@Proto: OH MY GOD. But I cannot condone people who denounce others simply because of a lack of 'natural talent'. If only people with natural talent focused on those areas we'd still be in the Middle Ages. Lol. *is quite proud of her success story of drawing humans in school for 5 1/2 years now and getting much MUCH better* >_>; although i'm still probably not as good as your mum, but still : D
@night: Even schools in Hong Kong aren't like that. I don't know about China though. Is Minnesota really top in everything? >.> OOO a music academy, is there that? Music and arts. *is looking at a joint history/politics/something vaguely academic sounding + music/art degree*
Welcome thunder ^_~

Zineal is a perfect example that we should have consistent Chunnins because people will get too strong and turn the Exams into a freaking war zone.

@ Kouri - I know! Effort should be valued too.
I'm trying to figure out what's more upsetting. My mom and her proclamations or my piano teacher and his Social Darwinistic views too... crying
He happens to be the best one in the school...his students (minus me)...well, they... His other students are just...superior in skill, experience, and talent compared to me. Of course, he doesn't say it directly, but always boasting of just how good his other students are and just how poorly I'm doing kind of...yeah... Doesn't really make it much different from saying it directly.
*sigh*
....
It's not my fault I wasn't explained Music Theory and tempo correctly in the beginning. To my current teacher, it's a wonder how I even passed the Theory Exam (with 85) and finished Eighth grade piano (with 130)... xO
See, I had two different teachers. There's my current one and then there's the teacher I had for ABRSM grades Three - Five (started with grade three). The Chinese teacher kind of didn't do a good job hammering tempo into her students' heads. I never picked it up.
So yes, I'm handicapped. Learning music is tougher than it should be...so a lot of catch-up work has to be done. But personality-wise, I'm rather off-beat too...so hammering a tempo in would be...difficult...to say the least. xO But I try! And he accuses me of doing it on purpose (sometimes getting it right, sometimes doesn't).
What my teacher can't figure out is how I do perfectly fine on one pattern in a few bars...and then I see it inverted and get the tempo all wrong. xDD But I poke fun at him too.
He refers often to the bunny wallpaper in the classroom, whenever I can't do the rhythm of inverted bars.
Teacher: See the bunny on the wallpaper? Me: Yep. Teacher: If I turn the bunny over, is it still a bunny? Me: *smiles* Nope, it'll be an upside-down bunny. Teacher: ... -_- You idiot!
