"Earth put out a little shot to keep people from contracting most illnesses. It ain't exactly a sign of goodwill if half of your populace is out around the stars spreading whatever voodoo s**t your planet has to offer, and them doing it right back. So, to stop the spread of inter-planetary illness, Earth's government ordered this into effect, and has been trying to spread it out around the farther colonies and systems. But, syndicates like the Kore and other mafias and s**t raid the ships, and sell the drug for outrageous prices and make a killing off of it. As a result, only a few systems are full immune." walked over to Hattie, kissing her gently, "I ain't about to die."

Pen shook her head. "Its designed as a weapon, Eric. Do you honestly think the Kore would have let the immunity drug get in their way? You're forgetting that the front of the Kore was the Medkor medical research company. They weren't raiding the earth ships in a mafia pattern. A good part of our funding came from people getting sick. It was to stop the spread of the drug, and to research it so that we could create diseases that could get around it...which we could then cure, for a price of course. When the Kore was done with a system, earth's medical research was often claimed as primitive and ineffective, simply because we did not like having competitors."

Pen gave him a stubborn look as she spoke. "Pen, I put myself at risk of getting hurt daily. This isn't anything new to me. The least I can do is get you there and out myself. I owe you and Jarred at least that much. You know you can't stop me or change my mind, Pen, so just save us all the frustration and just let me do it."

Pen momentarily thought about shooting him in the leg and disabling him for the time being. But after a moment acknowledged that probably wouldn't stop him either. She let out a soft sigh. "Fine."

He nodded.
"Let's get going, then." He said, waling to Hattie, giving her a big hug and a kiss.

Pen glanced at Hattie and Eric, a sad look on her face, but she said nothing, just leaned against the ship wall and waited.

Hattie slowly pulled away from the kiss. She moved her head and leaned in close to his ear so no one else could hear her. "You'd better come back to me, Eric..." Her heart beat against her chest, her voice tight with tears.
After she gave his cheek a kiss, she moved to hug Pendari. "I'm sorry." She whispered.

Pen gave Hattie's back a soft pat, she was never really sure what to do with hugs. "It's fine." She said softly, "nothing we can do about it."

He waited for them to get done, before he escorted Pen down to the Star's Light's hatch, leading down to a shieled area outside the ship.

Piper pushed past Hattie to follow Eric and Pendari. "Did you think I wouldn't be coming along?" She chuckled. "Absinthe will keep an eye on your girlie. No doubts that she'd try to come after you, shorty."
With Eric and Pendari gone, Hattie settled quietly down in a chair on the Bridge. Halise sat next to her and took her hand. "I'm sure he'll come back to you, Hattie." Hattie said nothing as her hand closed around the recorder for Jarred.
