"Wait." As Bella dismissed herself, Maxwell felt almost ashamed of himself. But his eyes widened as she tripped on her dress, and he found himself leaping up to check on her. He knelt down beside her, just in time to hear her comment. "Oh come on now princess, you are not pathetic."

Lady Maybelline merely smiled at the servant. She glanced up at Lord Taite, and giggled as she saw the light pink that had flushed his cheeks. Once the servant had left, the Lady stood on tip-toe and gently kissed Lord Taite's cheek. "You are quite attractive when you blush Taite. The color suits you," she smiled playfully. "And I would love to sit by you at lunch," she added, taking his arm.

Bella sat up in her position when she fell, she heard what the prince said to her. Her sad expression brightened a bit into curiosity. "R-really? I mean...I am so clumsy...and I'm not talented like other princesses around here...and my stepmother tells me I am pathetic..." She explained in a soft voice, her amethyst eyes filled with emotions at she looked to Maxwell.

"Then...how do you know I am not pathetic...?" She asked. She was curious to why he say that when he don't know her. Is it because of first impressions? Bella do not know, all she know is that he is a kind prince, like any kind prince.

"And you listen to her? My mother stopped saying those kind of things long ago. Just because you are not talented like the other princesses does not mean you are not talented at all." Maxwell smiled at Bella. He stood up and offered one slender hand to the princess. "I think princess, that we all know we're not pathetic, useless, or clumsy. But it is the only way to keep ourselves from believing we are perfect." His father had said those words to Maxwell many times. He had always said that perfection was a flaw itself, and something that would always cloud a person's heart if he or she believed that they were perfect.

"Really?...I guess you are right..." She said softly, taking his hand to stand up. She smiled gently at his kindness as she felt a little better than before. "You put it in such good words...like from a quote or something, very poetic..." She complimented.

Bella brushed off any grass or dirt that was on her gown. 'Remind to self...choose a gown just a bit shorter so I would not trip...'
She thought.

"Well...I was not treated so much as a princess...more like a maid...I think my father is hypnotized by my stepmother, I think she has committed witch craft...but I have no evidence and she sends me here" Bella explained. "I think there is one thing that I am talented in...I can play the harp pretty well, or that is what others say..." She pondered at that.

"What book were you just reading about?" She asked as she saw him holding a book before.

"My dad used to tell me that all the time." Maxwell smiled, taking a step back from Bella. It wasn't meant to be impolite, but the prince didn't feel comfortable standing that close to her. He listened to her explain her mother, and he was suddenly glad his mother actually appreciated him. he realized as she mentioned the book, that he had dropped it. "It's some book on my family's blood line that my mum insisted I read," stated Maxwell in obvious disgust as he picked up the medium-sized book.

Bella smiled at the fact that Maxwell had a very wise and noble father, unlike herself, her father is caring, but follows her stepmother's orders. She then was confused at how he did not like the book and its subject.

"Your family's bloodline?...why would you not like a book about your history?" She said. Bella, in fact, loved to read books, no matter what and she also liked history as well, one of her favorites. "I think that finding out one's family's history is a good thing, you get to know where you come from and what your ancestors accomplished..." She said.

"So...what did you find out so far about your family?" She asked with a warm smile.

((Gah!!! He is so hard to respond to, lol! It takes me forever to think of things to say to him!!! smile ))

Cassi managed to catch his eyes when he glanced at her and offered up a small smile, though she wasn't quite sure where that smile had come from. To say the least, this was certainly a hard person to talk to but it was also proving a challenge that she greatly enjoyed. Although she hadn't exactly said anything about the slight shift in his personality from a few minutes ago, she had noticed but didn't deem it something to comment on. Cassi figured that if he had wanted attention drawn to the matter than he would have said something about it.

Glancing back down at the couple, Cassi let her thoughts drift to her own opinions on romance. Though she had never really experienced herself, Chikara was loath to think that it was a bad thing. Just because she didn't exactly know what it was to an extent, didn't mean that she did not want to experience it.

Cannis watched silently as Josephine broke away from him and bent down to pick a blue flower. He liked watching her like this, when she seemed to close to him and open instead of the normal cold atmosphere that she gave off around the others. Vaguely he wondered if this was going to be the only time he'd get to see her like this but he pushed that thought away, not like it at all. "The color suits you," he said, motioning to the flower.

[[Aah! I'm sorry, I realize he's a terribly difficult person to interact with. XD; ]]

The two sat in silence for a few moments, and for the first time in a while Damien felt a bit awkward. He sat back with a kind of forced ease, recovering his perpetual mask of indifference.

Awkwardness was a strange thing. It made him very consciously aware of Cassi's presence, so that it seemed an aura or something was radiating from her. He felt the uncomfortable urge to move away, out of the range of the pressing of her presence, but stayed where he was.

He had almost missed the flicker of movement on the other side. For anybody else, this might not have said much, but Damien had always been very observant, and to be oblivious to anything in his environment meant that he had to snap out of whatever funk he was in and return to normal.

His steely grey eyes washed over the scene, identifying the scurrying, mouse-like figures as servants. A couple of large cloth squares, patterned with plaid, were spread over the lush lawn. As he looked closer, he could see little picnic baskets being brought in and out.

A picnic? That was unexpected. Damien would have thought that the Academy was too prim for picnics. What had happened to the stiff, formal dining room? It couldn't be that the authorities, in all their noble fanciness, were less stuffy than he thought. He refused to believe that. It was basically the only thing that kept his misery reasonable, though barely so.

"It looks like a picnic," he said, breaking the silence. He looked back at Cassi over his shoulder, noticing suddenly that there was more colour in her eyes than he had originally thought. Was it purple? Maybe it was simply the unconcealed sun that brought it out. No matter, he thought to himself, rather irritated. It's not like eye colour means anything. "Strange, I thought this place was much too proper for 'horsing around'. Isn't that behaviour more suitable for commons?" His distaste, not for the "commons" but for nobility, was clear in his sarcasm. "Though maybe the word they use is frolicking. Or prancing. Or dancing." The corner of his mouth jerked up. "Or maybe even capering. Capering? Are we capering outdoors instead?" he rambled on, falling back onto the roof and pushing the dark hair away from his face.

"Just a couple burnt villages and a lot of executioning." Maxwell smiled, tucking the book under his arm. The boy had never liked to look back. Especially at his family's past. "History isn't my thing. I prefer to look ahead, not back," he finally said.

"It reminds me of you," admitted Josephine, her face turning a light shade of pink. She reached out and grabbed his hand, pulling Lord Canis after her. Scarlet hair fell all around her as the Lady pulled the Lord with her through the graden.

Cassi didn't really notice as he stared at her, most of her interest going to that of the scene below. And though she was indeed surprised that the Academy was going to let them have a picnic, she felt a rising excitment inside her; she'd never been to a picnic before.

Listening to Damiens words, she couldn't help but to smile and let out a small giggle at his ramblingins, as random as they were. Despite the randomness though, she thought they quite clearly defined his idea of what he thought this place would be like. "Playing," she added, unable to keep the word inside. "I think playing quite suits it as well."

Watching him, she was begining to think that maybe he hadn't wanted to come here in the first place, as if maybe he was forced to come here. That idea, though it might be terrible to him, seemed very odd to her. At first Cassi hadn't wanted to come, she hadn't wanted to be anywhere near the place. But now, having this small amount of freedom, more so than she had ever been given at home, Cassi felt, well, free. At least a little bit.

Allowing a small smile to come at that thought, Cassi turned excitedly to face him. "You don't quite sound like you want to...but do you think...do you think you'd like to go to the picnic? I mean...we don't have to...but...well, I think it could be interesting. Plus, we might get a chance to meet a few of the others." A blush rose onto her cheeks as she finished speaking; as to whether is was her question to him or how much she stumbled over the question was debatable.

Another blush rose onto his cheeks when the Lady grabbed his hand and pulled him forward and he wasn't at all sure upon how to react. He was flattered that at what she had said and at the same time...happy that she was thinking of him, even though he was standing right next to her. "Thank-you," he said quietly, allowing another small smile to drift its way onto his face. Letting her pull him along, he wandered what other things she would say.

Damien gave the girl an amused glance, one eyebrow raised and the corner of his mouth twitching upward. "Not want to go? And miss the only chance I might have of playing like a commoner? I think not."

Making fun of the school without having to hide it had put him in an infinitely better mood - finally finding a nice sanctuary in the seemingly overpopulated castle helped too. He was even starting to talk, though it was still the usual sarcasm.

"Come, milady, let's to the gardens and caper. I'm certain the servants could use the company of us two noble children," he drawled, rising languidly to his feet. He shed his black jacket, which was now effectively crumpled and dusted with the dirt on the top of the roof, and slipped back inside through the old door.

A bright smile lit her face when he turned his back to her and color rose to her cheeks from excitment. Following after him, she made sure to close the door tightly behind her lest somebody find out that they had been up there. Cassi was so excited and eager to go down, that without thinking she grabbed a hold of Damien's hand and pulled him after her, leading him down the staris and onto the next floor. She stopped for a moment, her cheeks still filled with color, before staring around the floor in confusion. She'd forgotten where to go.

People who knew Cassi, whether they be servants or close friends that her parents did not know of, knew that Cassi tended to be...forgetful and clumsy when she was excited.

Damien, lazy and unhurried by nature, was uncharacteristically startled when Cassi dragged him down the next flight of stairs by the hand. When they finally stopped, he coldly plucked his hand out of her hers and looked around.

So she had only pulled him down one floor. Strange, it had seemed like more.

"Calm down," he told her, growing more entertained by the second. Already he had switched back to his informal speech. "The picnic isn't going anywhere. Why are you so excited?" He noticed her looking around the floor, and raised his eyebrow. "Why do you look so confused?" A hint of laughter, more amused than mean-spirited, rang in his voice.

She didn't say anything when he pulled his hand out of hers, in fact, she didn't even notice. Cassi wasn't even paying attention to his shift in attitude. As Damien spoke, she smiled sheepishly, having enough sense to feel silly for her rush for something that obviously wasn't going to go anywhere.

Some of her hair had fallen out of its tight do. Ignoring the messiness of it, she turned around to face him with her hands behind her back and another bright smile on her pretty face. Grayish purple eyes shining brightly in her excitment, she offered up yet another sheepish smile, speaking quickly. "I'm sorry. I'm just so excited and well...when I get excited about something, I tend to...forget things...like where to go or what to do."

The corners of Damien's mouth twitched - again. It seemed to be happening quite often lately. "I see," he smirked with a raised eyebrow. "In that case, maybe it'd be best if you followed me."

At his own leisurely pace, the black-haired boy continued down the staircase, putting his hands in his pant pockets. His crumpled jacket lay folded in the crook of his arm, revealing a dressy grey shirt. His parents had insisted that he wear clothes suitable for a noble, but he had ruined the appearance by shoving the crisp sleeves to his elbows.

He walked down in slow silence, with almost lethargic movement. His gaze, however, was active, and took in all the details of the school around him.

He had almost forgotten Cassi was there with him. He remembered again when he began to concentrate on sounds again, and the light footsteps reminded him. Damien turned his head and spoke nonchalantly.

"It's best not to get too excited for anything," he murmured, his voice changing from clear to almost mumbled quietness. "It's too easy to get your hopes dashed that way. Life lesson." He offered a slight smile and turned back, plodding gracefully on his way.
