Skye smiled and folded her hands in her lap, feeling slightly shy and hesitant about the idea that had been growing in her mind.
"Do you ... like to swim?" she asked him softly, looking up at him anxiously. She knew not everyone knew how, or necessarily liked to, and she had a suspicion that like her, he might not have brought a bathing suit. Still ...

A wave of inner fear washed over Syrus, causing him to go pale for just a moment. He never liked water. He could never really get the whole swimming thing down right.
"I..uh...I...don't know how to swim..." he said finally. Great. Just great...
"Maybe....you could...I dunno...teach me?"
Wait...what? Where'd THAT come from?

Skye saw the paleness of Syrus's face, and she blinked worriedly for a moment. He looked ... afraid ... she thought.
But then he said that he couldn't swim ... perhaps it was just embarrassment?
She smiled warmly at him and rose to her feet, holding out one hand to him to help him to his feet as well.
"I would love to," she said softly, her eyes shining brightly as she looked at him. "We can go to place where the water is not deep, okay? That way it is safe ... for both of us."

Syrus gave her his hand as he started to get up, laughing a little bit.
"Shallow is good," he said, smiling, but on the inside he was scared like heck.

Skye giggled a bit and squeezed his hand reassuringly, then slipped her fingers between his and began to lead the way towards the beach. Perhaps at this early hour there would be no one else there ... that would be nice, to have the beach to themselves.
"It is the best way to learn," she agreed, watching him as they walked so that she could see if he spoke. "I think just up to our waist is good ... maybe my waist, you are taller than I am."
Not by much, perhaps, but taller.

Syrus nodded, holding onto Skye's hand, almost like if it was the last time he'd ever get to do it.
"Best...way...learn..." he repeated.

Skye felt how tightly Syrus was holding her hand, and though she didn't mind it, she frowned softly. Something wasn't right ... and though of course she couldn't hear it, she could sense it.
"Syrus," she said softly, stopping and putting one hand on his chest to stop him as well, "is something wrong?"
She looked up at him anxiously, wondering if something had happened that she didn't know about.

Syrus snapped out of his fear induced state of minds, shaking his head violently.
"I'm fine...I'll be fine...I'm good," he said, though it was more to himself to calm him down then it was to her.

Skye nodded faintly, though she wasn't entirely sure she believed him. Something was shaking him up, and she was worried about him.
"If you say so," she murmured, squeezing his hand and continuing on again.

Syrus said nothing, just smiled and nodded as they began again. It was going to be fine afterall. Water wasn't that bad. Just like taking a bath.
Though he did not let the fact that he normally took showers pass through his head right at that moment, which was a good thing.

Skye said nothing for the remainder of their walk to the beach, though she glanced continually at Syrus - not only to see if he said anything to her, but also just to keep an eye on him, and see if she could find out just what it was that was making him so obviously nervous.
Maybe it was the fact that he didn't know how to swim - though that was nothing to be embarrassed about; after all, it wasn't his fault no one had taught him before, was it?
"Here we are," she announced suddenly as the grass changed to sparkling white sand and the smell of the clear air met them. The water was smooth as glass, and the weather, though it was still early morning, was beautiful.

Syrus took in a deep breath. This was the first time he had ever been to the beach before. He had seen it in pictures, but it was much nicer to see in person. Even the water didn't look as frightning as he imagined. All the pictures he had seen of the ocean there were massive waves with people riding oddly shaped wood. This was nice however.
"Nice" he said with a smile, oddly much calmer now.

Skye smiled brightly, seeing that Syrus was calm now. It made her feel a lot better, and calmed her own fears about taking him there.
"And if we do not swim," she said softly, "we can play in the sand ... make sandcastles ... tunnels ... mountains ..."
It was her own first time at the beach as well, but she had heard many stories about her siblings and what they had done there.

Syrus nodded at all the suggestions with a smile, just taking in another deep breath, enjoying the smell of the beach air. It was Skye's call what they did first, so he just made the most of waiting by soaking up the view.

Skye watched Syrus for a moment, then giggled softly.
"What would you like to do?" she asked him, tugging playfully on his hand. "There is lots to do, and we have lots of time!"
She was so excited to do everything with him that she couldn't choose where to start. It didn't matter to her ... she just wanted to be spending time with Syrus.
