Five beers and absolutely no buzz later, Pietro stood up and stretched. Having a slave was nice, and even if they did lose (not that they were going to, but it was nice to have contingency plans) he could always command Morgan to battle his new masters to the death so that he might get out of it.

What to do if they won though... Pietro hadn't thought about that yet. He cared nothing for Wanda's little friend, but he wasn't sure how to address his sister at all. On the one hand he might be able to be sure for a few moments at least that she wouldn't kill him, but at the same time, the small shreds of conscience he did have didn't feel like anyone in their family had any further right to put Wanda in any form of captivity.

He pushed the thought aside for now, and did what he did best. "Slave, clean these, I need to go dress properly for my next bout!"

Pietro zipped away in a blur, leaving Morgan confused for a moment until he realized that he was now holding Pietro's swim trunks in his hands. He screamed in horror.

Her eyes were only closed for about five minutes before she realized that her cell phone had just went off. Dread filled her stomach as she reached for the phone and her eyes started at the little blinking red light that signaled a new message. She listened, closed the phone, and moved to the window seat and watched the water letting the message sink in. The phone remained in her hand as tears started to form in her eyes.

Ev... It's Dawn... Dad is really sick again. Come home... please. Have to go... mom won't let me call you....

After kicking a dent in the wall out of frustration, she flipped the phone open and made flight arragements back to New York. So she sat and watched the people outside from her window. Reality had come back to her world. At least everybody else could play. It was lonely up there.

"Give me ten minutes, tops. Please, ma'am," Jacen said to Kim as she hurried about getting her things ready. And with that, he bolted down the hall to his room. When he rushed past one of the closed doors, he heard a loud crash, and felt a veritable wall of negativity...but it wasn't like most others. This was strong....ceaseless, almost. "...Evelyn?.....Dammit, I don't have time for this," he said as he rushed down further to his room.

When he got to his room, he found his things lying on the floor; his cloak, the uniform that Magneto had given him, and his weapons...the gauntlets.

"She didn't mention what the peril was....so, I'll take these anyways." Absently, he just packed his uniform and weapons before realizing something....he was about to just jet without saying one word to Evelyn, and there was no time for a goodbye at all. Quickly, he looked around the entire room he shared with Porter until he found a solitary piece of paper and a pen. Almost as soon as he found those, he hurriedly scrawled a note out.

*****************************************************************

With his bag over his shoulder, and a fresh shirt on his back, Jacen picked up the letter he wrote and his sword and walked back down the hall. When he stopped at the same door he heard the commotion from earlier, it was eeriely quiet. He contemplated knocking on the door to say goodbye, but he heard Kitty yelling some more about wanting to leave. "Damn," he said as he set the katana still sheathed down in front of the door with the letter sitting wide open for everyone to read....though it was meant for Evelyn's eyes only. Time wasn't on his side for this venture.

Rapidly, Jacen knocked twice on Evelyn's door before heading downstairs to meet up with the other two. It was time to go to work, it seemed.

Jamie jumped when he heard Penny kick the wall. Of course, he didn't know what it was when he heard it, but he went off to find out what it was. He finally found Penny in her room looking out the window, and he saw the dent in the wall. As he walked in, he glanced at the note Jacen had left, and seeing that it was for Penny, he picked it up and brought it in without reading it.

"Hey, Penny? Something wrong?" He asked her, looking mildly worried.

"Thanks," She just about whispered when Jamie handed her th enote from Jacen and the katana. She held the sword in her hand and gave a faint smile before reading the note.

Evelyn,
I'm sorry this is so abrupt, but I have to leave. Something has happened, or is happening to my sister. I haven't been completely informed about the situation, so again, I head off blindly. I honestly hope that me not saying goodbye isn't too much for you....I wish I could, but I honestly don't have the time.... And for this vacation, I thank you. You've helped me realize that I'm most definitely not the only one who believes in honor and commitment. Evelyn, I will always cherish this small amount of time we've had together so far, and I will always cherish you. This katana I bought, I had absolutely no intention of keeping for myself. I bought this for you. And know, that as long as you have this sword in your possession, you will see me again. Promise. Take care of yourself, Evie.....until we meet again.

Jacen

"Until then," She said and put the note in her pocket. Take care of yourself, Jacen. Don't make me have to come rescue you.

She looked at Jamie with a few tears still glistening in her eyes, "Jamie, do you remember when my dad fell ill in the fall?"

He nodded, "I think so."

"He's really sick again and I don't have much time left. I need to go back to New York. Will you keep this for me while I'm gone? I won't be more than a week or two. I'll meet you all back home." She put her hands over his and entrusted him with the katana Jacen gave her. Grabbing her bag, she walked out of the door with him to find Regina.

Pulling Regina aside, she explained the situation. Regina gave her a hug, "You sure you don't want me to go with you?"

"Yes," She nodded, "You enjoy yourself. I'll call you and let you know what's going on."

"What about Jacen? Do you want me to say-" She started and walked Penny to the front door to catch her cab.

"He already had to leave," Penny was sad about that, the lack of goodbye. But it would be okay. She was pretty sure that wasn't the end of their path. After giving Regina another hug and a faint smile, "Enjoy Jonothan. Don't do anything I wouldn't do."

"Well that leaves the door wide open," Regina tried to smile as Penny left the beach house.

Regina sighed as Penny got onto a bus headed to the airport. Feeling pretty lonely she went back to the living room and plopped in the chair she had sorta designated as hers. Everyone was still watching the movie in happy dazes on the floor and all around the living room.

Gen seemed to have calmed down and was leaning against Bobby's legs while idly talking to teagan about random bits of the movie. Blair appeared to be making eyes at Dani now so Regina was glad to see one conflict slowly getting worked out. She missed Jonothan though.

~Wonder when he'll be let back...~ she thought, and settled in for a relaxing evening. One where she didn't have to cook or clean... but that she wouldn't have anyone to talk to either.

"Let's get started. I want to enjoy my slave as much as possible," said Freya before getting on the court. She seemed pretty psyched about this game and she didn't show one sign of weakness when she summoned back her whole spirit team.

Wanda was concerned about her pushing herself too much but also about the fact that if they lose, she'll be the slave. By the way Pietro was treating Morgan, she didn't hope for a better treatment and was already planning to put poison in his food. Though just her in a kitchen was enough to poison anything that would get out of there...

Porter was told to stay out of this and provide refresments for both girls during their pauses. He didn't seem to care and sat next to the court side, ready to serve the first drinks.

The game started very well for the magicians. The score was already 8-5 for them thanks to the combination of Efreet's strenght and Aura's light speed. Her speed matched Pietro's perfectly and that seemed to bother him a lot. Also John's fire couldn't do much damage because of Efreet: she was absorbing everything he threw at them and was immediately cooled by Shiva's frosty smash. But no one noticed that Freya started to already look less alert.

"Mreow. Good kitty." Teagan teased, scratching behind Gen's ear before looking back down at her plate and finishing off her supper. She took a final sip of her drink, looking back up at the TV to catch some of the movie. She chattered with Gen about some parts, laughing at other parts.

She looked at Gen again, letting out a purring noise before bursting into a fit of giggles.
"I'll be back, I'm gonna put my plate up and then take a shower." She said, ruffling Gen's hair before dropping her plate off in the sink in the kitchen and disappearing upstairs.

"Are we all here?," Jacen asked Kitty when he got to the van.

"Yea!," she asked all annoyed-like. Apparently, young Katherine had no patience at all.

"I'm....sorry I had to keep you all waiting....I...had....something to do," he said kind of quietly as he jumped into the back of the van, finding his way all the way to the back.

"Oh, no problem at all, though we're probably now fifteen minutes later than projected," Kim scolded. Something was amiss here, Jacen could sense it. He knew that this teacher and himself didn't get off on the right foot earlier, but now she was just being out and out rude.

"Hmph....," Jacen huffed, as he folded his arms and looked out the window. In no time at all, the nice, humbling, majestic, and never-to-be forgotten beach were out of sight, as was another vehicle. He blinked once....then twice, then felt a weird feeling in the back of his mind. A feeling that slunk into the back of his chest like a creeping mold. He had been in a few relationships, but this...this was the first time he had actually felt saddened by having to depart.

When he realized that, he smiled a bit and said, "....Wow..," kind of quietly. Then, his smile faded when he re-focused on the task at hand. It seemed that he was able to turn 'it' on with a switch. It being, the ability to go from human to combatant in the drop of a dime. Although something about this whole situation bothered him. There was something wrong. Especially with Anna.

Jacen did tell Anna that they were related, but as one might assume, it was shrugged off with denial. That wasn't too easy to comprehend, considering who he was working for at the time when they first met. After that, he stopped noticing her every once in awhile at school, and especially when the X-Men were around. She was nowhere to be seen, now this.....

"....Listen....," Jacen said, "There is something that I need to know, and I think that you know, Madam." He was, of course, talking Kim. "There was something that Anna told you....something that's got you spooked or worried, or whatever."

"You seem quite sure of that."

"Well, it must be serious if you ducked off like that to finish your conversation."

"Eavedropping, are we now?," she said, somewhat scathingly (alliteration...it's great. ^^)

"No, being to slow to answer a damn phone!," Jacen said, matching her attitude. Willfully or not, Jacen was getting a bit irate at this lack of information, or cooperation for that matter.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 19, 2005 12:02 am

Kitty swerved a little heavily around a corner and Kim held onto the rail above her head.

"Whoo! This thing can corner, alright! Yeah!" Kitty declared with glee. In response to this, Kim snapped at her while doing up her seatbelt.

"Don't drive so fast, Kitty, we don't want to get pulled over!" and then she added sensibly, "Besides, this task requires us to be alive at the end of the journey."

Jacen probed her further for information. "Are you going to at least tell me what's happening with her?" He had a serious look to him, and it was obvious he was going to be pissy and obnoxious until he'd got the information he wanted. For the sake of prosperity, Kim decided to give him the basic details.

"Anna's Dad called her a while ago, while she was staying at the Institute. Apparently he was checking up on her, making sure she was safe, because he'd had some rather unpleasant death-threats sent to him unless a large sum of money was deposited to the people in question. But that's not your business right now."

Despite the look of irritation in Jacen's eyes, Kim stayed stoic about the details of Anna's father's problem. He was coming with her to see his Sister. Anna hadn't asked for him, nor had she asked for Kitty. It wasn't their place to know the situation to it's fullest.

"The only thing you need to know is that Anna went up to her father's home to protect him from whoever was threatening him and his wife. And it had worked for a while, noone had seen hide nor hair of these guys. This morning, however..." Kim exhaled deeply, regrettedly. "Someone tried to break into the house and shoot them. He'd got off a non-lethal shot before Anna could take him down. Now she's freaking out completely because not only has she taken down one of her dad's enemies henchmen, but she's afraid the police will get involved and charge her with manslaughter."

"But her Dad is okay?" Jacen said calmly.

"Yes, barely a flesh wound, so I'm told. But we have to be quick to get there, so I can help sort this mess out." Kim lurched forward when Kitty squealed the tires around another corner. "Kitty, cut it out, or I'm driving!"

"Sorry! This van is just too awesome!" Kitty chimed from the front. Kim rolled her eyes to Jacen hopelessly, with almost a faint smile. Remembering something, she checked the holster at her right hip.

"With luck, I can sort this issue out sans violence. That would be the ideal plan..." as she spoke, she drew a menacing looking Desert Eagle and checked the clip. "But if it turns ugly, which I'm anticipating, more muscle may be required. Anna can handle herself, what about you?"

"Ok we're behind... but that's hardly an issue..." Pietro said to his team. He was actually sweating, trying to keep up with the light element. He turned to Victoria and nodded at her. They'd been planning for this.

Pietro jumped to intercept the ball, and with what seemed like unnecessary strength, SLAMMED it down with his arm. That damned light demon still managed to intercept it, and Efreet slammed it back down on the Brotherhood's side, resulting in a score of 9-5. Unfortunately for Wanda and especially Freya, that move had never been intended to score a point.

When Pietro slammed his hand down, his arm broke the sound barrier for just a moment. The small sonic boom that would have formed should have been enough to hurt the ears of anyone nearby... except that Victoria confined it before it had a chance to hurt anyone. Subtly, she moved the boom from the top of the net, to directly behind Freya's head as the Brotherhood appeared to struggle. Victoria smiled... she was usually timid, but she was obviously enjoying the competition. She also liked using her powers for a change... and didn't have a problem releasing the boom right near Freya's ears. The boom wasn't strong enough to do any permenant damage, but it was sure strong enough to leave Freya's ears ringing for the next several minutes. It also made her elements scream in what seemed like pain as she lost concentration on them for a moment, allowing the Brotherhood to score a quick point.

And yet, this display was invisible... only the most skilled of senses would be able to tell exactly what had just happened, and the only girl with those senses was already on her way out of town.

"Sans violence?," Jacen questioned, "Since when have people like us been able to resolve issues like this without violence?" He thought for maybe a second before coming back with, "Not very often."

"Anna can handle herself, what about you?," Kim had asked while she brandished a rather menacing looking .45 calibre handgun.

"Of course," Jacen said with a smirk, "Didn't go through intense tactical, survival, and combat training just to put it all down on my resume." With that, he opened up his bag and slowly slid the left hand gauntlet on. It chimed up with a low whirr, then looked have a couple of the lights blink. When that happend, Jacen felt something odd pulling at him. Would these not work properly now since Ahab had to go and mess with him?

As he put his right gauntlet on, he looked back up at Kim who was watching him through the visor mirror. "Yea, I wouldn't worry about it, ma'am," Jacen said, "I'm pretty sure whatever is going to get thrown our way will be easily handled. Besides.....if I'm to assume all of this is going on...I can only guess it's being perpetrated by humans....."

Recently, Jacen had met a few flatscans that had intrigued him in that they didn't readily dismiss him as just a mutant, and actually been rather kind to him. That didn't happen often. But, even though a few people had gone out of their way to be friendly, that didn't mean he liked humans now.

He sneered for a second, remembering how quickly that girl in Russia turned on him. One moment she was his friend, the next she was wanting him dead. And the angrier he felt, the more of a yearning he felt to unleash some sort of destruction on anything and everything....

"Ok," Jacen said as he slipped his gauntlets off, ".....I can't have those things on until we're ready to get to business....." He was right too. He could feel himself falling deeper into a web of depravity when he had his weapons equipped. Almost as if he were going to go back to being a Hound.....

"Hrm?," Kim asked him, still watching him it seemed from the visor mirror.

"It's...nothing," Jacen commented as he zipped his bag back up. "I'm just anxious to get this over and done with."

Gen couldn't help but giggle. "I'm not kitty. That's her over there." she replied pointing to shadowcat. "But I don't mind playing the part for friends." ending with a purr right back to Teagan as she left the room.

~I think I can do this... being part of a group. yeah...~ Gen thought, closing her eyes and drifting into an easy snooze.

Regina grinned at the banter. The movie was almost to the end and she wondered how much longer people were going to chill. Or would they go out to watch the new match between Pietro and wanda... Thinking that was an interesting prospect, she headed outside to watch the game herself.

Victoria was having the time of her life. Being on the beach with a truck load of cute dudes, volleyball and no adult supervision was the perfect combonation for fun in her book. And having Morgan as a slave for a day was pretty neat too. Normally she wouldn't condom the harassment of another human being, but as long nothing other then pride was hurt, it was OK. Afterall, it was all int good fun right?

The first game had gone well, but this time she was mildly concerned. The other team's leader, Wanda, seemed like she could knock all of them into the hospital. And that was without using her powers. She put that thought out of her mind as Pietro slammed the ball down causing a sonic boom, which she in turn, contained and flung across the net. It exploded behind Freya's ears, making her loss consentration just long enough for the Brotherhood to score again.

Now she was smiling like an idiot now that the score was abit closer, 10-6, the magican's lead. She looked over at Pietro, who didn't look the least bit worried and then took a step back. Assuming another battle ready stance, she waited for another opportune momet to mess with the other team's head.

Everything outside was so small. At least twenty different emotions went through Penny's head as she stared ou the window. Mostly, she felt alone. It was strange to her that she felt so alone when for the better part of the past five or so years she had done her best to make herself independent and solitary. Actually being part of Xavier's school for the past year made her appreciate having a support system. She would have given anything to have Regina with her... or most especially Jacen. She felt guilty about that because Regina was her best friend. Jacen was something else.

Girls shouldn't play with sharp objects. That was the first thing he had ever said to her. Thinking back on that fight, she knew that she was attracted back then for different reasons than she was now. It started mostly as a facination like people have with the Hollywood bad boys. You know they're bad news but just can't help but want to see more. Little girl my a**... Was her reply. Anna had to stop that fight... Anna... where did you go?

Her mind stopped wondering when the flight attendent gave her an almost flat bottle of soda. Penny nodded in thanks but didn't say anything. Her mind started wondeirng back to her family. Her dad... she finally made amends, finally forgave him. Was he not able to handle her mutant genetics? Did her genetics make him reject the marrow? Was it something else? She felt responsible like she cheated her sisters out of something. But it wasn't her fault... that's just life.

Should have let Regina come too. There would be a shoulder to cry on. But that wouldn't have been fair. It wouldn't have been fair at all. But that's Penance, holding all her pain herself. That's Penance.
