"The house has a garden? We might need a hose then, or a watering can?" Nathan giggled, grinning at both Mao and Tatsuhiro. "Laundry day is going to be fun, and if it rains we have to bring it all back in!"

"You can have anything you want in that house. It has a pool too in the back and there are at least three floors."
Mao was really not paying much attention to their conversation. He glanced over and looked at them and sighed. "I don't know what good you'll be," he told Tatsuhiro. "You can't work so there won't be any money coming in from your end."
Tatsuhiro gave him a half glare and then sighed. "Just because I can't work now doesn't mean a thing. I have enough money saved up to buy a whole damn city. I just have no need for that sort of thing."

Nathan waited. He didn't want Tatsuhiro to think he'd accepted him just because he had a house for them all to live in. Mao and Yoru would - hopefully - know that already, but Tatsuhiro didn't necessarily know him that well yet. But he didn't know what to say to the new conversation, so he waited.

Mao just shook his head and looked down at Nathan. "It's up to you I guess. I don't believe him."
Tatsuhiro felt insulted and embarrassed in front of Nathan. He knew obviously that he was telling the truth but Mao seemed to have more power and influence here.

Nathan walked to stand in front of Mao arms folded and expression blank. "Is there a particular reason you don't believe him, Mao?"
I have to ask. I know what I think, but it has been proven that I can be far too trusting for my own good.

"Because I just don't. He lies and cheats. I know that for a fact."

"Ok." Nathan turned to Tatsuhiro, expression still blank. "What do - did? - you lie and cheat at? Poker, some kind of gambling?" he paused, looking into Tatsuhiro's eyes. "I doubt you'd cheat at love, especially given the way we spoke earlier, but Mao knows you in a different way to the way I'm starting to know you..." he explained, voice soft.

Tatsuhiro was angry now and even more so that Nathan too was now doubting him. "He only says that because I lied to him once about the reason I was leaving. I didn't tell him I was being dragged into becoming a necromancer and now he doesn't like me because of what I am. That's it. There's nothing more to it than that. I don't lie to anyone though. That was the only time. I never lied to you nor to Kyo nor to anyone else. But apparently that's what people don't like about me. I tell the truth always and that's not normal apparently."

Nathan shook his head. "Tatsuhiro, you weren't listening. Or I said it wrong, which is possible: I don't doubt you're telling the truth. I merely wanted to find out what you would lie about, if anything. Because there's a difference." He smiled.
"There's a huge difference between an acceptable lie and an unacceptable one. An acceptable one, to me, is lying to protect someone else. If I had to, I'd lie to any of you about, for example, Chessy. Why? Because he's my little brother and I love him. Like, I'm guessing, you lied to Mao to make sure he got away safely. Am I right?"

"He knows if he were to have gotten in the way my dad would had ripped him to pieces. But he likes to act like it's only what he wants that matters. I know I was a burden to everyone anyway. Since I was born I have always been destroying everything I touch."

Nathan strode forward and gently kissed Tatsuhiro's lips, cradling his face as he did so. "Thank you for saving him. I might never have met him or you if that had happened... and I couldn't protect him seven years ago, so I am very grateful to know someone could." he whispered, hoping the kiss conveyed his trust of Tatsuhiro, his gratitude that both Mao and Tatsuhiro were alive and well.

Tatsuhiro sighed and shook his head. He couldn't really be mad at Nathan. "Fine. I really do have tons of money saved up. It's like I said. I have no use for it."

"I believe you. Mao... I don't know. Things are kind of rough right now..." Nathan explained, voice soft but audible. He didn't want Mao to think he was whispering behind his back.

"If you trust him then you must know what you're doing," Mao replied. He wasn't too happy with this whole thing but he had trust in Nathan and if anything happened he'd be there to help him.

Nathan smiled, almost chuckling as he looked from Mao to Tatsuhiro and finally focused on the flowers around them. "I don't know what I'm doing, but... I understand him."
Then he turned to Tatsuhiro. "That doesn't mean I want or intend to ask you for money, unless I'm borrowing it, in which case that means I pay you back properly." he shrugged and smiled again. "Just how I am."
