All the Weyrs of Pern Captain

From across the sands a smallish egg began to rock, taking its time, pieces breaking off gradually until with a final large push, a leopard-spotted blue dragonet broke free and creeled as he slid, slick with egg-fluid, to the sands. Struggling to his feet, the mellow little dragonet started to pick his way across the sands towards the boys and glanced over a few faces before he spotted Rayale and, with an excited miniature rumble, picked up his pace and scrambled towards him.
R'ael, it's kinda hot out here. Can't we go somewhere cooler, where there's something to eat?? Jaereth's hungry~ the blue pleaded with his chosen candidate, bumping into his legs and flapping his drying wings, eyes whirling happily up at him.

And as he Impressed, the Picasso egg becan to twitch...

Such spots! Jiriar found himself marveling at the quiet beast, a grin breaking out across his face at the sound that stirred deep in its throat. Found its bonded, had he? He twisted his head to better watch as the Impression was made, chuckling under his breath at the obviously sign of affection, the way those strange eyes seemed to... well, spin. If the boy was looking, Jiriar would grin widely at him in congratulations--then turned towards the rocking egg, distracted by the movement. Another one...

While Okassis mustered up an easy-going grin for his friend, flashing S'van a quick thumbs-up in his usual careless manner, there was a sudden cracking. He swerved his attention around expectantly as another blue hatched - and, before Okassis could even get his hopes up, locked onto its bonded and scurried over. He didn't recognize the boy that the blue had sought out, but got a glimpse of him all the same. Fortunately, he was still wearing the smile he'd flashed to S'van, and shared it briefly with the lucky new Weyrlin.
Glancing back out toward the Hatching Grounds, Okassis shifted his weight from one foot to another, starting to become more aware of the heat of the sands under his feet and the sweat trickling over his face. Hatching wasn't over yet, he urged himself optimistically - he just had to hang in there a little while more, it would all be worth it, if....

The Nose let her eyes wander around the Sands briefly, stopping when she spotted Okassis. Was he... staring at Sovann? Nandeli tilted ever so slightly to the left to get a better look at him, following his gaze to where the newly Impressed brownrider stood with his dragon. Yup, he was definitely looking that way! And judging by the look on his face he was clearly thinking about something sad. Their imminent parting perhaps? Nandeli clasped her hands together. Oh what a sad, sad story! Two would-be lovers, torn apart by the Impression of one and not the other. She would have to make sure to comfort them both once the hatching was over.
She was forced to look away from the two when the crowd cheered, signaling another Impression. A blue! And to Rayale too! Nan remembered the nice boy from their little gossip session at lunch time. She made sure to cheer for him with the rest of their audience. Atta boy Rayale!

Anont smiled brighter when the blue Impressed, unable to keep from being happy. He was nervous, yes- who wasn't? but at least the dragonet hadn't gone between, or any such terrible fate. Besides, any rider would be a good rider- dragons didn't pick just anyone! So, really, there wasn't anything to be terribly disappointed over. At least, that's what he'd keep telling himself to make the wait hurt a little less.
And then, the final egg started shaking. Snapped from his inner monologue to watch with awe, Anont couldn't help but hope this might be his dragon. Maybe, just maybe, he'd Impress, and train with Erisi. The two might ride together, after all! Taking one last moment to look around for the other, and realizing he was unable to find his friend, Anont returned his focus to the egg.
Hope. He just had to keep hoping. Negativity never got you anywhere, and hey- at least he was on the Sands this time!

A grin split S'van's face once again as soon as he saw who had Impressed. Awesome! His fisherman friend Rayale! It was hard to be sad when he could at least claim that one of his friends had also Impressed. Still, he did hope that Okassis would Impress soon. Shifting anxiously, he flashed the newly Impressed pair a grin, and waved, cupping his hands together in the next moment to form a funnel. "I knew you could do it, Rayale!" Then, just as soon as he finished speaking, he noticed that the final egg on the sands was shaking. One more chance, one more chance!

Rayale all but dropped to his knees to throw his arms carefully around the neck of the relaxed blue. He couldn't think of what to say at first, trying to beleive that it was even happening, let alone that some of the enthused noise of the croud was for him. "Yes, yes we can." He promised, turning back to offer a glowing grin at the others, including S'van. "You were right!" He called back over to S'van. "I didn't think I'd ever meet you." He added quietly to Jaereth. Well of course.Jaereth added, patiently. I was worth waiting for. "Of course!"

Blues blues, everywhere! It seemed quite the popular color this hatching, so all would note. A bit unusual, but nice all the same. Despite so many they still held no candle to the number of green dragons in the world. For some that was a disappointment, perhaps.
Faranie began grumbling under her breath as one of the final eggs shook. A green, please? She couldn't have a blue or anything, so it would only have pleased her to see green dragon spill out of that shell. She took a few steps forward, willing it to hatch, her nerves rising and making her more like her usual angry self. "C'mon you...get out!"
Gar meanwhile was almost amused with how easy it was to get through this last hatching. The feelings of disappointment were nothing new, and the knowledge that after these one or two last eggs he would never have to be disappointed again soothed the ache in his soul. He'd settle for perfecting his craft. Craftmasters were well liked and respected...it was nothing to be ashamed of to not be chosen by a dragon.

Perhaps whatever powers that governed Pern decided to smile on, or even chuckle at Faranie's silent demand, and the Piccasso-Triggerfish egg cracked open, and split apart, spilling an green of dramatic paterning onto the sand. Not as bright in shades as her sister, the Mandarin, she, however, is considerably less the shrinking violet, and steps a few wobbling steps forward on her newly found legs before shaking herself vigorously and scanning the sands. Dazzled and amazed by the sands, there's never the less a curious mixture of playfulness and determination in her behavior as she scans the sands for her partner, though sadly, Faranie's demands to the powers behind the fortunes of eggs bless her with only a bemused look. If dragons winked, this one does, as though to say "not this time!"

A green. Okassis's shoulders dropped, relaxing at last. It was a green.
If there was ever a game over sign, this was it. Greens were for girls, despite whatever he'd teased S'van about; and so far as he could tell, there were no more eggs.
That was it, then. Hatching was gone. And he hadn't Impressed.
He would... need a bit of time to think about this one.

Oh! So the egg had split, and a beautiful green spilled forth onto the sand. The little beast shook herself, almost seeming amused as her eyes swept across the sands. Curious creature. Jiriar caught the stare the dragon gave to the girl, almost snorting out loud though managed to swipe at his nose with a hand to stop himself in time. Another one bursting with personality! ...So they had to be smarter than the kind of animals he was used to working with. It was somehow strange to think about. "All right, pet, make your move." The man mused, folding his arms slowly behind his head though to stretch. He was starting to get tired. After this, maybe he could finally sit down...

And there was the last egg!
Nandeli's heart skipped a beat when she saw it was a green. What a dragon to end! It could go in favour of either gender, which made it doubly exciting! Her eyes darted back to Okassis, and her eyebrows knitted in concern when she saw his expression. He probably didn't think he had a chance at the green. Poor guy. She'd have to make sure to visit him after the Hatching was over!
Making a mental note, she turned her attention back to the spirited little green that had just arrived. Whoever got this one looked like they were going to have their hands full!

A blue? Where on earth had that little guy come from? The egg had been so small and half buried in the sands that he had hardly noticed still he sent a small internal cheer out to the blue for defying expectations and the followed its confident path across the hot sand to one of the older boys. At least he was happy for him. The older candidates had less chance after all, could stand only so many times before they were to old to impress a dragon, he still hand a fair few years he would be eligible but still…how many time could he hold his breath and stop his heart when one of the small dragonets spilled out from the broken eggs? Not even his friend Con and Vesyes had impressed this time around it seemed. But as he looked around at the girls and the boys he still saw hope in the waiting faces, although some had started to drift away from the sands. Had given up on their chances this time some still threw all those wishes at that last egg.
Most bets on this one had been placed on a green emerging and as the egg rocks, split and cracked they were proved right, both the girls and the boys had a chance at this fine creature although so far the dragons who already held such character in the cheeky expression was showing no preference in one or the other. Unlike some of the other boys he held no high ideas about greens not being good enough or only for girls. Raith was a green and to him he was the most perfect dragons, the first dragon he had ever laid eyes on and she wore her green hide with pride. He could see the girl was filled with as much personality as her brothers and sisters and in one last ditch effort he took a hesitant step towards her. Although he still remained behind several other candidates it was better than his back row observation point. A last hope.

Oh such a lovely green to end the hatching. Nelioa's eyes watched the little one as she pushed through the shell and made her grand enterance into the world. So many of them where left and their hopes rested on this green, at least for this hatching. Whom would she choose to be her companion through life.
She looked back over to the weyrlings already feeding their hungry charges. Who would be the last to join their ranks today?

Despite his usual guise Tideal smiled at the newest pair. With the blue almost immediately impressed by a now overjoyed new rider Tideal's attention drifted quickly to the Picasso egg where it wobbled on the sand. It was his last chance for a while and he couldn't help but gasp slightly. He bit his tounge, almost impatient for the last egg to make itself known on the sands. It was both a desperate and hopeful feeling, but he was still repaired to wait it out. It felt like a attacker was grappling for his throat.
Still fidgeting, Tideal reached up and touched his throat. Stretching and making sure his neck was still there at the same time.
