I own a Vito clarinet...I bought it used and have had it for almost 7 years now soooo...you do the math...its pretty crappy...its sustained alot of injuries from marching seasons past (lol...that sounds like a poem)...the register key has been bent (but I fixed it) thanks to a colorguard girl's flag hitting it, the cork has come off and been replaced several times, and I've had to buy a new mouth piece...I think its half plastic and half wood (I know for sure that the bell is made of wood, but I'm not sure about the upper and lower key thingys and the barrel)...sooo...yeah...that's my clarinet...even with all these flaws it plays pretty well with the occasional squeak (but who doesn't squeak...I've heard pros squeak) it has character and sometimes a mind of its own, but I love it anyway heart heart heart

oh...and here ish meh:
User Image
I kinda stole it from band life sweatdrop this was taken at State in 2005...we got 5th place in the 3A division

I have a Vito too! I'm a Freshman and i've been playing since 6th grade. =^.^=. Only two and a half years. ^^

Hey Fellow Clarinets!

I have been playing clarinet for almost 3 years now. And this is the first time I am trying out for regional band. I am first chair in the band but I am really nervous, any tips??

Bonjour mon chere! oh my mozart I haven't been on the clarinet thread forever gonk I've been busy preparing for honor band myself, the poulenc is one tough cookie ><;.

Oh my so many freshmans, ello! :3 I'm a freshman myself, been playing since sixth grade.

I have a couple things to say about auditions

the first thing to summarize it all up if you don't want to read my crazy long advice is confidence

eat a banana, thats what i tell anyone before they perform or audition for anyone is to eat a banana, it really helps with the nerves. Don't be intimidated by the crazy people around you that sound great, you're just as great because you are trying out [it doesn't make sense o_O], er basically have confidence. warming up truly reflects what kind of musician you are, do you do long tones? what do you do? When you warm up before your audition, ignore the other auditioner's bragging, who cares if they could play poulenc at 136 and you can play it at 120,. don't waste the talent you have on a bunch of high schoolers, always always warm up, or you'll die in your audition Take deep breaths, take moments in between scales and take time before you start your piece. When you enter the room walk in with confidence, don't show them you're scared fake it, smile and say hello, because if you walk in with this fear in your eyes and a shakey "hello" they will start focusing on all your flaws when you play, they already spotted that you are nervous as hell, they'll spot it, once that flaw is spotted automatically in their mind they will look for your faults when you play.

when you play, imagine you're in a concert hall, if you've ever performed at carnegie hall or some great european concert hall imagine it, and you're playing with this great pianist or orchestra, and just express yourself and be conceited as hell when you play, show them your dynamic range and everything~ make them feel like they are there with you.

sight reading, look at it carefully, you probably know the rules of sight reading; looking at the signs, unusual rhythms, signature etcetc. play it at a tempo you can play it at [unless told otherwise], and always look ahead, never ever ever stop, and play with confidence.

finally, thank them for their time at the end, they took time to listen to you and give you a wonderful chance to play for them, so thank them.

mm I'm planning on getting a pair of R13s soon, I finally get an A clarinet! But I don't wanna part from my E11 just yet, it sounds wonderful, I've had it for two years .

ooh we got these clarinet shirts for marching band too the front is sorta odd, it has this outline of this guy listening to music and it says, "can I get a soul beat?" on the back it has a casette tape and it shows a clarinet and says press play. its pretty cute :].

beaniegurl_92: thats pretty odd, last year in middle school we had a massive wind ensemble, 130 in it, the year before there was 200 but mr. a wanted it smaller. But we've gone to carnegie in new york, chicago, and europe...and our wind symphony in high school is going to boston to attend music clinics at harvard, NEC, etc :/ is it money problems with the band? If you truly want to go you can try making a fundraising performance dinner or something

sweatdrop sorry everyone who is new to this thread I'm a chatter here XD rofl sweatdrop and i haven't been here for so long >
good luck to everyone trying out for honor bands!

Good evening, my fellow clarinetists! I'm a junior at Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School. i've been playing for maybe seven years now... I'm first chair in our band. Um... I also participate in marching band, pep band, concert band, and contest. It's really quite fun! I finally got a proffessional clarinet after playing on a beginner's for years. It sounds so nice! It has a... darker sound, I think. Um...

Yeah. *nervous giggle*

I've been playing clarinet in concert for 6 years now. I own an E11 Buffet, but I want an R12. I'm happy with what I've got, it beats playing on a used Bundy for 2 years and then having it die on you. I prefer playing 3rd part, I like the low harmony stuff.

^w^
my third year playing clarinet
I'm in the RHS band and probably one of the best freshman
;D though i love my clarinet deeply I'll disown it any day of the week to play my oboe
but i couldn't live without my clarinet
I tend to get the first or second part cause those are the fun parts >>; keep me away from the solos....

with most of us it is not really a money issue. if we wanted to we could raise enough money. i think its more of my directors schedule is so packed because he runs the entire music department. and travel is a little hard. at least with choir you dont have to lug instruments every where. and our nearest airport is 2 and a half hours away. we have an airport but we get maybe 3 plane in a week. if that. it is so much more expensive to fly out of our airport then SFO or LAX or one of the other big ones. i live in california if you couldnt tell. but at the very top about 6 hours from San Francisco and half an hour from the oregan border. even driving is alot.9 hours from seattle 17 from LA. were kind of secluded sweatdrop

you live in cali too!? Oooh I live down in southern cali.

Anyways, eep thats pretty long ><; ah I can see your problem with that =/, thats unfortunate ><; I can't really think of anything gonk . I mean if you have a fine choir [going to germany is pretty big] then your band must be just as good or better :/...why doesn't your band director hire another director to help him? It'll take out the stress in his life. I mean, here in DB we have 2 conductors, one student conductor, and a percussion ens conductor :/. If he tried finding someone to hire I think it would benefit him so he can at the very least consider a fun trip for you guys.

if you guys are reallly good maybe at the very least if you can't go out of state you can go tour cali, attend clinics at san fran conservatory, colburn, usc,

or something sweatdrop . Well I hope you have a happy new year!
