"I've been told I did, but that they all died in an accident," Jake said. "An older sister named Sanvi, and a twin sister named Hanyuu." He smiled a little, sadly, at the memories of them. "Then again...Sanvi also supposedly died in a battle..."

"It's fine," Shane said. "Dad told me...Hanyuu knocked me out of the way...and sometimes...it's like I can sense Sanvi's magic..." He hadn't told her that shortly after the accident, his parents abandoned him and brought him to this village.

"It was at first, but...oh!" Jake said. "You don't know about my magic, do you? It's purification. I purified the memories so it wouldn't hurt as much. I can do the reverse as well, but on larger memories, it often leaves holes or adds 'noise,' which can be strange. Usually it shows up as a spirit in the background or an extra tree or something."

"Yes," Jake said. "Master uses my magic a lot, for his own purposes. I've gone further than normal on several occasions because he ordered it, so far as to suppress or even destroy several of miss Kisa's memories...oh, lord. You can't tell anyone I just said that, okay?" He would get in trouble for it.

"I can't say for sure," Jake said. "He wouldn't permit me to pull the memories into my mind. Purifying them inside Kisa's mind was difficult, and I remember her being in pain...she wouldn't remember any of it, purely because she was bordering on unconsciousness."
