Deficit: So, I may have asked already, but how do you communicate with them? I imagine you've learned some, but I doubt you're fluent by now.
I...know a few words..Learn more everyday.
Alot of Japanese learn English in school
(reading and writing..its the conversation that is the hard part)
1) You can write english if it comes to it. (I havent done that yet)
2) Ordering food is easy. Point to a picture.. and hold up the number of fingers you want! lol But if you can say what it is..its even better.
3) Alot of words sound like our words. Like.. elevator...( El La Vae Ta) or Water (or just say Mizu) ..or Large (Lar-ge'), Rice (Risu)
4) and my fav. Carrying around a list of phrases and my Japanese/English dictionary.. I get a few giggles when I pull it out though. XP
