Simple. By not being able to beat the bosses.

It doesn't matter how many lives you have. If you can't pass, you can't pass.

I recommend going to GameFAQS and looking there to see how brutal it is. They'll tell ya.

He's beatable, but only if you're willing to get all hardcore about beating him. He has an easy pattern to follow, but he has TONS of HP. :'/
