(( Wait, isn't she staring at Xeiashi? ))

Bapp's gaze followed the boy's finger to an unmoving girl on the floor staring into blank space.
"Woah!! Holy sh-!" He exclaimed as he scrambled over to her side.

"It's a girl..." He looked up at the kid and raised an eyebrow.
"Is it okay to just leave her like this?"

Evelyn distantly realized Xeiashi was talking to her. She didn't full realize she was being talked about until a figure in a top hat, who she could have sworn she had seen before--in Barton, wasn't it?--realized that she was in fact female.

Evelyn moved her head up slowly to look at the pair. "He's dead...dead...dead..."

She realized two seconds later that it wasn't the smartest or nicest thing to say, but she couldn't think straight.

"Wha...oh...yeah...he is dead..." Xeiashi said before falling into a silence, his grief newly remembered.

Why did he die? Why did he needto die? ...I meant to be rid of him...but not in that way.....is everything I take for a constant turning into a variable? ...no, I'm not going to let it happen...

"...was it our fault?" he said quietly after a pause, completely ignorant of the nearby strange boy. "Was it our fault?!?!" he repeated, a note of hysteria intruding into his voice.

He could care less even if he did notice, he was too busy trying to get it all sorted out

Xeiashi's innocence in his grief struck her with a force she could never have expected. She pushed herself up and wrapped him in a hug.

"No, Xeiashi. Never your fault. Never yours."
She sounded strong in her words, but the wall of tears she was holding back spoke differently.

The agony. She had lost friends in the war. Many friends. Family even. But that was war. It was expected. But not now. Everything was going well. But now...no...

He silently contemplated Evelyn's words, finding some solace in the contact.

"Evelyn....thank you..." he said slowly, breaking the contact. "I need to sleep before I die standing...good night..."

Without a further word, he trudged back to his hut, alone save for a few small bugs that decided to follow him.

That night, he slept long and peacefully.

((wow...I'm not sure how I could have made that better...but I'm pretty tired myself, so g'night everyone))

Evelyn felt Xeiashi pull away and then watched him walk away. A new wave of depression fell upon her. Loneliness.

She turned and saw the man with a top hat and forced a big smile on her face. "Hey there! You're Bapp, aren't you? I've heard through the grape vine about you. Combat, right? Didn't you disappear for a while? Yeah...I think I remember hearing about that. It's nice to finally meet the man under the hat."

Evelyn felt slightly proud that not a trace of upset showed in her voice or face. She smiled warmly at Bapp and moved toward him so she would be able to hear him.

Shinichi smiled and nuzzled up to the other, hugging him tightly. Zain always knew how to cheer him up and knew just what to say to do it. The thought of his mother being with him finally and out of that city was the best. Pulling away slightly, he gave the other a soft kiss, lingering slightly before pulling away enough for air, smiling at the other.

”That sounds much better! I don’t want to go back to that city if they’re all going to just be the same way as before. I know you want to please your mother, but don’t you think it’s a little silly? I’ve heard talk from my mother that the king would never let you be heir because of your mother… I’m sorry, Zain. If you can change that, and chance the city, then maybe I’d go back.” He was just so glad the other was willing to reason and be with him.

His heart thudded in his chest fast as he leaned in to seal his lips over Zain’s once more, his tail wrapping around the other’s darker fin and held him close. He was content to just be by Zainire’s side instead of being at some city. Being by his companion’s side was home enough for him, and with his mother being there too, it would be even better.

The thought of not being king didn't sting him, so much as the comment about his mother. He winced slightly and glanced away from the other merman, jaw clenched. All of a sudden, he didn't like Shinichi's mother so much, even though she was only reflecting the general consensus of the cityfolk.

It wasn't always like this. People in all of the quarters used to say that Zain would be the ideal king, that they might even protest to have him at least instated as an advisor to his brother. Times, unfortunately, had changed, and though it may have been Zain's fault on some level he stubbornly refused to accept that he himself was to blame. It all started thanks to those stupid stories from the court about what he got up to with some of the other families' sons... he didn't know exactly which versions were the most popular, but unfortunately he couldn't say they were exaggerated THAT much. Some people had said it had always been in his nature to be a deviant, that people should've predicted it... and maybe they were right. Still, he hadn't deserved to have his private life aired where other people could see it. (Though that one time they'd done it beside the courtyard probably didn't help his case for privacy...)

Hehehe, actually, thinking back, it was so fun and thrilling he didn't regret it one bit.

Still, as far as he knew, his mother was a beautiful and caring person, not at all the seductress and witch that people called her. He was sure they were all rumours too, the things she'd done. (Then again, she'd confessed to murdering his brother, so could he really be sure...? No, no. Of course he could be sure. He was her son, after all. He knew her better than anyone. Everything she'd done was only for his good, and the good of the city.)

Thankfully, Shinichi pulled him out of his impromptu brood with a kiss that quickly grew deeper, hard and passionate, as Zain returned it. He felt Shin's tail wrap around his own, and he returned the bond, tightening his own coils until no machinery could have pried them apart. With Shinichi in his arms, his body pressed tightly to his, all other thoughts thankfully fled from his mind. Maybe Shinichi was all that he really needed, too.

December 10 ... the day after the explosion.

It was almost daybreak. The sea was particularly calm that morning, its waves lapping gently upon the long stretch of land, in contrast to the consistent swishing of metal that resounded through the deserted Training Grounds--or it might as well have been, with the lack of noticeable activity.

The sun slowly crept up to illuminate a lone figure, Coline, going about her usual drills. Nothing out of the ordinary. But there were only so many trident thrusts one could carry out before anyone could tell something was wrong. What it was, however, was anyone's guess.

Or was it?

Her arm soon gave in and the troubled recruit winced, inevitably losing hold of the trident in her hands. She slid down slowly, one hand shakily reaching up to rub at the stiffened muscle. It was as if the strain of all those hours dawned upon her just then, all at once.

Breathing heavily, Coline eyed the fallen weapon. Barely a minute had passed before she suddenly lurched forward, knees digging into the sand, to grab at her trident. As luck would have it, and much to her annoyance, her arm had decided it was not yet ready to cooperate; she managed a small stumble, and her face met the ground in a most ungraceful manner.

"Tch..." Coline said through gritted teeth as she meagerly pushed herself up. "It's... too early for this."

"Someone died? Who?" Bapp asked inquisitively.
He responded to his name shortly after he asked his question.

"Errr... Yeah. That's me." He scratched the back of his hat, struggling with how to respond.
Sweeping a lock of hair out of his eyes before looking back up at her, he stumbled a bit when she was right in front of him.

"D-Disappeared, huh...? I guess you could call it that." He said with a light chuckle.

It was hard to explain what happened to him during the period of his absence from the Order, thus he decided against it, until a time he was ready.

"I believe you know my name, fair lady, now, may I know yours?" Bapp said jokingly with a short bow.

"Oh, yes. My name is Evelyn. You can call me Evie, if you want." She couldn't help but giggle a little at his bow. It had been quite some time since anyone had bowed to her. Those parties and balls that lasted until sunrise...

Before she would allow herself to reminisce, she focused on the top hatted figure before her. "You've probably realized there's been a few...changes around the temple. Mainly the giant gaping hole where Professor Panda's study used to be..."

[Date: December 11th] [Time: 11:34]

Hyaku hadn't slept in days.
She was quite literally running on just Caffeinin.

Between all the burns, puncture wounds, broken bones, and
impalings upon broken bits of wood, her Eye of Asclepius was on the verge of going blind.

Half her medical staff was down with the same, too, as they'd been in the Library when the explosion hit.

Thank god for Meta. She'd... well, Hyaku didn't quite know what she did, but the girl seemed to have quite literally limitless energy.
Her skin was getting grayer, though, and Hyaku knew she couldn't keep it up much longer.

AH! That must be it!

The infected crystal could be what was giving her that power; Void sickness always had similar effects to what she was seeing. The feet and legs shaking, the greying skin, even the bursts of energy, all were common in the first stages of such.

And darnit, but that Evelyn girl was in bad shape. She'd need some serious psychological counseling after this. Oh god, Hyaku hoped she wouldn't need treatment for PTSD.

Ah... dang, these beds weren't all that comfortable. But the blankets were nice...

Dammit.
Hyaku sat up. She'd fallen asleep; she didn't have time for that, not with the bandaging rounds she had to do.

Meta sat over in the corner, mixing a poultice for Oz's infected leg. The bags under her eyes looked like she'd hid her stash of chocolate in them.

"Oh god, I fell asleep. What time is it, Meta?"
"About 11:30. I need to go distribute rations... Could you finish mixing this? I'll get Vayan to finish the wrappings, if you'd like."
Hyaku rubbed the crusts out of her eyes. "That'd be great. I'm not sure I can manage much more. You need to rest, you know, or you won't be able to purify the shards."
Meta grimaced. "I know, but this just needs to get done."
Hyaku nodded. "Be back here when you can, okay?"
"See you in a bit, then," she said, and walked out of the room.

"Oh for Goddess' sake, boys, come on! You're slower than creeping helbor! What am I paying you for?!"

When a male guard why he'd let in a suspicious-looking tabby catgirl with far too many shopping bags in, all he could respond was "Boobies....".

Really, all it took for Yokuan to get into near anywhere was to pull down her dress ever so slightly....
So it was no surprise to her that she got perfect directions through the Temple and up to the Infirmary with a swift application of aforesaid technique.
Ah, men these days.

"Move your behinds! Oh please, they aren't that heavy..."

Now, what had surprised her when she came in was the state of disarray this Temple thing was in.

{IN PROGRESS, WILL FINISH SOON. AUGH THIS IS TAKING SO LONG! I have to get back to schoolwork for now...}

((Err, Inu, Bapp isn't wearing a top hat anymore. He looks like this now.))

Bapp gave a blank stare back in response for awhile, before snapping out of his daze and scratched his chin.

"... Professor... Panda...?" He racked his brain trying to remember who that was.

I'll leave it for later I guess.

"I did see that gaping hole though. What happened?"

Her throat constricted at the boy's ignorance of who Professor Panda was. Of course, it's not like Bapp could be blamed. Professor Panda stayed in his study. Just like he stayed in his study that day...but if he hadn't...maybe if she hadn't yelled at him, he would have come to the library that day...and everything could have been avoided...

"Professor Panda is the Spellcasting Master. Er--was. Is. Was..." Evelyn shook the metallic feeling in her mouth off and continued. "The official story is that one of Professor Panda's experiments caused the explosion. The rumor mill has quite a different story though..."

((Reserving a post here for later. I'm a little confused as to what's going on. All I know is that Alexi and Total were in the office in the infirmary when the explosion happened, and now they're both under a desk in the wreckage.))
