Once a battle had started, especially in the wild however, there wasn't much opportunity to give up while still standing. Besides in a place constantly under attack by new trainers, the words of a human didn't always count for much. So it was the Sunkern would continue to fight for her ownb survival, this time encapsulating the boy's Larvesta in one giant bubble. she was still trying to regain what she'd lost.
It would seem that saying you surrender wasn't enough for this pokemon. The attack would expand around his pokemon even as she snuggle in his arms, and the bubble was bigger this time. It would start to boil and shrink this time, and it was clear that with more force it would eventually sink all the way down to pokemon as she gave a screech of pain.
The attack had hit, and she was completely thrown. She didn't understand what had happen, or why or even what that meant.
It was painful and horrible for her all at the same time. Though it was just the smallest bit of pain, she was not used to any as she would start to bawl.
Shiloh had hope to do this at a different time, but he had no choice. It was no time but the present as he would pull her from the safety or the perceived safety of his arms.
"That hurt, right, Phoenix?"
"You didn't like it right, and that was mean. You didn't do anything to make it hurt you like that, right?"
Phoenix would be forced as he held her in front of his face to look him in the face. Her eyes on him as she would nod once.
"Then it's time to fight back, so your ember can do something better than turn things colors. It can also make bad pokemon go away."
he would turn her around, and then hold her upwards.
"Fire you attack upwards, use ember. Let's make the meanie go away."
There was always more than one way to win a fight.
If his plan went right, the embers would go up and arch over the tree and rain down embers upon the ground. It was his plan, but it would only work if she did what she was told.

Ah, the bog! Alice smiled fondly as she stood in ankle-deep water. Where she'd first learned what it felt like to be completely soaked! Admittedly, this now meant she wanted to go home and wrap up in a thick blanket... well, "home" in this case was the tiny house on an island. At least she still had the blanket Lankford had given her. Hugging Vorpal closer (the Honedge was far less pleased about being back), the pink-haired girl leapt onto her first lilypad.

(3-2)+(7-8 ) = 0 DMG! Ledyba is at 14 HP!
The Ledyba paused to giggle mid-air-- that had tickled! Which probably wasn't what the Cottonee had been going for, but that's how battle was sometimes. The bug type gave a playful shake of her wings, eyes light with a battle-urge. This was proving to be quite an interesting battle... well, at least on her end. She cracked her squishy knuckles ineffectively before throwing herself at Tony in a tackle!

As she bounced from lilypad to lilypad, Alice couldn't help thinking of the "good luck" gifts Lankford had foisted upon her. A massive fluffy pink blanket was the one currently on her mind-- it was close to her own hair color, and covered in tiny, dark paw prints. Perhaps a little childish, but the gift had been given out of affection... over-protection, in at least one perpetually-grumpy sword's mind, but still. The thought counted. And it was well-insulated.

Admittedly, Alice was looking forward to a bit of a break. It felt like she'd been on the island forever. Time seemed to pass strangely in this place... or perhaps she'd just been lollygagging too much. She couldn't help chuckling a bit-- lollygagging on lilypads. Oh dear. Perhaps she really did need some rest.

Though she did need to see Professor Strominoff before she got some rest. Alice grinned-- her professor was a bit hard to understand, but seemed like a friendly enough man! Especially at the dance; he'd been quite on top of things when compared to the other teachers. One of them, the scary lady, barely seemed to care what was going on, and the other man definitely looked like he wasn't paying attention.

In the very least, she hoped he'd like the pictures she took. Alice couldn't help reaching back and lightly touching her makeshift pack-- everything was still in there, fortunately. She'd bound it all pretty tightly, even with the Flabebe's strange efforts. Alice only had three pictures of meaning-- that of the Moss Rock, the crater itself, and the strangely-colored Deoxys. A fair assessment of her time on the island!

>Upupu~< A low, playful laugh echoed over the area... originating from a spot right behind Alex. If he turned around, he'd see a Gourgeist... a Super Size one. From his heft and manic energy, it was entirely possible this was one of the creatures that had been plaguing him the latter half of the path. Enormous, bouncing, and smiling, he continued to chuckle in a low, rumbling noise. >Trick or Treat~< he intoned, reaching in to wrap the youth in an embrace. if Alex wasn't careful, he might find himself tangled in this Gourgeist plots... but perhaps that was interesting in it's own right?

Alice vaguely wished she'd gotten a picture of the battle with the Mew. She supposed her Professor must have known all about it, given he'd been in the Mirage Arena, he probably already knew about it. Her mind wandered back to the Mew, and she couldn't help hugging Vorpal tighter to her chest. That poor creature... even if it served some kind of duty in the Arena, it seemed unhappy. She couldn't help wishing for a better situation, as hollow as a wish was.
He was getting close to the exit, but another obstacle presented itself. This time, from behind. He lunged forward reflexively, turning to see the evolved form of a Pumpkaboo. A Gourgeist. He'd need to be careful to avoid it.
As Alice took her next few steps she'd be able to notice something. Her steps were the only sound. Neither the hum of insect wings not even the lapping of the bog water remained. Yet, it wasn't an unnerving, paranoid silence. Rather it seemed somehow at peace. Like every denizen of the bog had gone quite, understanding that they would be safe, so long as HE was here~!
The silence was broken by a splash, scales as bright as the sky shimmering in the air. You could almost see the stalwart beast from several camera angles as he landed upon the path with a thud. Despite being a fish he'd momentarily beached himself, because he held no fear. This was a Pokemon who had watched over this place since time long forgotten. This was the bog's ancient protector....it's true Guardian! ">BAAAH! Eh told that girl, always lead with the pulse. Save that nahmby pamby singing fir later!<" He barked in a rough, weathered tone ">Told her she weren't ready, but naah! What do Eh know right? I'm just some old load ah bilge!<" With a thump the Relicanth smacked his tail against the path before spitting off the edge.
">Time tah remind you kids this 'ere ain't no playground!<" This time his gaze focused on Alice....well it seemed to be. Sort of hard to tell with the heavy lidded eyes of the ancient fish....did he even have eyelids? ">Alright ya whippersnapper time eh taught ya a lesson! M' give ya a few good whacks ta boot!<" With the serious look in it's eyes, the posture of one whom could not be moved, and another mighty thwump of his tail, the message was clear. Alice was in for a FIGHT!

See this was exactly why Wild Pokemon didn't trust humans generally. They were liars! Also they smelled weird. There was only one problem with Shiloh's plan however, for it to work the Sunkern had to hide behind a tree or stay back. This Grass-type wasn't a one trick Ponyta though! Instead of retreating she would actually advance! Charging straight towards the pair! After all, the attack wasn't falling on THEM!
The young man's attempt at avoiding the Gourgeist's warm and "friendly" embrace would fail miserably. An intense force crushed his body, wrapping tighter and tighter. The last thing he'd hear before passing out was another low, dark chuckle...
When Alex came to, he'd find himself in a place unlike the crater area. The sky was dark and overcast; it appeared to be late at night, but the clouds blocked all but the cold glow of the full moon. If he looked behind him, he'd see a haphazard mess of graves; if he looked in front of him, he'd see what seemed to be endless rows of bright-orange pumpkins. Some were plain, some were carved, and some were lit with candles, but they were the only hint of color in this grey and dreary landscape. They were also intimidatingly huge, many towering over six feet tall. The place was silent but for the low rush of the wind.. and a familiar chuckle.
>I see you've finally woken up.< The Gourgeist floated down, landing in front of Alex. Strangely, the words the ghost pumpkin spoke would be perfectly intelligible to the trainer. >I saw you were having some issues with you body, so I decided to... relieve you of your problem<
Indeed, the most troubling thing about the situation was this: Alex was a ghost. A washed-out, translucent, see-through ghost. The Gourgeist managed to stop laughing, and remarked, >Isn't it wonderful? You can stay down here with me! But if you want your body back-- though I don't know WHY you would-- you're going to have to go through my maze.< He motioned to the pumpkin patch behind him-- indeed, upon closer inspection, the pumpkins were actually aligned in strange patterns, and there was only one entrance to be found. >I've put your body in the center of the maze, so that's your goal! Get to the body, and I'll put you back where I found you! If you find your body in time, of course...<
The inappropriately jovial Gourgeist began to float around the young trainer, laughing. >There ARE a couple ground rules, however-- no trying to phase through the walls. There's something... special about these pumpkins that I'm sure you'll just love~< Another fit of giggles, which he managed to get under control. >And no going over the top! I'll be watching you the whole way, so if you cheat, I miiiiiight just retract your prize! Or eat your soul.< He licked his lips, fantasizing. >And think of how lonely your body will be without you... not to mention your Pokemon!< The Gourgeist settled back around, landing next to the maze's entrance. He motioned to the entrance with his hair, inclining his head. >Ready to go? Or perhaps you'd like to stay here with me and the pumpkins... are you ready for your story to be over?<
[EVENT: PEEK-A-BOO'S HAPPY FUN MAZE! You'll proceed through the maze by rolling a D20. Roll one at a time as you go through through the maze. Five even-number rolls are required to reach the center. Try to find body before you hit ten rolls!]
The plan that was in Shiloh's head and reality would clash then. Phoenix was just a hatchling, and she of course didn't understand more of what he meant than to simply fire her attack upwards. Not, upwards and aimed at the tree nor upwards and aimed at the pokemon, but just upwards.
Shiloh didn't communicate that part, he had assumed she would understand it already.
Yet she is just a babe, and what she understood and did match only what was in her head. Her attack wouldn't spew upwards and towards the trees, but upwards completely as it fell at random towards the ground. It would rain like pretty sparklers to her like it had before and it made her feel better as she made a wish for the bad pokemon to go away.
She had no clue that her embers would actually catch the pokemon in the midst of it's charge. That the tiny flickers of fire would find it's target and indeed made the pokemon go away as Shiloh would turn her back to face him before she could actually see what her attack had done.
"Good job."
He would tell her in a cooing voice as he tries to make sure that she could see him and nothing else as he spoke soothingly to her.
