ninja I was in charge of one of my guilds’ holiday avatar contest. I was wondering if I could get some input from you for picking the third place Avatar.
Quote:
The theme is "All That Glitters". Parade around in strings of twinkly holiday lights or pose as a glistening ice sculpture, it's up to you. Show off a holiday- or winter-themed avatar that makes this thread glow.

Avatar Story: "Hehe...a little help will be the best at the moment." Ade said to the person present in front of him as he is tangled up in lights. This year Ade decided to get into the Christmas spirit though he never thought it would be so much work or this dangerous. Forgetting he is under the mistletoe the person decided to plan a big kiss than actually helping the poor constantly morphing star. Ade was just in shocked just uttering the word, "Umm..." as he not exactly complaining though the help is still needed, as the person left leaving him still tangled up. What a wonderful cruel thing to do.
Theme: 5 Item Balance: 5 General Appearance: 5 Notes: Really liked the story behind the avatar. The avatar also fits the story and has character to it.
2nd -
Avatar Story: Fae of the northern lights; guardian of Santa's time portal
Theme: 5 Item Balance: 4 General Appearance: 4 Notes: Unique interpretation of the theme. Unique appearance. Some items don’t quite fit with the avatar (e.g. tea cup).
3rd - TBA A Theme: 3 Item Balance: 5 General Appearance: 5 Notes: This would probably be #1 in terms of avatar appearance. It is beautifully balanced. I’m not really feeling much glitter or glow from it though.
B Theme: 4 Item Balance: 4 General Appearance: 4 Notes: The story is nice and explains the items. Not really sure the snow or the kitten really fit though.
C Theme: 5 Item Balance: 3 General Appearance: 3 Notes: A bit too cluttered. Definitely gives off the sparkle/glow vibes though.
D Theme: 5 Item Balance: 3 General Appearance: 4 Notes: A lot of items don’t really fit together (e.g. bright blue belt). Definitely gives off the sparkle/glow vibes though.

Username: Avatar Story: Christmas in Australia can be tough- it's hot, so you're hot, and all the Christmas treats like chocolate fudge and rocky road and white Christmas gets melty; nobody wants a lovely hot lunch; if you put your tree too close to a window the light will reflect off the baubles and blind you, burn you if you touch it, if you turn the lights on they overheat, or the tree will straight up just MELT (we have almost exclusively plastic trees here, you guys. No pine trees. Not a thing); all the Christmas carols are about snow and Christmas sweaters are impractical; if you grow up in Tasmania, like your humble Em did, you're so close to Antarctica that it's only sunset at 9pm and you have to try and convince yourself that it's time to sleep so Santa can rock up; and mums and dads everywhere have to explain that Santa has ninja powers and wicked lockpicking skills to get into their fireplace-deficient house, which makes him sound like a freaking serial killer.
To an Australian, the average Christmas card picture is like some kind of weird Nirvana that other people experience- having snow, having it be cold enough to ENJOY hot lunch, having welcoming hugs be nice instead of sticky and smelly and gross- DO YOU GUYS KNOW WE DRINK EGG NOGG COLD?
Somehow, through the power of magic, or possibly hallucination after electrocution from a misfiring overheated Christmas tree light, IDK (if I plug my tree in, the lights scream. They wail. I'm serious.), Em has made it to a real winter wonderland! There's snow, warm boots, GLOVES, twinkling magic in the air, a real pine tree decorated outside, and a special present under the tree- I wonder what's in it?
((I really had to try and explain... the real impact that the 'standard' Christmas would have on someone who never had it or else the avatar wouldn't make sense. Like 'why are you so excited?'. So the story's a bit long- BUT I MADE IT FUNNY- so hopefully that's okay. Also I'm not kidding about any of the Australian Christmas stuff, that's all true. Laser baubles and all- our sun is very strong.))

Hmmm, I agree about C. I can see that C started off with a theme, but there's just so much "glitter" that the avi just disappears in all that; the wreath frame just makes the avi look even more cluttered.
I also agree about D. The items aren't cohesive with one another, and the sparkles seemed to just be there. It just really doesn't make sense. I hate to be nit-picky, but I don't think anyone would want to open presents out in the snow. Despite the avi's excited expression, it looks cold out there.
If B would've kicked the snow item, it would've been perfect. The kitten just add to the poshness of the theme: rich heiress and her animal friend. (Maybe Selina Kyle living it up with her latest acquisitions?) Not a whole lot of glitter, but the whole thing just looks elegant.
A kills me because the entire composition is perfect, but I agree the theme just isn't there. Instead of glitter and gold, I get ice and frost.
Overall, I'd ultimately go with B.

bigheart Thanks so much for all, my little Gaia family. *_* bigheart
❤ *_* Partner Guild *_*
Hello ^_^ and Welcome~ this is only a small Friendship Guild from friends to friends to help and have fun. ^_^
I'm so tired of all the glitches and lags in the normal Booty Grab Forum. ^_^° That was the first reason, to make a Guild. *smile*
Dear Tank owners, who wish to join Ask us only, if you like to help/help back. ^_~ We aren't a guild that tolerates people who don't help the glows of fellow guildies. Try to help from our text thread too. Don't forget, where the guild is, after posting your tank here *smile* (New Main, Mule and Mini Tanks Thread) Thank you. ^_^
Dear friends Even we all have a life outside of Gaia, most of us are in more, than one guild, like to play, or write on Gaia, it's possible to say hello here too, to share some love and have fun. ^_~ I say it so often, this is not only my guild, it's OUR FRIENDSHIP GUILD, like I wrote at the beginning. We have more, than just booty grab to offer, cause this is not only a BG Guild. ^_^
Hiya! Quoting three of the fabulous avatar creators and friends I know. blaugh
If you have the time, could I ask for some suggestions for improving the avatars below? Will post items later today!
More info:
The avatar versions will be voted on and the top versions submitted for a Project Companion Ticket. The ticket is being made in the memory of user Niamh Cuina, who made the original versions of the avatars.
I've offered the original avatars; however, a lot of users have expressed an interest in avatars that are very similar to the originals, but modified using newer items.
I'm open to all modifications/suggestions. For Niamh's Spirit avatar, I am particularly looking to add more details to the face and arm mods that fit the leg mods better.
Connor is one of Niamh's mules. He's Niamh's twin brother and his animal persona is that of a Siberian Tiger.

I'm having a bit of a hard time with this. I really don't understand why people want to use newer items.
I mean yes, the avatars are less expressive and more static than they would be using new items. But, Niamh had the option to use newer items and chose not to. She created them with that wide-eyed slightly blank expression and I don't mean any offence to anyone, least of all Tina, but it's sort of what i associate with her avatars more than what clothes they wear.
Possibly I have the wrong end of the stick though. *goes to make coffee and ponder*

You're not the only one who has suggested sticking to the originals (no modifications). I appreciate that there are a few users who want to stick to how they remember Niamh! Don't ponder too much about it! I am happy to hear everyone's opinions! biggrin
