dragonsix Durza the Shade I want to learn tenor. I don't play a sax yet, though. I play clarinet, and tenor's in the same key, so it will be easy to learn; I'm probably going to play it for pep band this year. that is cool. i play it for pep band too. at first it is really had to blow in. you might have to get used to that. ah it's not that bad i play tenor year round it's a pretty awesome instrument

megamanfan66 -GebrochenFurImmer- I play Tenor biggrin ! Ive been playing for a year and a half! I absolutely love to play on Van Doren 3-3 1/2 they have the best quality. And I also march which is really fun. Hee i love band and the sax lol. Before Pezhi says anything... the reeds have the best quality for YOU, correct? That is what you meant to say? That the reeds are high quality for your personal sax setup? (Say yes) rofl rofl rofl hey i actually like rico the best because they're louder smile i don't really like Van Doren because although they are "better quality" they're too soft for me

pezhi Terra of the Lilies Can anyone here explain a good alto embouchure? Both of our freshmen this year sound pretty honky (when they're playing...), and I've never been very good at explaining that stuff. (And pushing air, I don't know if they really understand that concept or not...I don't know how to say it in any other way. xd ) try explaining it like a rubberband...it should be firm enough to hold it there, and it should be equally firm all around the mouthpiece, but it should be loose enough to let the reed vibrate. P.S. i would MUCH prefer new players to honk rather than sound pinched and weak.

Their high quality reeds (Grand Concert Select and whatnot) are more on par with Vandoren because they're considered 'vintage', meaning they age the cane for better quality. Despite the decent quality of that cane, I don't like the cut, and much prefer the shape of my Vandoren 56s. I haven't bought reeds in so long, I can't recall what the step down from the 56's were, but my teacher showed my how to shape them like the 56, thus saving money if you've got the skills.

Demonic Dream Killer I play alto sax, i tried tenor but I could not adjust. Don't give up. Many, many people try it for an hour or so and then give up. Obviously, you're not going to sound pro the instant that you try it out. I definitely didn't sound good within the first hour, day, even week. Then I started to get the hang of it. Just don't give in to things too easily. Things take time to get good at; even getting used to them takes time. This should be true for me and my new plastic reeds. =) Oh boy, that will be an adventure.

I played it for about a month in 8th grade, and I miss it every day...:[ I didn't really have an amazing sound, and yet after five minutes I sounded better than the seventh grader who played it. xd He sucked, though. I'm hoping to play tenor for jazz band next year, if I have the time. Should be awesome. B]

I'm going to a really nice store tomorrow to try out saxophones. I think that I'm gonna get a yanagisawa alto, but I need to try it first. I'm going to try out as many different types of altos that I can until I get one. Does anyone have suggestions? This is the first time that I'm making a big purchase. I want it to be a good one. question question question

I want it to be a good one. question question question It's all about what's the most comfortable for you. Check the table keys and see if they're good for your pinky. Check the action of the keys to see if they're comfortable and easy to move. Also if it's free blowing and easy to play with whatever mouthpiece your comfortable with. Yani's are great horns and i highly recommend them. Keilwerths are kinda big and have slow action but i love how big their sound is. The pro models even have adjustable palm keys. Yamaha's have great action for me and have a wonderful sound. I've heard good things about the new Jupiters but i havent played on them myself so i cant give an honest opinion on them. Just play on them and take your time to see which suits you best for your playing style.
