*Tavin fairly beams at the news*
You're such a fast learner! That's absolutely WONDERFUL Maggie!!!! I'm so very proud of you! You'll be reading up a storm in no time! I'm so glad. Once you get to the point where you need some starter books, just let me know. I'll be glad to bring any that you want, okay?

*shakes her head at Van der Mullen and his continued rudeness, quite content to return the favor of ignoring him*
*turns back to Tavin and bobs her head up and down, blushing now from the praise* Aye, I'll let ye know. Thank ye. I'll keep working at it. *smiles* I've been practicing what ye taught me, as well.

I'm glad to hear it, Maggie. And tell me.... What have you managed on your own so far, with practice?

I was able te bring in a toy horse of Will's. 'Twas tiring, but I didna feel quite so poorly right afterwards as I had the time before.

I'm glad to hear it! You went from an apple to a toy horse with less downtime. Would you like to give it a go again?

*pauses, then nods* Aye. I feel a bit less nervous about it with ye here, in case I make a mistake in going about it.

*Tavin smiled and nodded*
Do you still have that coin I gave you?

*looks at him, puzzled* A coin . . . ? *frowns in concentration, scouring her memory to recall when that might have occured*

*Tavin nods solemnly*
That's right. A coin from your time. What was it called again? The ones people paid for drinks and such with?

A shilling, ye mean? Or a sixpence? There are a few different types of coins in my time . . . *still struggling to recall when he might have given her a coin*

That's it! A shilling. Just like the ones that you had at home. Think about it. Remember.... It was an old shilling, with a deep gouge in it from the outside going in towards the center. It was covered in small scratches from so much use, it no longer shined. Close your eyes, Maggie and picture that coin. Picture the gouge and the scratches. The way that it lays there, dull.

*closes her eyes obediently, trying to picture the coin as he describes it in the hopes that it will jog her memory*

Just concentrate on it. Concentrate on the coin that I just said. Picture it in your mind, and bring it to you. Right into your hand where it belongs. You've seen so many of them, you know well the feel of it in your palm, the weight of it..... The way that it looks.... Picture in your mind the large scratch starting on the outside and moving raggedly towards the middle, plain as day. You can feel it as you run your finger over it.

*focuses intently on the image in her mind, raising her hand and pressing her fingers together as a coin flickers into existence between them*'
*opens her eyes and stares down at the dull and scratched coin in her hand, lowering herself into the nearest chair as the dizziness hits her, paling - though not as much as previously*
*turns the coin over to examine it, then holds it out for Tavin to inspect* Is . . . this it?

*Tavin grins from ear to ear*
How would *I* know? I never gave you a coin. I just now gave you a description of the coin. The rest you did with your own power.
