Well I think I found another case where wookieepedia is wrong. Lovely. It says that an Im 418 can carry 2 squadrons of starfighters.
Yeah, right. Sorry, but I remember my Rogue Squadron novels. They carry 1. I just reread the article on the Victory-II class on wookieepedia and it specifically states they were used in sector patrols. Considering their use in some of the X-wing/TIE Fighter campaigns and the novels I'm inclined to agree. So I'll go with the classic Victory II + Im 418 combo. In the event the Victory II is lost (Besides facing a court martial) I'll switch to a four ship formation composed of smaller frigates (Nebulon Bs and that sort).
Victory II-class Star Destroyer
Iron Curtain-110th Alpha-class XG-1 Star Wing
Mynock Squadron
-892nd TIE Interceptor
Vapor Squadron
Im 418 Interdictor-class Star Frigate
Stasis-894th TIE Interceptor
Rapier Squadron
The Victory-II is great for this. I remember in a couple missions flying against this combo and realizing the damn Victory-II is flying between the incoming fighters and the interdictor. The only weakpoint is the relatively slow speed of the ships (Exacerbated by operating within the Interdictor's gravity well) so I'll be heavily reliant on those XG-1s to catch anyone I yank into real space.
The Victory-II is actually up to par, speedwise, thanks to its new engines
But as a suggestion, if you want another small ship, a
Gladiator-class Destroyer. It's 500 meters long, prong-bowed, with a forward hangar. It only vaguely looks like a Destroyer, and is really more of a frigate/carrier.
Plus, it was designed as an escort for Victories, so it fits nicely
