"Yes," Earendil agreed, patting Andarien on the head and smiling at Lin. He turned to look at Miyuki. "Ready to explore?" he asked her with a wink.

Andarien wasn't listening, just holding onto the piece of bread and sucking on the piece that was in his mouth.

Miyuki nodded her head up and down excitedly, "Yes! I want to see everything!"

Which wouldn't be difficult being a small village, but it was funny that she wanted to see everything.

Earendil laughed and ushered his family towards the door. "I'm sure we'll be able to," he grinned. "Where shall we begin? Anywhere in particular you want to see first?"

He knew they were looking for a staff for Miyuki, but beyond that he didn't have anything particular in mind for himself.

Miyuki actually had to think about that, because she didn't have to choose a place that was a matter of fact they would go anyways. So the question was, was where.

She shrugged after a while, "No, I just want to see the town, it doesn't matter where we start."

"All right then," Earendil nodded, looking around. "I suppose we could pick a street and work our way up it, then look down the next street."

He started down the street, looking for signs that represented businesses. There were a few on the street - a manuscript shop, a candle shop, and a tailor - but across the street from them were residential houses.

"Not many," Lin commented softly looking from one side of the street to the next, "Along this street anyways."

There really was no reason to drop by the tailor's at the moment, they had gotten the clothes they needed for the children and Andarien's fitted only because they made sure to get some in larger sizes. Not unless they wanted to prepare for his next growth.

"It is a very small town," Earendil reminded Lin. "Actually, the way Daeron was talking when we were on our way here, I'm a little surprised they even have a manuscript shop. They're few and far between, really."

Either that or he was just used to the Southland, where trees (and thus paper) were more scarce.

"Shall we check it out?" he asked. "Though I doubt we're going to be here long enough to have a book copied, even if we had one in mind."

Lin had probably only been in a manuscript shop a few times and that was probably during one of the many days they had spent on Amon Darthir when she was alone. So she was interested.

"Let's, even if we're not going to be here long, it would be nice to see."

Besides it would also be good for MIyuki to see how books are made, Gaia was very different with it's mechanical technology books and other such products were very common.

That sounded good to Earendil, and with a nod he headed over to the manuscript shop and held the door open so that Lin and Miyuki could enter first.

Inside, the shop was a large open space with all differently designed books on several shelves. The smell of paper and glue were the prevalent scents in there, though there was also a hint of leather. In the middle of the room, a writing desk was set up with two books on it - one a complete book, its pages filled with writing, and the second open to a half-filled page: the place where the manuscripts themselves were copied into other books for the customers.

Miyuki liked the smell paper, but not so much the glue. Still that and the combination of leather and paper was actually quite pleasant. Curious, because she didn't really visit the manuscript shop while at Amon Darthir, Miyuki made her way over to the writing desk to see what was being written.

She found it interesting, of course she knew about this way of writing and had assumed all books were made like that even in Gaia.

The writing in the book was neat and flowing, but a script that the young kitsune would not yet have seen. Though the language was the same as that of Amon Darthir, they had different runes, and they were also different from those of the Southland.

"Looks like a history book," Earendil commented, looking over Miyuki's shoulder. He looked over at the completed book, then reached over and flipped through it a bit. "Recent history ... the past hundred years, I believe."

That interested him. He didn't know much about the modern Westland, though he had studied its past.

Miyuki actually had been learning the runes of the West Land elves but only because she had to learn Common Elvish for their trip to Amon Darthir.

Well that and Lin didn't learn until their long stay at the island what the rune system was, so taught Miyuki the only system she knew to connect to the language. Teaching Miyuki had become a very learn by priority matter so Miyuki had never gotten around to learning High Elven yet.

"Is that a long time ago?" Miyuki asked.

"To you," Lin murmured, "You're young, but really it's not that long ago."

Not between time jumps and long life spans.

Earendil chuckled softly at Lin's explanation. No, it certainly wasn't that long ago.

"It's about as long as I've been alive," he told Miyuki. "I will be one hundred years old soon."

It sounded old, until he compared himself to others that he knew.

"How old is Mommy?" Miyuki asked looking at her mother.

Lin had to think about it, because at this point she didn't remember, because of all the time jumping and the conversion to the Elven calendar she didn't even have a birthday. Hell, she didn't even remember to celebrate her birthday because she grew in spurts.

"I think somewhere in my 20s... around there."

Earendil chuckled softly. It was true - there really was no real way to tell anymore how old Lin truly was, especially as since she had been a stage-growing child as well, she hadn't counted her age chronologically anyways, only visually.

He looked up as the front door of the shop opened and a young woman entered the shop. She was clearly a Westlander, with light hair and green eyes, but beyond that there was nothing remarkable about her.

"Would you like to pick out a book to use as a journal or something?" he asked Miyuki with a smile. "I'm not sure how full the one is that you're using right now, but it will last you a good long time, I'm sure."
