"Sure, if you want to. It's plenty warm enough." Uniform requirements were unofficially more lax in the summer. Arizona was killer, especially out in the middle of the desert.
Dari perked. "Hm? Maybe."

"It'll be fun," Maia said, smiling at the two of them. The lake was definitely the selkie's favorite place to go in Arizona; even more than the mall. "Its supposed to get really hot," she said. Hm. How was she supposed to survive the later months? Were those the hottest?
"Ready to go inside?" She asked.

Toby sighed.
"You want to go in already?"
"I'll go with you," Dari said without hesitation. Let Toby have some alone time if he wanted it. He might need it tonight.

Maia led Dari inside, looking to the alien. She rubbed at her arms. If she'd stayed in Toby's lap much longer she figured she would break her promise to Dari. "Want to read?" She asked. "You can pick the book."

"Sure, we can read. Something harder this time," Dari said, heading for the bookshelf.
It was only a few days later when Maia's classes with Dari were found cancelled, and her usual visit to the boys' office would be met with a locked door and a note: "At briefing. Back soon. smile " Meant specifically for Maia, of course.

Maia was baffled when her classes with Dari were cancelled: had something happened? Was Dari hurt? He claimed to not feel pain, was Toby hurt and the alien had gone with him?
She was concerned until she reached their office and read the note. Oh good. Everything was fine then. She went to wait in research with Seamus.
"Hey kitty," she greeted him. "Want to wait for Toby with me?"

Today Seamus didn't give any vocal clues. He just sat, tail waving. Sure, he would wait. What did she want to do? He started off toward the cafeteria. He couldn't get in without human help, only Pixie could accomplish that.

Maia followed Seamus to the cafeteria, scooping him up and opening the door. "Okay. You sit here, and I'll get us something to eat." She sat him down on a chair. "Be good, okay? Then you Can come with me when we find Toby."
She went to order her meal, making sure to get plenty of cold cuts for Seamus.

SUCCESS! Seamus meowed loudly as they entered. Look, humans! He had breached the door! He sat patiently while Maia left, but when she returned she would only be able to hear him yowling angrily outside the glass door. Someone had kicked him out.

Maia quickly went to Seamus' rescue. Well. That hadn't been very polite, whoever had thrown him out. "Come on, we'll go eat in research," She said, leading him down the hall. "I've got a whole bunch of stuff for you. I'm sorry they were rude."

Had Seamus been seelie, he might have felt bad for tricking a good companion, but he wasn't. Instead, the young tech who had dropped him outside was now convinced that Seamus had cursed her.
Seamus did not meow but he purred and rubbed Maia's ankles as they returned to the research department. Surprisingly, there they would find Toby poring over some paperwork with one of the techs. He looked up to Maia and smiled when she entered, but then went back to the file in his hand. Dari stood just beside him, unmoving.

Well. They'd found Toby and Dari. They seemed busy though, so Maia sat near Seamus' box of toys and offered the cat sidhe a piece of meat. "Look, we found them. What do you think they're up to?"

Who? What? Toby. Right. No, mostly just meat right now, thanks. Seamus accepted the treat hungrily. He HAD breached the barriers, after all. His servant had simply been too slow.
When the boys were finished chatting to the tech and retrieving the extra info, they approached Maia, who had apparently decided to have lunch with the cat.
"Hey," Toby said with a smile, "Sorry we weren't around."

Maia handed Seamus another piece of meat before looking up to Toby. She smiled at him. "Its alright. I was a bit worried when class with Dari was cancelled but then I saw the note at your office." She stood, setting her plate down So Seamus could finish what was left, and gave each of the agents a hug.
"Busy today, huh?"

Seamus initially put his paw on Maia's knee. No, don't leave, it was food time! As soon as her plate hit the floor, though, all was forgotten, and he could be heard loudly purring through a nomming mouth.
Oh good, Toby thought. She'd found the note.
"Yeah. Actually we're, uh. We're going back out into the field soon."
