"Sola's the best fighter out of all of us, Luna's the least crippled by morality..." Shade said, "So this fight should be good. Sola'll go for heavy hits, but Luna will fight as dirty as she can."

Kikyo nodded.
"Interesting family..." she said, as she continued to watch. Dojo jumped at her, but this time she pinned him without a glance. "Dojo, wait a minute." she said, before turning back to the fight.

"Yeah. Sola was always training for fights. Mother paid for all of her classes in just about every martial arts there was. Luna spent more of her time reading, which mother also paid for..." Shade said, his voice becoming bitter.

Kikyo looked at Shade.
"I guessing she didn't pay for what you wanted to do...Before you wanted to be a thief..." she said, looking a little sorry fro Shade. Dojo just squirmed a little.

"Heh, that's an understatement. Mother never even bothered herself with me. She'd just ignore that fact that I was even alive, unless she needed something done. Thought I was more of a servant than her son..." Shade said, "Then I ran away when I turned seven. It was a big family trip to NYC, and I ran off on the way to the Empire State building. That was when I found Vinny. He and I went to his family, who treated me like a real person. And once my family went back home, only Sola noticed I was gone. That was just because she needed me to go get her suitcase from her room."

"Suckish." Kikyo said, looking back up at the fight. "What about your dad?" she looked back at Shade with a questioning glance.

"That spineless coward. He was at work most of the time, and when he was home he was catering to mother's every whim. He never even looked me in the eye once. I tried to show him a drawing I'd made when I was six... He never even looked at it..." The tears were stinging, coming to Shade's eyes. He fought them back with the power of cold fury. He remembered all the time he'd spent with Vinny. Good old Vinny, the best adoptive cousin a guy could wish for.
Luna had just swept Sola's leg out from under her and held her older sister by the throat to the ground.
"Hey Luna, can we call it for today? I think Shade's talking with Kikyo up there." Sola said, motioning with her head towards Shade and Kikyo. Luna nodded, and the two headed for their rooms.

"I know what you mean..." she muttered, watching at Luna and Sola went into the temple.She let Dojo go, and smacked him away again.

"Vinny's my only real family. I was at the funeral for his parents when they were killed by a rival gang. Me and Vinny rallied our gang, the NY Paladins, and we personally lead the hit squad that went after the killers. Soon after that Vinny became leader of the Paladins, and found out a hit squad from a rival gang was after me. He loaned me the car told me to get out. That's how I became 'Shade, the Wandering King of Theives...'." Shade said. Vinny always had his back. He looked at the sky and saw a bottle flying at them. He caught it and saw there was a note inside. He popped the bottle open and read the note.

Kikyo looked at the note.
"What's it say?" she asked, trying to change the subject from 'who's life sucks more?'.

"No... This can't be right..." Shade said. It was a newspaper clipping. The headline read "Gang war out of control". It went on to say that the NY Paladins, a less than sinister gang, had been nearly eradicated last night, and that among the dead was Paladin leader, Vinny Moreni.
"Vinny..." Shade said, tears coming fiercely. He buried his head in his arms.

Kikyo looked at Shade.
"Shade?" she asked, before seeing the clipping.
'So...he's dead...' she thought, thinking back. 'It was only a matter of time...considering how I saw him...' she thought back to the day they went after the gills which Blade and Chase still had.

"They want me at the funeral... The same as for his parents..." Shade said between sobs. It was on the note, the date set for next week. But Shade knew he'd be there sooner. He was going to kill every last one of those bastards that killed Vinny and the Paladins. The King of thieves would have his revenge.

Kikyo looked over the clipping, and put her hand on Shade's shoulder.
"Killing them won't solve anything..." she said. "Trust me. You can kill them ten times over, and and it still won't bring Vinny or any of the others back..."

"You think I don't know that... I know Vinny's gone for good... But I'm still going to kill those bastards." Shade said, "It's time for the King of thieves, to become the Angel of Death..." He stood, ready to jump down to the ground. He had enough weapons in his suitcase to do the job twice over.
