Koko.Dk Vajra B. Hairava Hey, I'm from Colorado, and I say aunt as 'ant' too. In fact, most of the midwest does that. Not only Utah, you silly Donkey Kong. Koko's Minnesota friend burning_eyes DEATH TO THE BLASPHEMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How DARE he say that?! Minnesotans know how to ennunciate their 'i' sounds (fill, still, pillow...you get it). What we're known for is dragging out our vowels (Toooast and booooat, etc.) and the 'Yah, sure, you betcha' thing... and Utahns don't, pillow becomes pellow, Stell, and "ing" becomes "en" ... Uh, who's the blasphemer?

Just wanted to say a quick hello, and figured the chatterbox was the place to do it. Thanx to whoever invited me to this guild. I love languages, although I've never really had to time to learn much beyond High School Spanish. I am considering signing up for some Japanese classes this fall though.
It will take some time to read through everything and catch up with stuff posted around here. But perhaps eventually I'll have something interesting to add. mrgreen

I was a member on my other account, but on this one I'm not, so I haven't looked. If its alive, I'll join it probably.

Yeah, thats probably the problem. Us two have Japanese and Latin in common, Donkey Kong knows some silly dialect of Japanese, though I can't understand crap of what he says.
Hey Donkey Kong, you seem to be a connoisseur of Germanic languages. I've been thinking of picking up one. Which one would you recommend? The ones I've been thinking about were either Scots, since its so much like English that it would be humorously easy, or Dutch, since its pretty close to English, but different enough to be interesting to learn, or Icelandic, since its supposed to be so hard. I'd like something that would be close enough to English for me to be able to see some cognates, I like that for some reason, but widley spoken enough to be useful.(ish) But not German, way too typical. So far, I'm most strongly going for Dutch.

German, too typical? At least most German learners' reasons for learning German aren't "I wanna be able to understand Japanese anime and manga!" like most learners of one language I know...

I'm proud to say that I am one that studies Japanese, and does not watch anime or read manga. Don't judge me by the humongous masses of idiots who study the same language as me. The thing is, German just doesn't catch my interest as much. I'd be glad to learn it, but if I had the option, I'd rather learn something else. And I do have the option. German is one of the big high school language that hordes of unmotivated teenagers take. Icelandic is not. And besides, Icelandic is t3h pwnxorz. German also can pwn, but not as much in my opinion.

I don't think anybody in the guild is on as much as you.
