Spica will exaggerate anything about James because she wants so desperately to love him, but can't.
Al doesn't like James because he's his brother, and Al is the child who's usually ignored because James is in the spotlight.
Everything in the AU we said about James was in character. Characters have bias, too.
Cait, I love you lots. But you have to realize that no matter how hard I try, Spica can't love James. You try dating someone who dated your older brother, claimed he loved him more than anything, and NOT feel like a ******** replacement.
First of all, Cait, I feel like a replacement. Do you remember WHY James and Spica got into a relationship? You grabbed her. Yeah. That's right. In the Drama thread. You said that you needed someone to pair James with after Teddy.
I thought we were joking. Godiva's middle name is Supercalifragaliciousexpialidocious, for goodness' sake! I didn't know you were actually going to make her.
I went with it because I didn't want to hurt your feelings. Haven't you actually read the James/Spica stuff? It's so forced, even in character.
There's no way they could have worked. I'm sorry. Spica has the lowest self-esteem in all of my characters just from being in a relationship with James.
I'm going to tell you something.
I asked Kate to make Samantha because I like James and I don't want him to get the shitty end of the relationship. I didn't want to directly break up with James because I knew that'd hurt your feelings. But it seems I did anyway.
And if you think it's just because I'm an assface who's shitty to all her friends, fine, think that. Because I do. If you think you're the only one who feels bad about this, go back and look how many times I tried and make James/Spica work.
Sorry for being a shitty friend, but you should know that people who create characters can't necessarily control them.

That doesn't make you a bad friend, Janine - some pairings just don't work. And Spica WAS just a replacement - even an outsider such as myself could see that from the start, and Spica doesn't deserve that at all.
What people need to keep in mind about roleplaying is that, when writing for characters, we are PLAYING a ROLE that - if done PROPERLY - we have no control over. Like Percy.. he wants NOTHING more to do with Oliver, whether Tyler and Vivi are friends or not. I'd never get an abortion, but Hermione fully intends to... 'cos she's not me. A characters' feelings are not our own, and though we might be able to feel through them on occasion, they are NOT us.
James always wants to kill himself. @@ He needs therapy, not a 'bounce back' girlfriend.

Oh God. I was posting in the midst of "********", because I didn't neccesarily realize exactly what was happening. It was a quick slap in the face to me.
Right. I got misguided after a while. Spica/James is a rebound couple, I just didn't see it at the beginning. Perhaps because I get so utterly close to some of my characters, I take their bias and thus fall victim to the problem of being a shitty friend as well.
@Nazzy; "A characters' feelings are not our own, and though we might be able to feel through them on occasion, they are NOT us." That is exactly my problem: I take my characters' emotion far too seriously.
@Janine; I always thought more of James being in the shadows, because Al's just like Harry. And I love you too. I was blinded by the "OMG, Teddy/James =Also, I'd prefer you hurt my feelings if you're being honest. In the future, can we please be blunt to the point of ripping souls apart?
You aren't a shitty friend. The Al/Spica evolved out of nowhere, just as James/Spica did, and I had no right to get mad over it. If anyone's the shitty friend, it's me, because I took this way out of proportion.
@Nazzy; I think Cass/Godfrey is gonna get him some for Christmas. xD
