Elnara blushed and lay her head against his chest.
"You're right," she admitted. "I guess ... it's just ... all my life I've been hoping for this day to come ... but at the same time, all my life, I've feared it ... when I was traveling alone, I thought that it would never happen, that it could never happen ..."
She hesitated a moment. "And now that it has ... I think I'm discovering ... that ... aside from wanting to have a child ... I've never thought of anything beyond that. I mean ... what it all means, what it entails ..."

"The idea that you'll actually have a little baby to look after, someone we'll be teaching to talk, to walk... to do all the little things that we've never taught before," Lore supplied, "And much more."
He had to admit it sounded like a very large responsbility, which was why it was so scary.
"We'll work through it... just one step at a time... besides it probably threw both of us through a loop since we didn't even suspect yet until it was suggested."

"I haven't been around anyone who was pregnant since ... Mother was pregnant with Mikhail," Elnara admitted, taking Lore's hand and heading towards the door so that they could take their walk. "I mean, sure we saw Haradhel when she was pregnant with Arwen, but ... only for a short while. That doesn't really count. We've missed every other pregnancy here, despite the fact that there have been so many of them."
She led him outside and closed the door behind them. "Along the river?" she suggested, meaning a direction for their walk while they continued their discussion.

"Well... it's not like I've been around pregnant women often... I just see them in passing," Lore replied, "Yes, I've read a lot and studied a lot, but otherwise...."
So they were both in the same boat, he figured as he nodded to her question and turned to the direction of the river.
"And.. I'm sure it'll be fine even if neither of us have been around those who have given birth a lot.... there are people who probably have only seen one or two births all the way through, if any."

Elnara smiled. "The children, obviously," she murmured, "or Kara and Donovan, for that matter ... Actually, for all Donovan's medical training, I'm not sure if he's seen a pregnancy through before."
Now that was an interesting question. Donovan, who had traveled to so many places, who had done so many things, who had had such an extensive education ... would he have seen a pregnancy through?
"But all the reading in any world, in any number of worlds put together, can't prepare anyone for the process of going through a pregnancy," she added. "Nothing is like books tell ... and it's different for everyone ..."

"Which is why...." Lore murmured letting go of her hand and wrapping his arm around her shoulder pulling her close, "you are going to have to trust yourself on this, because it is different for everyone you are probably just as well prepared for this as any first time mother."
He kissed her on the temple, he was sure she was going to be just fine.
"And..." he added mischieviously, "If you really want to know about Donovan I could ask his cousin Dai."
Dai was one of the few actual doctors in the clan, though he had a feeling that Donovan was the sort to make excuse not to be at the birthing process.

Elnara laughed at his final comment and slipped her arms around him, hugging him tightly.
"It's quite all right," she giggled, "I don't think it really matters whether Donovan has or not. It was just a question of curiosity."
She paused. "Though just on point of coincidence ... I have a great-grandfather named Dai. At least, I think I do ... I don't know if he's still alive or not ..."

"Interesting..." Lore murmured.
He hadn't known that before...
"What is he like?"
Or was like....

"I don't know," Elnara admitted. "I don't really remember him ... barely remember his name ... He was a guard of the Old City, he survived the war ... I just don't know how long, or if he's even still alive. He was never at the castle, so ..."
She paused for a moment, then added, "But he wasn't part of the royal family, either, he's my grandfather's father."

Interesting, Lore thought to himself, he had no idea that there was even more family. Then again when he really thought about it, the thought shouldn't have suprrised him.
"I see...." Lore mused softly before smiling a bit at Elnara, "So are you feeling a bit better about the whole idea? I know it's not the same as feeling ready but..."

Elnara smiled up at Lore and blushed again slightly. She giggled and stopped walking, turning to face him head on, and slipped her arms around his waist, tugging him close and hugging him loosely.
"Much," she told him happily. "I still don't know if I'm ready, or if I even will be when the time comes, but ... I'm so excited for this ... for us ..."
She reached up and brushed aside a stray hair that had wandered into his face, then cupped his cheek with her hand. "You ... you've made me the happiest woman in any land," she told him warmly, brushing her thumb gently across his lips. "I could never show you how much I love you."
Then she went up on her tiptoes and put her hand behind his head, pulling him closer to her so that she could kiss him warmly on the lips.

Lore kissed back, and he thought that maybe he heard himself sigh happily. This was just... very blissful.
"And this is where I would try not to sound too overly full of sweetness while expressing how loved I already feel," Lore laughed softly.

When they returned home from their walk, Elnara was feeling tired - perhaps from her pregnancy, but she suspected it was more from her lack of sleeping lately, as well as the excitement of the morning - and so she excused herself and took a nap before she knew they would have to leave for their dinner with Elrohir and his family. When she woke up again, she was feeling much better, wide awake, full of energy, and with a healthy appetite. She spent a few minute getting ready to leave, making sure she looked presentable again and making sure that she would be warm enough on their walk back home, and at long last she left with Lore, hand in hand, for the ranch.
It was a beautiful walk there, but when they arrived, the sun was already beginning to lower in the sky.
"It's going to be dark when we head back home," she commented to Lore as they reached the house.

Lore nodded at this, it was probably the one reason why they didn't come over for dinner that often.
"At least it's not too cold quite yet, so the walk back should be okay," Lore murmured.

"Well, I did bring my cloak, just in case," Elnara smiled, "but you're right. In a few weeks though it will be cold ... at least, cold enough that we'll have to wear cloaks during the day outside. Light ones, anyways."
She reached for the door handle and opened the door, leading the two of them inside.
"Hello!" she called out once they were inside. "We're here!"
