KoriAshleyHannigan And you might think I'm bulletproof but I'm not You took a swing, I took it hard And down here from the ground, I see who you areKori found that she could hardly look right at Jon. She kept taking side long glances. It was because... Well, her heart skipped a beat every time he did something cute. And that scared the s**t out of her.
"Just a um..." Kori surveyed the choices. "Chocolate brownie cone?" she said after a moment of consideration.
This was almost too much for her to be honest. She was afraid Jeremiah might see them. Afraid a friend of his would. And absolutely terrified that she didn't seem to care nearly as much as she should have.
Self-consciously, her fears of Miah made her double check her clothing's positioning. She had yellowing bruises, as well as fresh ones to care for. She tried to subtly pull down her shirt at the bottom where it had slipped up, having noticed just a peak of other than natural skin color. Unfortunately, that made the blood drain from her face, and made even HER, look twice as pale as usual. And extra nervous. He probably hadn't even seen. Calm down Kori! And I need you like a heartbeat But you know you got a mean streak Makes me run for cover when you're around

Jon found himself looking over at Kairi often, more than needed for sure. But he couldn't help it. She was just so darn cute. He felt like a teenage boy going all gaga for some new chick in school who had a boyfriend that lived a few cities over or something.
He mentally rolled his eyes at himself and leaned on the counter. "Could I have two scoops of Superman? Maybe some gummie bears thrown on top?" After they both ordered, he glanced back at Kori, who was pale as a ghost and pulling at her shirt. "You okay?" he asked as he scooted along to the cash register, paid, and grabbed their ice cream. He led them to a table in the far back corner, because she wasn't the only paranoid one.

KoriAshleyHannigan And you might think I'm bulletproof but I'm not You took a swing, I took it hard And down here from the ground, I see who you areOf course, Kori would have been better off if she'd just straightened her shirt without looking down, like she didn't care, just subconsciously noticed it inching up or something, and hadn't had the reaction she did. But this was a high anxiety filled situation ok!
Kori also made the mistake of not answering Jon right away. Instead, she procrastinated a reply, trying to think of something good to say. She couldn't think of anything. So, thanks to the delay, she ended up with "I'm feh-fine." As she sat down, wincing at her bruised ribs as her body curled suddenly to form the sitting position.
"So how're you?" she said a little too quickly, wanting to get the subject off of her as quickly as possible. And to get her mind off of the fact that her ribs weren't the only sore parts of her. And I need you like a heartbeat But you know you got a mean streak Makes me run for cover when you're around

Jon raised an eyebrow at her, handing over her ice cream. Feh-Fine? That didn't sound fine. But he wasn't going to press it. He scooped a bite into his mouth and hummed softly as the icey substance slid down his throat.
"I'm good, I enjoy your company.. even if you are a bit skiddish." He nudged her arm lightly, not realizing that even that could hurt her more than he intended.
"Are you sure you're alright? You look really pale, I mean.. I know you're not tan like me by any means, but you look like you saw a ghost?"
Maybe she was freaking out because he basically trapped her into going out with him? Maybe she was trying to think of a way out...
God dammit. Why was he so paranoid? He had never been like that before.

] KoriAshleyHannigan And you might think I'm bulletproof but I'm not You took a swing, I took it hard And down here from the ground, I see who you areKori took her ice cream and murmured her thanks.
She preoccupied herself eating her ice cream. And before Jon even finished speaking (going back to her and her strange behavior of course) he nudged her arm, casually, and playfully- right onto a nice recent bruise.
The surprise and pain of it cause her arm to jump.... and her ice cream to fly from her hand... right onto Jon's lap.
Kori nearly spazzed out then. "Imimimimsosorry!! I didn-didn't mean t-to!!" she'd jumped back, landing on the edge of her chair, and subconsciously clutching her side, but staring at the mess in Jon's lap, with pure embarrassment- or was there perhaps a slight bit of... terror? Showing plainly on her face, as she salvaged the rest of the cone, and then scrambled for napkins, which didn't want to come out of the dispenser that refused to yield to her shaking fingers. And I need you like a heartbeat But you know you got a mean streak Makes me run for cover when you're around

Before Jon realized what was going on, his crotch was soaked and freezing. He nearly tossed his own cup of ice cream, but it managed to land gracefully on the table, mostly.
Kori was jumping up and apologizing, turning heads. So much for staying under the radar.. She was at the napkins, trying to pull them out and failing miserably.
Everything happened so quickly and Jon couldn't help but lose it. He just started cracking up, loud and head tossed back and all. He clutched his stomach, too, but not in bad pain. He just couldn't stop laughing.
Everyone went back to their business, after awhile. Once Jon calmed down he grabbed a few napkins and managed to wipe up some of the mess in his lap. He looked up at Kori, a soft smile on his face.
"Honestly, its fine. Calm down." He tossed the napkins in a nearby trashcan. Of course, he didn't know exactly how he'd explain this to Audrey. He could try to hide the evidence, but fat chance of that. She'd find something and he'd be caught off guard, instead a lie was already forming in his head.
"It was an accident, right? s**t happens." He smirked as he dipped his figner in his own ice cream. "Buuuuut Revenge is a b***h." He swiped his finger down her nose and grinned, sitting back.
Damn, his crotch was freezing. But at least it wasn't on fire. He just felt like he had no manhood right now. Though, he was used to that with Audrey around.

KoriAshleyHannigan And you might think I'm bulletproof but I'm not You took a swing, I took it hard And down here from the ground, I see who you areKori's reaction came from a sort of conditioning, if you know anything about psychology.
It was an automatic thing. The last similar occurrence with Miah, of course, was when she had spilled a drink on his pants and shoes in a movie theater... on accident of course... and well, that had actually resulted in the very same bruise Jon had nudged.
So when she heard the loud noise coming from him, Kori cringed for a split second.... Before she realized he was seriously LAUGHING. When she did realize this, Kori's tensed shoulders sagged momentarily, and she stopped scrambling, just staring at him now in utter disbelief.
It was strange, as he brushed off what happened. It was like... Kori knew this shouldn't seem so strange to her. She knew, somewhere inside her, that normal people didn't blow up and cause bruises over a little accident like this, but after so long, it had BECOME her norm. She came to expect it.
And that's why, even as she felt the relief, she still flinched, eyes closing, when Jon's hand came toward her face.... And wiped ice cream on her nose.
Kori slowly opened her eyes. And laughed. It wasn't a loud laugh, not at all explosive like Jon's. It started out more the silent kind, but to where you could clearly see it on her face, and the slightly open mouth smile turned wide, white teeth glistening... And ya know how, when it's more shake, and less voice? How your body shakes with the laughter even if it's not too loud, but light, and music? Well. That ended up hurting up into a point, and she cut off, hand to her side- in pain, complete with a wince.
Kori moved her hand off, not wanting to look like it hurt as much as it did and wiped the ice cream off her nose.
"I uh- I guess I overreacted a little huh? But I am s-sorry about your pants..." What should she do now?
The longer Kori was around him, the worse things got. For one thing, she kept hurting her sore places, and he was bound to notice, if he hadn't already, that it wasn't normal. She didn't need any more direct questions, the kind he would probably start asking soon. Ya know, going away from simply "are you okay" to, "Are you hurt? What happened?"
And for another thing... Well. This just wasn't right, was it? She shouldn't be hanging around anyone she felt like she had to hide. Why couldn't she have bumped into a girl that didn't know her situation? Ya know, the outgoing type that didn't care, and didn't ask questions, and she could just socialize for a little while and not worry about being caught with a guy? Plus the whole thing about Jon obviously hitting on her. Oh, and the her not really minding part. That was even worse.
"I-I should um, probably be getting back home now... I have.... stuff... to do... and and... you should probably change your pants anyway right?" And I need you like a heartbeat But you know you got a mean streak Makes me run for cover when you're around
I take a step back, let you go I told you I'm not bulletproof Now you know

Jon watched as Kori laughed. It was cute, not loud and crazy. It was soft, just like her. She shook with a small smile, but it ended with a pained expression.
He raised an eyebrow as she held her stomach. Maybe it was just because she laughed too hard, that happened to people all the time. But something nagged in the back of Jon's mind.
Before he could say anything, she was rushing to leave and stumbling over her words. "Of course.." He was going to offer to walk her home, but someone could see him... "I could walk you home?"
Nice.. He just couldn't let it be, could he? He had to be Mr. Nice. That and he was actually worried about her.

KoriAshleyHannigan And you might think I'm bulletproof but I'm not You took a swing, I took it hard And down here from the ground, I see who you areWalk her home? Somehow, Kori had not anticipated this... But she couldn't let him do that. No. It was way too dangerous. It was bad enough that she wasn't that far from where she lived, meaning familiar people might see them. But she had no idea if Miah was back yet or not, and she could NOT risk him seeing Jon walk her home.
It took her a minute to answer, not sure at all what to say. "I... You've been so nice to me all ready, really. It's not necessary. I can walk myself... Ya know, I'll see you around... maybe... I don't know..." she trailed off the last bit, barely audible. Of course she immediately wished nothing after "myself" had even been said.
She wanted to see him again. Duh. That was a given. But whether or not that would be a good, or a very bad thing, was yet to be determined.
"So thank you, very much for the ice cream, even if neither of us got to finish... it was nice. but...." She had to go. And I need you like a heartbeat But you know you got a mean streak Makes me run for cover when you're around

Jon nodded as she stumbled along. "No, its okay, I mean, it wouldn't be a problem... but I understand not wanting to be seen with me." He winked, flashing his smile at her again.
"I hope to see you around.." He wanted to ask for her number, was dying to really. But he knew that'd be too much. Audrey stalked his phone calls and constantly looked through the bill to ensure his loyalty.
He might as well be a dead man walking.
Jon reached out and brushed his hand against Kori's. "I'm down at the antique shop a lot. John, the owner, is a pretty sweet old man. I'm sure you'd love him.. He's always up for a good talk." He bit down on his bottom lip, "But I should probably get going too, I had fun."
Jon glanced at his crotch, "Even if down south is a bit on the cold side still." And it sorta looked like he pissed himself, but hey, it was worth it.

KoriAshleyHannigan And you might think I'm bulletproof but I'm not You took a swing, I took it hard And down here from the ground, I see who you areNot immediately realizing that Jon was joking, Kori felt like she'd said the wrong thing or made the wrong impression. "That's not what I meant! I just..." she trailed off again, sort of getting it, and therefore feeling stupid for it.
Jon was still being as nice as ever though as he spoke to her. He mentioned an antique shop. Kori had never been in it, but she thought she knew which on he was talking about. It was on the same street he'd caught her on.
"Oh... ok, well, I'll see you then... some time..." maybe... hopefully?
Kori didn't know what else to say, so she just went with, "Thank you... again... uhm, bye then- Jon." She nodded with that awkward smile of hers and then moved to leave the shop, going out the door, and forcing herself not to look back.
As soon as she thought she was out of view, her shoulders sagged a little, face dropped. Now all she had left to do was go home. Back to an empty place.... Or worse, Jeremiah might be home. And she'd have to face him and pretend everything was normal, just fine, like usual... except this wasn't quite like usual. They said their goodbyes, and Jon headed home. Back to his and Audrey's place. The place he dreaded unlocking the door to every time he came home. He mindlessly showered and plopped down on the couch in the living room. He fiddled around with his camera a bit, not focusing on much of anything.
His mind flitted around, flashed mental snap shots of the beautiful girl he had spent the afternoon with. Jon couldn't help but smile as he fell asleep, dreaming of what could be in a world where Audrey didn't exist.
Jon woke up with a smile on his face, something he never did with Audrey. In his arms was a pale girl with brown hair, still asleep. He kissed her cheek gently and left their room to fix up their favorite. Blueberry waffles and eggs with bacon. She'd wake up, smelling the coffee already in the pot. Bedhead and all sleepy eyed. She'd kiss his cheek and he'd finish cooking, they'd eat together and spend a sleepy sunday wrapped up in each others arms...
Too bad it was just a dream.

It takes horns to hold up my halo and strength to get trough the fight Now I'm laying my cards on the table praying that everything will be alright I question my own existence Question the meaning of life..
I am crazy, without you. The hardest ones to love Are the ones who need it most..
---------------------------- Miah figured a last minute work out was needed. Not that it would make any huge significance but still. It was the thought.
He lifted for a few hours before showering up and changing into some clothes he kept in his car. Nothing fancy, of course. Just a white wife beater and some jeans with a throw over button down shirt.
Jeremiah checked the time, close enough to five thirty? He shrugged and drove off towards Audrey's work, arriving about two minutes late thanks to a jerk off semi driver on the highway.
He pushed the door open, letting an older looking lady out ahead of him as the bell clanged on the door.

Audrey As expected, no one was going to be in by 5:30, so the others started packing up around 5:25.
They were trailing out of there when the expected client showed up.
Audrey was now kicking it at the front desk, feet up, relaxed. She didn't really expect Jeremiah to show up on time anyway. She hardly noticed the bell since people were still leaving, but when she looked up, there he was.
Audrey smiled lazily up at him. "How prompt of you." She chose when to be a**l about the time, and just about anything else, now wasn't when. Jon usually fell victim to that one, unless she was in a really good mood.

KoriAshleyHannigan And you might think I'm bulletproof but I'm not You took a swing, I took it hard And down here from the ground, I see who you areIf only to prolong the inevitable, Kori stopped by the little market that was the last bit of shops before you got to the residency area. She didn't get much, just a six pack for Miah- which might put him in a good mood with her for a little while- and some chocolate.
Other than that, she looked around for awhile and then finally checked out and headed home.
Too her surprise, it was indeed empty when she walked through the front door. Not that there was any real reason for her to expect Jeremiah to be home right now or anything, but she had just felt like he would. She expected him to be sitting on the couch, with that scowl of his, immediately asking where she was all suspicious like. And then she would stutter and he'd accuse her of something, and and... Well, it would only get worse from there.
Well, those were the type of scenarios going through her head. Guilty conscience much?
Instead, she collapsed onto the bed. She lay there for at least an hour before getting up to go into the bathroom and check out her healing progress. It was a dismal process. And I need you like a heartbeat But you know you got a mean streak Makes me run for cover when you're around
