"there was an order of magi that I had dismissed in norrath as fanciful legends or human superstitions, as it came from their stock. they were called the 'Seekers of the Dark Truth'. an offshoot of humanity, who developed entirely along intellectual minds, had opted in this society to blind themselves after the fashion of a muramite tribe called the Kyv. the Kyv were hunters. rangers, archers that ritually blinded themselves and though blindness became so sharp of hearing and fluid in movement to become truly deadly. I learned blindfighting after encountering one."

settling back in his chair.

"this order were said to possess incredible powers of magic....far beyond what a human should be able to do, more along the lines of the kinds of power displays Fianna or Sevilin can do. This was attributed to blindness. that they used the lack of mortal sight as a doorway, a way to focus in on magical power, and tap into reserves and methods of harvesting magical energy unheard of by other humans or Erudite, the race from which they came."

gesturing to his daughter.

"Her ability to harness this, to focus it, adapt it without any real teaching, to see through magical energy and signatures. proves that order may have been more then just a human fancy. but now the question is how does she see those without innate magical talent? like Broog. or many of the common servants. and with this talent, we can teach her to read, and to write. My daughter is apparently not as 'blind' as we seem to think she is."

"Wouldn't be the first time someone with mage potential who wasn't up to par with the rest of the world did something as such." Agreeing with his wife on that one before a look to Malik's own pondering on the book they had found. "Maybe she doesn't see them at all. Or maybe she picks up something different from them."

"Magic can make one just as blind as if they didn't have sight." They were excited, Fianna objected. This school of magic usage was unfamiliar to her but there were some things that were just there to be wary of. "Magic can often be and often is formed into nothing more than falsities. If she allows herself to trust what she sees that way, it could only breed trouble for her."

Savvy was of course standing by her mother at this point, listening them discuss things about her while she and her mother remained quiet. It was hard to explain for her everything that she did, seeing as she didn't know really how to describe things in a way they would probably get it.

"In most cases they are the only ones who mean it in a artistic appreciateive way. " That made him snicker in amusement. "You heard people talking as such and you didn't tell them off and stake your claim? I suppose that makes you the bigger person though." Especially if those elves were women. Married or not, some didn't care.

"We knew she was potent magically when she pulled her tricks on Dhairiss. The lifetap was strong enough to harm him. Of course he's already at a disadvantage due to his heart condition but it was a bigger problem than we anticipated. She has to be watched in the same way that Zykariel did when he was young because they can't control their magical output." Her gaze swung to her husband and she rolled her eyes. They'd been dealing with this since they began having children. Fianna was right too, though, and she decided to wait and see what else they'd bring up. This was not her child and not her decision to make.

She ran her fingers over a spot on his thigh to smudge it slightly and then held the drawing up to study it more closely. "I don't need to tell them anything. They know who you belong to and they're jealous that they can't have you." Giving a completely female grin. "Your father told me I could sell my paintings. How much do you think they'd pay for one of you like this?"

"Control she seems to have. and my concerns here are more in line of this becoming a way to teach my daughter the basic skills that most of us take for granted in learning because we an see. Humans found a method for the blind to read, if not write, but it requires that every page and book and item of learning be made again in the specific secondary text, which she'd also have to learn. if this knowledge can be used to let her learn as we can learn just through magical imbuement, I would like to go that route."

Steepling his hands in front of him.

"and while Dhairiss is out of my hair, I intend to get her studies into necromancy underway."

"Let me guess...that would be my job yes?" Because in the years Sevilin had pretty much became the be all and end all of such magic driven things. Not that he wouldn't enjoy such a thing...magic did amuse him.

Piper sighed as they all fought back and forth over the child, merely petting through said child's hair. "OKay, as mother of said child which trumps all of you, I'm going to make the decision. If we can do this for her to read and such, then we will. But if we intent to apply it to everything else, she had to know that just because she sees it one way doesn't mean it's that and so forth. Furthermore it always stands by as if it turns out to be nothing but draining, frustrating and ignored by her then we stop. Mother to child, word is law, mother has spoken.

He could only grin at that explanation and give a small pleased chuckle. A chuckle though that turned into a cough however at her smile and proposed business plan. "Uh well...that one...um...do we have to sell anything that I'm involved in that would make people stare at me more than they already do?"

Zahara resolved to stand back with arms crossed. Malik thought this was a good thing but time would tell for sure. If it helped Savryn and was managed then she was all for it. But she had learned over decades of raising her own children that things that seemed positive at first could very quickly get out of hand. Her eyes narrowed at his final comment and she flapped her hands in some semblance of agreement then merely grasped Sevilin's sleeve to keep herself from doing something stupid. "Then do what you must."

Kaelin laughed, amused by his embarrassment and she reached over and pressed a kiss to his funny colored cheek. "It would be silly for me to do such a thing. The steel I'd make off a sale wouldn't be worth the knowledge that someone else had something only I'm supposed to have. It doesn't upset you that I draw you this way, does it?"

"Agreed on that. Savryn...how is it that you see Broog? does he glow colors or anything?"

watching Zahara a moment and looking to Fianna and Sevilin...before making a mental tally.

"and where is my father in law? did he go sneaking off somewhere?"

Woman was about to lose it and that wasn't a good thing. Though she wasn't the only one. Patting at her gripping hands lightly, he turned a look and whisper onto her. "Why don't you and Fianna go get something to drink hm? See if you can convince her to try something new. I'm sure there's something you two can gossip about."

Fianna wasn't settled with this either of course but at the same time...it was an intriging manner to it all. But for all her say she merely crossed her arms and tucked her hands inside her sleeves calmly. "I told him to stay at the table if he knew what was good for him."

In the meantime she had been quiet enamoured with her mother, leaning against the woman with her eyes closed and just enjoying that warm feeling that had always been between them. A few blinks though as her name was called and she looked over. "No...I hear Broog. He makes Broog Noises."

"No, it doesn't upset me. I would just feel better knowing that people aren't ogling me, especially when it's not in my power to stop them." Giving her a smirk however as she was indeed quite aware of things. "Personally I would hope that no one could afford your price in the first place."

Pissed didn't even begin to describe her feelings about this whole thing. She brushed Sevilin's hands off and shook her head then stalked off into the kitchen and poured herself something strong. "That...damn b*****d. If he was half the father Sevilin is, we wouldn't have these problems!" Slamming her glass down and clutching the counter for a moment. It was utterly ridiculous the way this was unfolding.

"No, they probably wouldn't. But just in case someone came along and could afford my price, I'd have to take it off for sale anyway. It would be terrible to allow someone to have access to what is supposed to be solely mine." And then she paused for a moment and glanced at him. "Can I show you something....dirty?"

"Broog noises? what are broog noises. how do tell his sounds from say any of the other ogres that are downstairs."

he was genuinely curious about this. and this gave another benefit to necromancy for his daughter. if she could 'see' magical auras and energies, learning necromancy would, perhaps, let her 'see' the flow of the life essences around her. wasn't going to help with non magical inanimate objects. but more often then not those were not as harmful as a living thing or a magically empowered thing, could be.

"He breathes funny because of the soots, and he drags things like this," Demonstrating by dragging the now metal toe of her boot across the floor in a defined walking pattern before righting herself, "And he taps stuff like this," demonstrating that by rapping her fingers on the arm of her father's chair, quite happy indeed at all this seemingly positive attention she was getting. She wasn't in trouble for anything. "And he makes the metal noises and the fire noises." Quite eager to please.

"Being angry at him won't help much Zahara. Though yes a good drink will." Indeed she had taken herself off as well. After all, her little part was done and she knew nothing of they type of magic that they were dabbling in at all. More underhand and underdark oriented and it was more or less out of her realm of scope save in learned theory. Sometimes theory didn't help.

"Well I'm glad we have the same thoughts on that. It does make me feel better yes." Though he tilted his head at her at her question. Pretty sure that all teh connotations that could come with that word didn't ring in her head at all. "Like?"

"Interesting. have you used your new talent to be able to see Broog yet? or anyone else yet that you didn't know or only knew by sound?"

picking her up and setting her on his lap, though a glance at Piper and Sevilin.

"Zahara's pissed at me, isn't she."

More happiness at being placed back in his lap. It meant he was paying attention and really couldn't pay attention to anything else but her. That was the goal. But a blink. "Mm...no?" Was that the right answer? "I know what Broog looks like, why do I need to see him? I like his noises."

"A'mael, you know how difficult of a subject this all can be." She didn't blame Zahara...she just didn't blame Malik either. Perpetually left to dance on the fence and play peace keeper she supposed. Savryn always riled a nerve or two in several people.

Sevilin merely gave a snicker snort. "If a day goes by where you two are not either angry with one another, or are conspiring together, I'm inclined to believe that the plane is going to collapse that very second."
PostPosted: Wed Dec 23, 2009 10:02 pm

"I know that, but it's so frustrating to stand by and watch him alienate his son while praising his daughter when he's ignored her for so damn long. The only reason he's even paying a lick of attention to that girl is because he can use her. She shows promise and therefore he can pass on his arts where none of his boys were willing to learn." Shaking her head. "Sevilin may have a favorite but he sure as hell doesn't let his other children know that!"

She tilted her head and then gazed at him for a moment. "I found this picture in a book and copied it over. It seemed so...forbidden and wrong, but as I was doing it the strangest sensations came over me..." Flipping the page and revealing two figures entwined together in a mating dance that she didn't understand. The male's head was thrown back as though he was crying out and the female had her forehead pushed into the male's neck. They were sitting, yet the female's legs were wrapped around the male's waist as though she were riding a horse. And both were naked, the female's hair brushing the curves of her buttocks as she curled against her mate. At least Kaelin assumed they were mates. "Is that dirty to you?"

"Well, if you wanted to see Broog, you know you could now. does his appearance frighten you? or what about Dhairiss or Malikhai or Kaelin? would you like to see them more so you can see how they look, rather then just hear thier voice...or do you see them like you see the vials you were looking at?"

glancing at his wife.

"Yes, yes...and I'm sure she'd understand better if she had a frame of referance, but she doesn't."

before turning his attention to his daughter again.

"does using that new talent bother you any?"
