"You are not just the help, Mykorian, and you shouldn't let them always treat you as such. If that's the case then my parents are just the help as well. They work for my uncle and get paid and my father doesn't consider Malik a friend either." At least not by his way of speaking about it all. "Do you ever want to go?"

She was indeed learning and she kept experimenting, changing the pressure or length of time or even the movements she was performing on his ears. Sometimes she brushed two at once and sometimes she did a slow, leisurely brush just because. "He keeps looking at me like he expects something...or like he knows something." Which she didn't really like. "Did you talk about me last night?"

"It is hard. It's hard to understand why your father acts the way he does. It's also hard to come to terms with his anger over you trying to take care of your sister. Have you talked to him about it, Dhairiss?"

Mission accomplished. Taking her treats she smiled happily and nuzzled the fruit before tucking one awkwardly into a pocket as much as it would fit and then biting into the other one. Mmm peaches. They felt good, tasted good, and smelled good. A happy noise to praise as she was eating, quite content now and headaches not mattering. Though she did give an annoyed noise and a frown at little paws and she held her peach over her head. “No. Mine.”

“Find their food weakness and they’re perfectly content. At least for a while.” All three of those kids were honestly soothed easily by a favored treat for something they’d done well. Of course she had to poke fun at Malik. "And we all know that you just learn by leaps and bounds, even if your old age."

"Your family and their family had kids that grew up together and all kinds of other things. That makes you all more than the help, that makes you more or less family." But he shrugged. "I've never really thought about it. Never been so I don't know what I'm even missing."

Okay so she was figuring out the ears. Reaching up he took hold of her hands gently and entwined their fingers, beinging their hands down to rest in her lap, his arms snug around her body. "He just wants to see you further push yourself. My father wants the best out of people and he knows you have more in you than you're giving. Like with your paintings, he let other people see them to push you." Shaking his head, "No, we didn't. Save for how women and their secrets will forever be a mystery."

"We were kind of talking earlier before he called for you because I was hurting. We really didn't get too much solved. He told me I can give her all the replacement affection I think she needs, I just can't act like her father. I'm starting to not know the difference."

"None of their kids are my age. I was always the odd one out. Lyssie was closer in age to Dhairiss but I came shortly after Zykariel. It's all very strange. For every child my aunt had, my mother had two." She took another bite of the potato chip in her hand and then mused that over. "You'd probably really enjoy it."

She chuckled internally as she marked down on her mental pad that his ears were a good spot. That might help her when she finally decided to tackle this whole sexual intimacy thing. "I don't think it's my paintings he wants to see more out of me for, Khai. I think it has something to do with you." Studying their joined hands for a moment and then turning her head so she could see him. "You're happy, right?"

"That's not entirely your fault either, Dhair. Your father hasn't really been the authority figure in Savvy's life and he wants to jump in now and do it all. You've been around since she was a baby, she trusts you and wants to make you happy. Instinctively, she understands that Malik is her father and she takes his responses very seriously. And that can be helpful or hazardous. You're protective of her because you've helped her since she was a toddler. You just have to step back and watch how much you stop her from trying to do things. It's natural but eventually you have to learn to let them go. You let her fall, right?"

“Your mother is an overachiever.” Eating another sushi roll then and licking the taste of his fingers as he thought over it for a moment. “Why do you think I’d like it? They probably just talk about things that I wouldn’t be interested in or have anything to do with anyway.”

“I’m not talking about just paintings. I’m just saying it’s one of the things he’s trying to use to help.” He understood and not everyone would but that’s how it had always been. “Everything usually has something to do with me, you can say he pays a lot of attention to me.” Squeezing her lightly. “Very happy.”

“I want him to jump in and do it…I just don’t trust him to do it right. She doesn’t need to be treated like some little success. He can call her his daughter all he wants, but he still doesn’t treat her like one. Even Sevilin is capable of that. No offense.” Giving a frustrated noise and tugging at his tunic…he understood what his father had told him but he still wasn’t quite convinced all the way just yet. “I don’t stop her from trying things…I push her to them. Earlier I was trying to get her more comfortable with water and yes I let her fall. Kids fall, it’s what they do.”

"now now, you can share with him. he did his job to, and should get a treat from you for it."

before settling down and lightly resting his hands in a steeple while other food got brought out.

"you just missed a minor quake here, actually. nothing overly dangerous but all the same, I'll be sending someone to check it out. last thing we need is an unknown magma flow coming from someplace."

smirking at his wife.

"Yes, even I learn and learn well in my decrepit old age."

Faate gave a sharp crack of laughter at that and threw a potato chip at him. Her mother an overachiever...yes, she was. "They play poker. You like to win at things like that and if you're good, you can make quite the handful of steel in one night. They talk about us women if that helps?"

It was difficult trying to describe something about his father to him since she knew how much he idolized his father. "Sometimes I feel like I've disappointed him because you chose me. Like you should have chosen a stronger girl or someone better able to stand on their own two feet. Or maybe I'm just seeing things that aren't there." Because if he was happy, what did any of the rest matter?

"None taken. I'm inclined to agree with you. Although Sevilin isn't the one who had problems, that was me." She gave a nod and gently pulled his hand down well aware of what he was doing. "That won't help because you can't pull at the arteries and such inside." She nodded to his assessment and then folded her hands in her lap. "Exactly. Kids do fall and if you don't let them, they never learn what it's like to fall and be picked back up and deal with the hurt from it. And that really hurts them more in the long run because when they fall without you, they have no idea what to do." Quieting again, she sighed. "Perhaps it would be best if you took yourself out of the picture for a little while. Malikhai can keep an eye on your father and make sure he's not pushing Savvy too hard. And if I say anything to him, he'll stop in a heartbeat. You know that."

Daddy got a frown. “He has scraps. This is mine.” Pushing the little draitix off of her as he was pawing again. “Mine.” No really, this was hers. Thusly it was quickly turning into her defending against the little creature who was quite insistent to get a piece of her food. Eventually she gave him a piece but proceeded to pout. “Supposed to be mine…”

They of course sat down at the table to get to food, though he did watch his granddaughter all the same. She was quite inventive in the way she figured things out. “Quakes hm? Those are common down here, aren’t they?”

“I thought I felt something. But then I thought I was just being unstable again. Glad to know I was wrong.” Though speaking of quakes she gave a blink as the tableware started to give a rattle from new vibrations and another blink as Savryn was then clasped to her chair and trying to climb up into it. Piper calmed her a moment and plopped the girl in her lap to soothe her. Of course she wouldn’t like quakes. “I for one, hope that it is magma. That would be tame to most other reasons.” Smiling sweetly at him as she was petting at Savryn’s hair. “You have to be useful somehow.”

“Eh…I’m not going to try to but into that unless I’m invited.” Picking up the chip which was clinging to his tunic and duly popped it into his mouth, crunching happily. “I’m like you about those I guess. A loner.”

“Well, I don’t care what he thinks when it comes to you if he’s thinking things like that. I wanted and want to be with you and that’s all that matters. Believe me I’m sure I’ve done worse things than marry his exact criteria of a woman.”

“I know it doesn’t help. It’s a mental thing though, you know like loosening a belt. Takes my mind off of it.” Though it seemed Zahara was further going to agree with others that he needed to leave and get out of the picture. “And what if things get worse while I’m gone? Where it’s just mom who’s forced to take care of her all by herself again like when she was little?”

"It makes us-" she cut off as the house rumbled and shook and Faate froze in her tracks. She didn't like quakes, didn't like random noises, didn't like events like that that she couldn't hardly control. It came from being a pawn in certain things plans and not being able to stop it. Her fists clenched and her skin paled out about as best as it could.

If she was looking for certain assurance, she'd just gotten it. But then he was forever giving her that assurance. Her upbringing had taught her that she was worthless; Malikhai had taught her that she was special and worthy of being loved and cared for. "He probably just wanted an easier life for you. Life with me won't be."

"It will never be just your mother caring for your sister unless one of your parents kicks me out of her life again, and since I don't intend to kill her, I doubt that will happen." Zahara set an arm across his shoulders and tugged him to her side. "I consider you one of my own, Dhairiss and it's clear to me that you aren't happy and you aren't satisfied. What can we do to change this?" She frowned at another shake and sent a mental message to her husband to let her know if he figured out what was causing it.

He frowned as some things fell off their places on shelves and the like, making a nice mess that he would have to clean up. Though he was more concerned with Faate, pulling her over into his arms until the brief shaking was over. She never did like those. "It's just a little one."

"Easy is boring, and me being born is a bad thing. You make my life interesting if anythings and that's one of the fantastic reasons about you. He can try to make it easy all he wants, but women is one area that no man can control. We just like to think we know what we're doing with you all."

He gave a frustrated noise to her question. "I don't know. Everyone keeps telling me that it's the wanderlust and dad keeps telling me to step down from Savvy. But I can't just leave her." He spent a lot of time with his sister, showing her most of the things she was quickly accustomed to...what if she felt she had done something wrong to make him go away? "I really really don't know what to do."

Sevilin watched various little items rattle at the shaking before his head sparked with his wife's message making his ears twitch. No he hadn't figured anything out...mostly because he hadn't looked. Though he supposed now was a good time, especially with Kieran around. Thusly outside for him to see if he saw anything immediately threatening.

Malik frowned. that was not normal, however. three in a rapid succession. and not little aftershocks, those seemed to be actual separate small quakes. But it looked like Sevilin was going to check on it.

"they are more common then on a surface yes. but not this common usually."

a shrug at his daughter.

"You have a whole other peach. and he can't have any of that one, alright? I'll make sure of it."

Did not like earthquakes at all and she clung to Mykorian with a noise of irritation. "But it's not the first one, either. I felt that one earlier and that means that there is probably more coming..." Which didn't make her happy at all.

"Do I? I just thought I made your life more challenging what with my need to always be reminded of how much you care and whatnot. I know you hate it when I talk down on myself, but it's true Malikhai. I'm sorry it takes me so long to get things." A few more finishing touches and she set her sketchbook aside then reached out and began petting Yinn again. "I'm not that difficult to figure out. I love you and that's all there is to it."

"No, you can't. She means too much to you and you to her." It really was quite a dilemma. "Then you have to focus on changing your role. Be her lovable older brother who spoils her but leave the hard things to your parents. You shouldn't have to be the one to push her to experience water, Dhairiss. It's your father's job to teach her about the world and show her the bad that comes with the good. My children have a bad habit of trying to parent each other as well. That's not their job; it's Sevilin and I's. The same applies."

"Maybe we're just getting something from the surface. Whichever it is, I'm sure we'll figure it out." She just hoped it had nothing to do with what Delta had been vaguely talking about earlier. She gave a giggle however as their daughter took on that obstinate look that was all Malik's resemblence. She merely ruffled the girl's hair and gave the little undead draithix a scrap of her own food so he'd go off and chew on that.

"Probably." And if he was truthful then it was safe to say if this was a build up they were in for one of the big ones. Hopefully not the deadly ones, but big for sure. "No worries though, I'll keep you safe."

"It takes you a while but when you do learn the lesson, it sticks and you never faulter on it. That's the bright spot about it I suppose. Every woman is hard to figure out, whether she knows it or not is how she gets to us the most when she wants to. You're just more forgiving than most. But yes, things can be as simple as you say. That's the beauty in it."

"Would it be wrong to say I would be more afraid of him pushing her into the water rather than just letting her listen to it?" Hey, it wasn't impossible to think...it's how the boys learned to fight and what not. But another frustrated noise from him and he tugged at his tunic. "Okay enough counseling, we're getting nowhere. Is being lazy and content all that my cleric is perscribing?"

"Speaking of things. Where are the newlyweds. don't want them locked in their room all day. only me and piper are allowed to have the rabbit nickname."

chuckling lightly and giving the signal to one of the servants to fetch the oldest d'vinn son and his new bride.

"How is life treating the new and former royals on Andal. Is the new joint council thing working out?"
PostPosted: Tue Sep 01, 2009 6:28 pm

And his easy agreement didn't thrill her at all. She did find it sweet that he was at least trying to protect her even if they both knew there really wasn't a whole lot that he could actually go. Thus, he was given a kiss on his cheek and she snuggled into his arms. "Just distract me. That's all I ask."

She privately disagreed but could tell that saying it would only serve to annoy him so she kept it to herself. "I just can't stay mad at you. It's part of the reason that I married you." Her ears twitched as someone else came into the room and she quickly sat up and adjusted her clothing, just to make sure. And then they were given a message from her father-in-law. "I suppose we should be the good children and go downstairs." Obviously they were supposed to be sociable. Thus getting up and slipping into the bathroom to change clothes. Her husband still hadn't seen her naked...how strange was that?

"Not wrong, truthful." She didn't have any advice for him that he hadn't already come up with and she was only repeating what he already knew. "That's it. That and to stay off your father's angry list. He gets upset and that's only going to spike emotions all around. No emotional upsets, Dhairiss D'vinn. I mean it."

"I can distract you and I can remove you from the situation, like so." Thusly hauling her up into his arms so that she was off the ground and then by that theory of simplicity, was not in contact with periodically quaking earth. "Better?"

"It's the eyes as I hear it. No one can stay mad at me for long if I stare with these eyes." Promtly staring at her in playful fashion to make a point. Though a sligtht annoyed look to people summoning them. "Social mingling is ever important. At least when it comes to family." Thus letting her go and then getting himself dressed and presentable, waiting for her to finish before they both headed downstairs with Yinn following happily. "So, impromptu family visit hm? Didn't I just see you people?"

"Saw us yes, we're secretly stalking you." Smiling at his grandson before a laugh and focusing on food a moment later. Though he did have that observing look about it. Triple colored eyes turned to Malik however, "It's working quite well. You know there's always those old tradition bound naysayers but they can't deny how well things are working now that the kingdoms are sharing more fluidly between themselves and what not."

Her ears twitched as she was munching on her peach still, turning her attention over to where her brother's voice was and she gave a smile to him. He was up and that was always fun. Thusly he got a little wave of a sticky hand.

"Right, no emotional upsets and tell you if they don't stop when things are calmed down right? I can do that. Okay then oh loved cleric, who do you want to see next so that the focus may be off of me?"
