"Six badges, that's pretty impressive," the large man nodded, looking towards both Maven and Keegan once more as they were introduced. He cleared his throat, and stood up tall once more, putting both hands behind his back. "I am Lieutenant Surge, the leader of the Vermilion City Gym," he told them in a rather official-sounding voice. "And remember, kids," he continued, leaning down to look them in the eye, "that's Lieutenant, got it? Not 'sir' or 'mister', but Lieutenant." Once he was certain he had his point across, he looked to his daughter once more. "Ah, yes, our rematch. We can begin whenever you like, that is, unless anyone else is up for an official gym match." His gaze came to rest on Keegan once more, and the burly man was certain that Kasiya wasn't telling him everything about the lad before him. "What about you, sonny?" he asked, nudging the redhead on the shoulder. "You up for a match with old Surgey here? Or what about you?" he continued, this time making direct eye contact with Maven. He rested his large, meaty hands on his hips once more as he waited for a response from either of them.

Train and Pikachu walked for a short while, and then were very close to Pewter. Train picked up Pikachu and jogged the rest of the way inside. She headed for the Pokemon Center.

Train let Nurse Joy take Ratata's Pokeball and Pikachu, then sat in an emoty chair to wait.

Not long after, Nurse Joy came out, smiling and holding Ratata's Pokeball while Pikachu walked along beside her. "Your pokemon are fighting fit!" She said happily, handing Train her pokemon back.

"Thanks!"

Kurine quickly forgot about the little incident with the other trainer. She was again happily heading for Violet.

Then she decided to take a break and just look around at everyone. She sat in the shade of a tree and Cyndaquil curled up beside her.

Kurine thought about home. She kind of missed her mom and everyone. Just a bit homesick. Not much, though. The still-there exciment of being a pokemon trainer was pushing homesickness away from her.

Maven couldn't control her shaking as Lt. Surge challenged her. She tried to maintain the eye contact with him. The moment she tried to speak she lost any courage she may have had and her head went down to look at her feet. The reaction caused her hair to fall in her face and cover it in hopes to hide from the intimidating presence in front of her.
"N-n-n-n-n-n-o-o-o-o Lie-ute-nant Sur-ge. I-i-i-i-i-i'm n-n-n-n-not a...a t-true t-trainer." Maven stuttered out as she took a step back and to the side. She had to catch herself as she nearly tripped over her own feet due to her shaking.

Maven felt like she wanted to run back home to hide under her blankets. Lt. Surge, wether or not Kasiya's look tried to portray he's just acting, scared her beyond belief. She finally couldn't hold anything up anymore she became too scared of the massive man and she fell to her knees on the gym floor.

"Actually," Keegan cleared his throat and did his best to stand tall, "I would like to challenge, you, Lieutenant," he said boldly, deciding then and there that he wouldn't let Surge's intimidation tactics get to him. "I'm a trainer from the Hoenn Region, Lavaridge Town, in fact, and I recently defeated Wattson, the leader of the gym in Mauville City." Keegan had still been unsure as to what type of Pokemon Surge specialized in, but judging by the decor inside the gym, and the lightning bolt patterns he saw etched in the walls and glossy throne that Surge usually rested in, he was becoming certain that it was most likely the electric type, which would mean that once again, Artemis and Althena would have to sit on the sidelines. However, he noted that it would be a good chance to see just what his newest capture, Tierra, was capable of.

"Go get him, Keegan," Kasiya said encouragingly, backing off a few steps to let her father get on with all his official-ness, which would include details of the battle and whatnot. She went to Maven's side, and offered to help her friend up by extending a hand. "Don't let him get to you," Kasiya told her softly. "He's a very nice guy, he just acts all big and tough to ward off trainers who aren't ready for him yet." She gave Maven a reassuring pat on the shoulder, and led her over to a row of seats that were reserved for spectators. She hadn't sat in on a match in this gym for a long time, although this time, she knew in her heart she wouldn't be cheering for her father. She made herself comfortable, and thought about letting one of her Pokemon out, but decided against it. She didn't know what kind of match her father wanted to have with her, but she definitely planned to show him just how much stronger she'd become since their last battle.

"That's what I like to hear!" Surge laughed heartily, clapping Keegan on the shoulder. "We'll begin right away!" Surge rubbed his hands together, looking pensive for a moment or so, as though he were remembering something. He muttered to himself a few times before coming to a decision, and once again he took up that official sounding voice of his. "This will be an official Pokemon League Gym Battle," he stated clearly, nodding. "We will each use three Pokemon, and switching out is prohibited. Other than that, normal battle rules will apply, with Pokemon becoming disqualified if they are unable to continue battling. Do you understand these rules, boy?"

As he waited for a response from Keegan, a young man with stringy blonde hair, a white tank top and baggy, well-worn blue jeans entered the front doors of the gym, a guitar strapped across his back. Surge beckoned to him, and the youth came over, looking as though he'd just woken up recently. "Glen, great timing," Surge grinned. "We're about to have an official match, so do you wanna call it?"

Glen said nothing, but nodded, and yawned as he made his way across the gym floor to the referee stand. "Whenever you're ready, dudes," he said, stifling another yawn.

"Take yer place over there," Surge told Keegan, pointing to the other side of the gym. He cracked his knuckles in a very loud manner before he selected a Pokeball from his belt, and enlarged it. Even at its full size the Pokeball was dwarfed by Surge's massive appendage. "Let's get things started off!" He let the sphere fly, revealing a small, magnet-shaped Pokemon - a Magnemite. It droned quietly and hovered on the spot, blinking its single eye at its challenger.

Keegan uttered his agreement, certain he'd be able to comply with the simple rules Surge had laid down. He cast only a passing glance at the boy called Glen as he reached his position, and he was relieved to see that Surge looked a lot less imposing from a distance. Keep it together, and we can take him down, the redhead thought, watching Surge release his first Pokemon. Keegan groaned inwardly, remembering how easy it had been to take down Wattson's Magnemite with Helios. The little Vulpix's constant array of fiery attacks had been more than enough to defeat it, and Keegan wondered to himself who would be best to combat the dual steel and electric type. Since he hadn't had much experience with steel types themselves, he was slightly unsure as to what their weaknesses were, other than to fire. He decided to stick with what he knew, which was that ground types were impervious to electrical attacks. His fingers traced over the Pokeball that held Tierra, and he unhooked it, letting it fly. He hadn't battled with the Geodude more than once, but he had faith that he could get her to do her best. That's what trainers were meant to do, right?

The rocky Pokemon appeared in a flash of white, her solid arms crossed against the lower portion of her round, lumpy body. She was hovering only a few inches from the ground, looking half asleep. "Geo..." she muttered slowly, taking a few moments to study her surroundings.

Right, she's lazy, Keegan thought suddenly, remembering that she'd refused to comply with any of his commands during the battle with the reporter lady, at least until she suffered damage. Better start out slowly this time... "Okay Tierra, let's start out with something easy. Defense Curl!" Keegan called, and was actually surprised to see that the Geodude obeyed. She pulled her arms closer to her body, careful to conceal any weak spots that may have been prominent in her rocky hide as she glowed with a faint light, signaling that her defense stat had been raised.

It was Surge's turn to groan as he saw the Geodude released in front of him. Many times he'd seen trainers bring Geodude and even Graveler into his gym, as most would capture one during their trip through Mount Moon. Rarely he could eke out a win with such a disadvantage, but those few wins usually came with less-experienced Rock/Ground type Pokemon. At least the kid knows his stuff, the gym leader thought grumpily as Keegan issued a command, Defense Curl. "Defense ain't gonna help this," Surge chuckled as he pointed at the Rock Pokemon. "Let's get 'im, Magnemite! Start off with a bang! Sonic Boom!" Surge knew the attack did set damage, and it wouldn't be a lot, but at least it could surpass Tierra's upped defense.

Magnemite continued to hum to itself, letting the sound grow louder and louder until it was almost unbearable to human ears. The Magnet Pokemon then spun rapidly on the spot, drawing all the sound waves towards it. All at once the gathered energy was released, and sent spiraling towards the Geodude.

"Tierra! Move!" Keegan cried, his ears still ringing from the sudden burst of sound. He quickly wondered why he even bothered saying anything, as Tierra turned slightly to look at him, the expression on her stony face clearly reading 'what for?' Magnemite's Sonic Boom rocketed across the ground and slammed into her, knocking her back several feet. A bewildered expression appeared on her face as she put herself upright again, and she narrowed her eyes at the offending Magnemite. Keegan sighed. If anything, taking the hit might have provoked her into fighting back. "Try your Rock Throw," he told her next, although he suddenly wondered where she'd find rocks to throw at her opponent. Tierra had other ideas, though, and to demonstrate this, she curled up into a ball and started rolling at a rather high speed towards the Magnemite. "Or Rollout, whatever works," the redhead sighed; suddenly wishing he'd sent out somebody else instead.

Tierra's disobedience didn't go unnoticed by Surge, and he smiled to himself. Perhaps he'd overestimated the Geodude, as it seemed the two were new to battling and working together. He didn't say a word as the rolling Geodude crashed into his Magnemite, creating for an interesting sound of rock grinding against metal. Steel-types were fairly resilient though, and even though Magnemite wasn't the sturdiest of Steel-type Pokemon, it seemed relatively unharmed by the attack. Both Pokemon and trainer knew that Tierra would be coming around to strike again, and each time the damage would be increased. Surge wasn't sure if Magnemite could withstand the force of each hit, especially if they were increasing in power each time, and he grit his teeth as his mind raced for a solution. "Supersonic!" the large man boomed, his voice reverberating from the walls and ceiling. Magnemite responded with a gentle humming, and suddenly stopped hovering, dropping to the ground in a hurry. The metallic body of the Magnet Pokemon rang with a resonating pulse, which seemed to radiate from the left magnet on its body. The air became distorted around it as the resonance traversed through it.

Maven looked up at Kasiya and thanked her for the help as they sat at the sidelines. She was still shaking from the introductions.
"I'm s-sorry Kasiya. I k-know I didn't m-make a good i-im-impression with your f-father." She kept her head down to keep her hair in her face, in her mind it was her shield that could protect her. She was inwardly cheering on Keegan but saw that his Geodude disobey and she groaned to herself silently. he can do it, he just can't let that disobedience shake him. If he does the battle is already lost...c'mon Keegan...I believe in you. She couldn't bring herself to use her voice to cheer her new red headed friend. She could feel herself still shaken up.

Maven could feel the two pokeballs at her side shaking against her. She brushed her hand passed them in a way to reassure her two friends that she would be fine. She continued to watch the battle through her hair.

"Not that!" Keegan grumbled, watching Tierra closely as she continued to roll along on the ground. He couldn't believe that a Magnemite was capable of making such horrendous sounds! He clamped his hands over his ears, knowing that once a Pokemon using Rollout started rolling, they wouldn't stop until they missed their target or something else stopped them, so he didn't bother trying to issue a new command just yet. He had no idea if the Supersonic had affected her or not, but as she gained momentum and crashed into Magnemite once more, Keegan became doubtful that she was confused at all. However, unless she started showing signs of confusion and injuring herself, they wouldn't know for sure.

"Don't worry about it," Kasiya told Maven gently. "Let's just enjoy the battle, all right?" She watched the Geodude with mild interest; she hadn't known Keegan had acquired a new Pokemon. She'd seen her dad lose to several of these before, so she felt confident that it would be able to take out his first two Pokemon, at the very least. "You can do it, Keegan!" she cheered, clapping her hands. "Show him what you're made of!" Many times she'd seen trainers crumble under her father's intimidating presence, and make mistake after mistake, ultimately causing them to lose the match even after most of them should have been able to win. Keegan seemed to have been able to overcome any uncertainties he may have had, now all he had to do was focus, and victory would be his.

"Lily! Cover Aska! Quickly!" Miharu called fearfully as she watched the small, grey fighter advance towards the shaken Pidgey. The Bulbasaur turned quickly, and upon seeing the eminent danger her partner was in, lashed out with one of her vines, wrapping it firmly around the Machop's waist. With a mighty pull, she heaved the Machop away from Aska, who had time to regain her composure and fly up into the air once more and out of harm's way. Her keen eyes saw the Graveler making a move towards her distracted teammate, and the sandy-coloured bird dove down, flapping her wings at a rather high speed to generate a blast of sand that was pushed towards the rocky Pokemon, obscuring its vision and causing the blow it was trying to land miss by quite a bit.

"That's some team work you've got going on," commented the hiker as his Machop picked himself up, its eyes darting from Lily to Aska as it tried to decide which Pokemon was a greater threat. At its trainer's command, the little grey Pokemon ran forward, raising its right arm high before it came down quickly, landing a Karate Chop onto the top of Lily's head. The Bulbasaur groaned from the force of the blow and staggered back, once again feeling the life-draining effects of her Leech Seed on the Graveler.
