"We need to finish the mission," Victor said, voice growing urgent. "I, for one, don't want to return with a failure on our record. You all know what they'll do to us, right? And this is our proving mission; we have to show them that they didn't make a mistake with us."

In the darkness, Victor le Treu was in his element - literally. He moved about with perfect clarity, completely unhindered by the murky black. He probed the edges of the chamber with his magic, searching for any sign of weakness. He could still feel the network of tunnels around them, waiting to be opened.

"Can someone do high-damage demolitions for us? I can direct us back into the main tunnel network if someone starts taking down the walls...here." He marked an area of rock with his mana, signaling that it was the closest to the tunnels.

Anolani stared. She tried keeping the light on as long as she could, but that didn't work out since NO ONE DID ANYTHING. To say that she was pissed was putting it lightly. And STILL no one did anything. "You all owe me a drink after this s**t is over with."

She pulled out a two bottles and mixed the liquid quickly. Suddenly there was a stream of fluorescent light. The stream separated into several spheres and lit the area that Victor pointed. "See now, why can't you just teleport us through your shadows? Wouldn't that be simpler?" Instead, she waited for someone to contribute and blow up the wall...if no one did it soon, she'd just do it herself and kill the Queen herself (and then throttle the group).

"The same reason I can't teleport straight to the Queen and end her myself," Victor shot back, annoyance spiking. "There are currents of power in this s**t, and I can't force my way through all of them."

He turned back to the wall after a thought occurred to him. With a wave of his hand he again examined the area around them, much closer this time. "Actually..." he mused. "I think I can get us through this much. If you guys are willing to cover me for a few minutes while I recover afterward, I should have enough mana at the moment to bring us through to the main tunnel network. Does that sound good?"

"Wasteful," Johnstone countered. "Look, sorry, here we go," he added, gathering mana for a proper Vanilla-magic detonation. Right there, hmm? And if that wasn't good enough, a fierce application of BULL would probably do the job. If not... there were other demons at his beck and call. He hadn't called upon any of them recently, but they were still probably willing to deal, and there had to be some dirt-diggers he could call upon.

"We have some options," he said. "I can try to brute-force, or I could try and see if I have a summon I could drag here. Something digger-ish. I'm sure there's something... I don't have a list with me or anything, but I could just try some names," he offered. Losing track of your demons was kind of a stupid thing to do, but he had settled into THE BULL so thoroughly after the rest had been deemed dissatisfactory. Whatever, they liked to make fun of him anyway. No problem. Things were the way they were.

"Just blast it down," Victor said, rapidly growing tired of all their talking and arguing. They needed to start moving or they'd just be a liability in the future.

"In that case, fire in the hole!" Johnstone declared, focusing mana into the detonation and setting it off. He measured his mana expenditure, attempting to ensure it was enough and a little more to blast it open, but not an excessive use of mana. Mana, after all, was a precious resource down here.

Caught in the currents of power, Johnstone called upon more than he'd intended to. The hole left by the blast pushed an enormous quantity of dirt out the end of the tunnel, flooding it into a cross-passage and crushing the Hivelings within. The force, after shoving the intervening dirt down that path, continued to tunnel downward through the bedrock, opening into another nearby chamber - not a direct route to the queen but certainly a start.

"Well, comrades, into the breach!" Victor said gleefully, darting into the new passage. His magical senses were extended in every direction and his shadow spikes struck down any enemy that came within range of his web.

Scanning through the network leading to the Queen, Victor began to lead them in the right direction until something happened.

Anolani happily followed after and kept the tunnel well lit with her fluorescent fluid. If anyone needed extra light, all they needed was to ask. It was doubly helpful for fighting enemies since they wouldn't be able to hide from her (and once her water touched the enemies, it left a lightly fluorescent mark on them). Finally things were moving!

"Whoops," Johnstone murmured under his breath, examining his handiwork. That was... a bit more... flashy than he'd been going for. At least the Hivelings weren't so terribly dangerous. Ignoring the terrible tense change his overwrought explosions, Johnstone moved through the breach, transferring between elemental-powered hops and a light jog for rapid movement. "We should do a quick head-count so we know exactly what kind of resources we have before we move on," Johnstone suggested. In an ordinary military, or so the history books said, this would be done to determine whether or not to advance. With the Cabal, it was almost pointless, but they might as well know what their resources were before they started really delving into the core of this hive.

"Knives and alcohol," Morgan replied cheerily after slapping Bayer for not acknowledging that "s" and "d" are next to each other on the keyboard, thus making accidental tense changes incredibly easy to have happen.

"Teleporting and precision strikes," Victor said breathlessly.

After they all listed their abilities and decided that proceeding on was advisable, they began to hike through the tunnels. They didn't encounter heavy resistance that caused them much trouble, though there were several scuffles with bugs in the darkness.

Eventually, they made their way towards the bottom center of the nest, where Victor informed them laid the Queen's nest. Soon they would be close enough to proceed inside.

"Any plans on how to attack?" Jace asked as they reached the edge of the chamber. "We can enter at any angle, or..."

Morgan picked at his fingernails with a knife.

Quite abruptly, the tunnel behind them filled with a wave of Warriors dropping in from a tunnel the Cabal force had cut through; rows of two in columns that extended deep into the blackness advanced, and a sudden press of magic around them began, but the source and reason for that remained indeterminate.

"Uhhh..."

Victor was having a hard time even facing the wave of enemy warriors, as their magical presence was like a spotlight down here in the dark tunnels. Turning his face away, his gaze fell on the chamber ahead, their objective.

"I don't know about you guys," he said, jogging towards it, "but the only way to get out of here is to finish our mission, and if we take out the Queen we should be okay, right?"

"Agreed, we don't need to fight the warriors," Johnstone said. "Just need to outpace them enough to get to the Queen. I suspect killing her will incite some sort of swarm mechanism, so one or more of us should save enough mana to punch a hole straight up to the surface and run for it." Johnstone, obviously, meant himself, since he presumably was the most qualified for digging through things.

In the meanwhile, he set down and began jogging, saving all the mana he could. He'd need it shortly.
