Would you bother to pick up a comic book if you know the hero will be perfectly fine all the time? lol yeah actually, just out of curiosity. Oh. Well then again I am a little guilty since I buy anime movies despite knowing that they are not going to die. lol we already know that the main characters will never die. ^^ Well I can name one anime that doesn't apply to. Gantz.

I'm not sure what you mean by dated though. Animation quality I mean. That shouldn't be a problem. As I'm perfectly fine with Case Closed/Detective Conan animation. Although I may have misinterperted something.

You only know Guts got out but since the anime didn't follow the manga thats to be expected. You know that about 4 people fom an army of I think about 100 or 200 got out alive. Although one of them is now a villian. Aren't you leaning someones fate towards evil if you name them Vicious? But this serise is getting alot of praise.
