emcollin Shieloup Hey there fellow clarinettists!!! Wow...some of you got to start early... We only were given the opportunity to start playing instruments in the 7th grade. I am now in grade 11, still as much in love with the clarinet as I was when I started. Our high school doesn't have a marching band (not as much of a thing in Canada) but we do have a symphonic band, which I am in. Our music program rox!!!! This year our band is touring Italy & Austria performing and touring musically significant historical sites!! SOO exciting! And may I just say... who loves Vandoren reeds??? They rock xd omg!!! that's so cool!!...the only thing our band program has is every 4 years we go to New York and DC (nothing compared to Italy and Austria)...I've never even been out of the country also...Vandoren reeds are awesome...but I like Rico...they are cheaper and they still get the job done...I use 3 strength uggg... I hate Rico.. especially Rico Royales... they are sooo crappy... (no offense) Rico's don't really allow for a good tone at all... Vandoren on the other hand...I worship! I play on a size 4 Vandoren... with the difference in reed strengths for each brand, i could play of a size 5 easily if it was a Rico. No offense, they are the weakest reeds out there.

Satzuni I love my band director SO much. He's so funny, and so lighthearted! He can turn anything into a joke, and even make stupid jokes funny, lulz. He's a good sport, too. Like, the band sometimes makes fun of him, and like he makes fun of us (Sometimes as a full band, sometimes just as individual people). And if he thinks you're extra-special-awesome, you get a nickname, lol. But yes, enough about Mr. Helgert, I've been playing clarinet for only three years or so... But I've been told I'm good. In WSMA (Wisconsin School Music Association (A music solo/duet/trio/quartet/band competition)) I earned two gold medals in a competition two classes higher than normal... ...I also have a professional model Bb clarinet. It's a Buffet R13 Bb, with a gorgeous cherry hue... I love it... His name is Edward.... >> wowzers.. i have a Buffet E40 Professional model with a Vandoren B45 mouthpiece. I also have Vito Resitone... and another crap one which i will not say what it is because it was the one i started on. smile

So instead I just stuck with the crappy mouthpiece that came with the Buffet, and it works fine for me. My clarinet tutor (Been with him for the past three years.) got mad at me when my dad bought the mouthpiece because he just BOUGHT it, I didn't try it first~ lolololol. Mr. Dekarske isn't anywhere NEAR as fun as Mr. Helgert... But I'll admit that he's the reason I even medaled as WSMA

We love doing festivals. In grade 9 we went to cleveland, and last year we went to Washington DC. I think we go to New York next year. We try to participate in every festival we can, cuz we love it. There are alot around us too in Ontario. We also do the trips because a big part of our music course is music history, so like in cleveland we went to the rock & roll hall of fame cool It was awesome. And yeah, I used to play on ricos, but then when I went into high school I started on Vandorens and now I can't go back. They taste better, sound better and I find they last longer. I also play on 3s.

Wow, alot of you guys have really nice clarinets. Mine's....a yamaha???? lolz I know it's not wooden, although apparently it has a really nice tone quality cuz my conductor thought it was. Alot of my friends switched to wooden ones after a few yrs, but I haven't bothered. I have been playing on Clarice (yes, I named her Clarice whee ) for almost 5 yrs now and not a single thing has EVER broken or gone wrong w/ her. I think a wooden one is only a really good investment if you're planning on going professional, which I'm not (though alot of my friends are).

As I mentioned in a previous post, marching bands are pretty uncommon in Canada. In fact, I can't think of one that I know of. We're more into just like symphonic bands or whatever. I think it's also partially due to the fact that none of our schools have football fields lol, cuz football isn't as big here either. It would be TOTALLY awesome if we could have one though. OMG, who knows the movie Drumline? Omgz, we have watched that movie on like EVERY band trip we ever take, as well as in class when the conductor is away. We must have seen it at least 6 times. Its pretty much our official band movie lolz. But ya, cool pics, and cool about the tees. We get gear from our music dept (band sweaters, hats, sweats, tees etc). I have a hat and a tee, as well as the sweater that is part of our official band uniform that we wear in all our preformances. They have the school's music dept logo on them, and theyre super cute. I hear we may be getting new stuff this yr with our instruments on them xd And wow, I just wrote alot too lolz.

Hi! I go to Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School in Calgary Alberta Canada. Whee! I have been playing clarinet for.... 7 years.... And I love it. I am in Grade 11 and in my school's symphonic band and Wind Ensemble. I would be in the marching band if my school had one... biggrin I currently play on a Buffet R13 clarinet named Frederick. I also enjoy playing the Eb Clarinet in my spare time. I am also part of the army reserve band in Calgary, which is a marching band but in military style, not fancy style.
