I kinda' have a love hate relationship with it right now.
I love the fact that I can use it as a shield, weapon and wall.
I hate the fact that it explodes and tries to impale me constantly. ):

xd Normally the Maelstrom Spiral isn't so powerful, but he'd been charging for longer than usual. Longer charge = stronger attack. He could pool energy for one post and use his finisher, but it'd be weak. Two-three is usually optimal, and more than that it can get pretty pumped. And it has side-effects. Burns, some shredded skin, etc.
Plus, one of those ice things had to be destroyed. They cna't just sit there XD
EDIT:: From the first pot I found post the ground-fight where I noted Deitric's power 'buzzing', is a space of like seven posts to the Maelstrom Spiral. That's more than 3x the typical charging time with a two post, and more than double with the 3 post charge. So he was really just stacking until he was about to explode before releasing it all on a target. The overblow is actually part of the attack, too, because the first part usually doesn't lay most Gaian fighters out, so the overblow is a "surprise" to knock them over.
