... she always makes wise choices," she said.
Her attention broke away from the Overseer and the lady she was holding, when she heard someone else call her name. "Evie!" she exclaimed. She holsted Harata up again, since she could feel her grasp slipping.

Evelyn
Evelyn moved as quickly as she could to catch up to the three. As she approached she realized who they held. "Oh, my Overseer!" she gasped. "Harata!!! Is she okay?" She rushed forward, not giving the man a second look and going straight for Harata.
{{Sorry! Evie has a one track mind when someone is hurt...}}

"Here, let me carry her. I insist." With a soft sigh, he reached over to help Angelique with Harata's weight, and took the unconscious girl from her. Gaining his balance with a wide stance, careful of his injured hand, he hoisted Harata up over one of his shoulders. He steadied her with one arm wrapped around her thighs.
It appeared as he would have an easier time of carrying the ex-sinner for Angelique. And so he waited patiently while someone new approached their small group. Judging by Angelique's warm welcome, he didn't think this new one was any danger to him. But feeling awkward in his silence, he offered Evie a small wave and a faint smile, even if she was more concerned for the dreaming girl.

Angelique shook his head. "I'm afraid not... she has a rather nasty wound on her side... and she collapsed from exhaustion..." she explained. When the Overseer took Harata from her arms, she sighed in relief, as she stood up straight and stretched her back. "Thank you so much, sir!" she exclaimed, while she beamed at him. She knew that he was Benevolent all along!
"C'mon, let's take her to the Temple... I think that even the Benevolent One needs rest," she said, with a small smile.
