Haha i enjoy that people keep saying things about being sorry for me when i'm actually enjoying myself XD
Even if you only get one attack then it's still irritating loosing all of your other attacks. After your attack turn is up it's understandable since over their turn they may activate their eyes and all that. However even if we kept it so you only get one sneak attack when you normally get even more (about 5 for me, even more attacks for people above the 20's) it just seems like you get kinda screwed for sneak attacking. In this case i think it would be fair that if you had high enough skill and enough levels to trade in extra attacks that you could hinder the opponent so you at least stand a chance in combat (Since it can be assumed that if you put more into stealth you'd have to take from other combat skills)
I was more wondering if you get hit are you 100% blinded. The excuse was that even while flashed you could still locate the chakra points (so it'd be like little blue specs on a white screen) and therefore could still fight without handicap. -------- Haha i have mid terms at the end of this week, whooo! Well can't wait to see it, good luck with your cramming!
Haha i've come to the conclusion that dice hate me when it comes to training. Not one roll above a ten in a chakra exhaustion exercise... I'm pretty sure that means i fall unconscious XD
Oh great they're amazing at medical stuff now to? XD Nah, but i can actually see how that would make sense haha. -------- Even if you can't dodge there still should be something on attack. I mean think about it, lets say at level six you can finally use Kaiten. Obviously however you only have the chakra to use it once defensively. Then a master/kage decides they don't like your face, or maybe you're being a cocky a**, but for whatever reason they want to kill you. They try to attack and beat your dodge bonus by 90-100, and you get Kaiten-ed, which pretty much makes you loose that turn, and all of the next turn. Which gives Hyuuga X as we'll call him multiple turns to run away. I mean the fact that someone who is not even Chuunin can effectively throw someone who is supposed to be a god of the ninja world on their a** for a few turns seems at least a little flawed. I dunno, maybe if the attack beats Hyuga X's DB by 25 or something it could be safe to say that the attack was able to land the blow before Hyuga X could do his spin. Or just some system that would make it so if you get in a fight with someone who can beat your dodge bonus by a significant amount you don't just put him on his a**.
Yeah, for the auto hit thing i was more referring to a defensive Kaiten. The offensive Kaiten seems relatively balanced as it is. Although it does eat up a lot more chakra then i'd expect, but that's just my opinion.
@ Vain: Haha i wish i could have offered better. Let me know how your character comes out!

Likewise, you have to take more from training other combat skills for counter stealth skills. It's a pretty fair trade, considering that while stealth could be used offensively, Listen and Spot could not. Therefore, it's more a loss training for the counter skills, with perhaps the exception of Sense Motive, which is made worthwhile since both Intimidation and Seduction is countered by that. Other than that, even elemental shield techniques could be done to break off an attack chain (once alerted). All in all, due to how their limit works...Hyuuga and other tracker clans are just better fit against surprise ambushes, thus are choice among recon teams.
If in the event of direct contact with a normal flash grenade, no, it won't be 100%. While it may be powerful enough to increase light for a brief moment (in Shikamaru's case, so that he could briefly his shadows), it's more closer to the bomb tags...as Tayuya didn't express disturbance towards Shikamaru's attempt.
Contacting Hikari Dama is another story.
---
Exactly. Kaiten's purpose is to be defense; it's theory was to be the perfect defense when in grave danger - like that insane Kage trying to kill you scenario. Basically...in respects like an absolute defense that makes a theoretically impossible case possible.
The explosive effect from the impact strengthened by momentum - a lot like if you're heading into a field mine and it blows up...you're going to be cast back and stunned. Except impact would be multiplied in this case, since while in the moments it is active, the shield of chakra is considerably 'solid', and gaining momentum would make it something akin to getting hit by a speeding truck (size)...you don't see people getting up and walking off fine after that... Even if let's say there was miraculously no lethal damage suffered to the body organs...just the brute amount of force absorbed by the receiving end will still end as shock to the nervous system. Logically, it's already doing justice assuming shinobi would be able to brave the impact force after a turn.
Kaiten's purpose is thus a lot like fighting the defensive, just not taking that actual stance...it's 'patrolling', so it was rare to see Neji using it intentionally against his clone's. It shares similarly to defensive combat, because they could observe the strike coming (just with the advantage of not having to sacrifice the offensive by wasting time, with minimal turning). So if the initial attack of a chain doesn't hit, the rest of the chain wouldn't too (lost attacking distance).
Well...if it's a kage... A 'god of the Nina world', or any decent higher leveled shinobi, would be expected to use their brains. Which shinobi besides Naruto goes blindly charging straight at the enemy anyways? They would be a little too overconfident in their own power: as a shinobi should analyze and then attack. Like Gaara at the time of the Chuunin Exams, he faced three shinobi who (theoretically, as seniors to the Exam methods) held the advantage. Having infinite chakra is a plus too in his case, as he could shield without disruption. But they believed in their experience, hence their downfall thus was carelessly attacking the opponent.
So, considering if the Genin managed to escape the killing strikes... Unless they Shunshin from the area or something and make a run for it...either way, the Kage still wins the battle. Though losing one turn, no Genin would be able to hit high enough to completely incapacitate the higher leveled shinobi and thus could claim 'safe'. It'll be 'run for your life', not 'charge in in a hopeless case when almost out of chakra'. The parallelism to Gaara ends there.
...and I assume the Kage would be pretty pissed by then, from the damage to pride, and to add insult to injury...landed on his arse to boot... So, being low on chakra then won't help the situation... >>'' Pretty much... They wouldn't be stupid enough to sacrifice a glaring portion of their chakra, since out of chakra=in big trouble.
If a Kage/Sannin was trying to kill my Genin, I dunno about Zineal, but...I'll concentrate on getting the hell outta there in the first place... Unless an attack was already initialized, which reorganizes priorities: a) stay alive and then b) run for it! xP

Alright, that is actually the best point i've ever heard about move silently and hide. Still, while spot and listen have as many applications as hide and move silently, sneak attack is very weak when compared to its skill category [ninja skills]. While Taijutsu, ninjutsu, ninja weapons, and all the others in that category will help you constantly all through a fight, Sneak Attack is only useful once, and not even for a full turn, only part of the turn. While all the other ninja skills will help you constantly throughout the combat, this makes me feel that sneak attack is very underpowered comparatively and should get at least something .
It was a slightly stronger version of the Hikari Dama. One of my jutsus, at low levels its like a weaker Hikari Dama, but as your chakra goes up it gets stronger and stronger. And yes, its pretty much thrown right at them. ---- And that's what i'm saying, it's PERFECT. That is flawed (excuse the contradiction) for two reasons. One, i can gurantee any custom jutsu or really anything that's labeled as perfect, will get shot down. Simply because there needs to be a balance, and when one person gets something that is completely flawless, then it becomes unbalanced unless everyone gets a chance to have something perfect. And if everyone gets something perfect it takes away the fun of trying to use strategy to tip combat into your favor when you're obviously the weaker one. If everyone got a "perfect" technique, things would just seem lame. My second point i will refure to the whole reason Kenk kept the natural 1 and 20 rule. And that was because no matter how good you are, you were never perfect, you can always screw up. Now i know the counter argument will be "You can roll a 20!" now the problem with this is the Hyuga isn't messing up, the attacker is simply showing perfection. And everyone has the ability to mess up, why not the Hyuga?
It was more the idea of there being such a difference in level that it seems silly that a mid level Genin could effectively instant dodge, AND instant hit. As i mentioned earlier, I'm willing to bet it would be freakishly hard to pass a jutsu that is essentially saying "Yeah, with it i can dodge anything, and if they're close i automatically hit.... And they're stunned... No way to defend..."
True, it would be hard to escape a Kage, however you would still get two free turns before they could do anything. However as far as the chakra goes, you're pretty much screwed if fighting someone that much stronger than you, 30 chakra to hurt them and gain two automatic turns with no hinderence, doesn't seem like such a bad trade off. Though conserving chakra is in important, you have to also know when it's time to spend it and when its a fair trade.
Haha there is a time to run and fight another day, and a time to fight even though it may cost you your life. No matter how sad it is to loose a character. Though in the face of a Kage deciding he doesn't like your face so he tries to kill you, it might be best to run away haha.

Incorrect. I have seen one particular older clan (that specialized particularly in Sneak Attacks/assassination), the Kagetachis, and exactly how devastating they could be. Will was quite skilled at using the system. His ANBU murdered a hunter in a single post.
But either way, that matters very little as this dodging system was already deficit to begin - it's most incredibly unbalanced, especially in the later levels, hence why there's proposal to changing it. But because there's disagreement over a big change, instead it become more convenient to learn shielding techniques.
Sneak attack can be used with Taijutsu or Ninja Weapon. It doesn't deserve a bonus hence, since not only would the Weapon skill roll additions be added, but so would the Sneak Attack skill's. Already, even without Sneak Attack's bonus to the roll added, Istian already proved how it is pretty much impossible to dodge his Amekage's kunais. And there exists Taijutsu here that are probably strong enough to kill with one strike like the Aurum's, and if it's hypothetically a technique like that plus the increased damage, that would give a even greater damage increment - far beyond anything what the currently banned techniques could hope to do. Thus again, the apparent need for shielding Jutsus.
You forget that not every clan has a slightly better chance of pure dodging like the Hyuuga and Uchiha. One group's advantage, another's loss. And most likely, it's only thanks to their limit. And dodging for the rest? Dodging increments are limited while skills can have almost ridiculous expansive growth. All you got to do is buff up and level, and that would literally multiply your hit chance and damage (if so it was chosen to place all newly gained skill points into combat skills).
All in all, where weapons were meant to counter blood-limit holders, doujutsu users/trackers were meant to counter ambush attempts. Otherwise, they would be pretty much useless on recon teams: scouting/spying which insinuates danger, but they themselves must not seem dangerous enough to attract attack.
---
If you're attacking, then yes you, being the aggressor, has a chance of tripping up. But if you're defending, what is there to mess up on? I believe that to be why there also was no logical rolling for dodging (besides just being a hassle). And even when simply bare-handedly concentrating everything on playing the defensive, the dodge rate becomes slightly better. There is only one goal after all: stay alive, while if attacking many goals run across your mind: should I aim for the head, neck, heart...?
Yes, normal shielding Jutsus require an initialization attempt and DC comparison, however, Ninjutsu and Taijutsus have an extensive gap. Ninjutsu takes much more turns and are noticeably slower. Elemental shielding thus have a chance of failure. But Taijutsus are reactionary and do not require the time that is needed to create the seals, draw out the chakra, do the nature manipulation and etc. Taijutsu masters thus are logically superior to the Ninjutsu masters, and can quickly incapacitate the latter in much cases. Kaiten thus, falling under the Taijutsu field, is like a shielding Jutsu but yet not a true shielding Jutsu in its very essence. Simply, it's defensive Taijutsu.
Additionally, Hyuuga clan is the only one canonly given the ability to release chakra from all tenketsu nodes of the body, while other shinobis are limited to the hands and feet. A mess up, thus, would translate that they had a genetic disease, or something that seriously messed with their kekkai genkai... O.o
Yes, even Kishi doesn't have an explanation for everything, no matter how difficult it is to imagine just how Uchiha shoots fire out of eyeballs or Pein can single-handedly crush a whole village that spans about a large city or bugs tunneling in the body...
However, of all the techniques Kishi had shown, Juuken Kempo school was the most complete set he had ever released, fitting well with the given abilities of the limit...unlike what little we see of Senju's mismatched Mokouton or Gouwan school, Juuken Kempo was worked to be used in combinations. An "absolute defense" as Lee had called Neji, even if it wasn't exactly the most correct of terms. All in all, derivatively from how the limit works, links the Jutsus, and the effects.
What defines "perfection" then isn't the Jutsus alone, but how well they fit into the limit and the effects of the Jutsus themselves.
Thus when it comes to custom Jutsus, very few are capable of linking all three targeted points. But it's not impossible, because I have seen another "perfect" clan, from Will's Kagetachis. Even the Taida's admirable ways of incapacitating their opponents (imagine trying to sneak attack from underground...only to find the ground had turned to solid rock xD). It all just depends on the ability of the clan creator, how well he/she could support his/her points.
So what makes it interesting thus is holding a surprise card, how that card is played...and thus I consider innovative ways for stopping Kaiten. Thinking back to before, breaking probably wasn't the best term, as it fits only into the Kusanagi's ability or the brunt power of bijuu holders. Rather thus, what I referred to is about attacking the footing, like what Kidoumaru did. 'If it hurts to stop a top directly, make it slow down.'

Though i have a question, did he kill him in a single turn [post] or in a single attack [one attack/damage roll]? Cause the current argument i'm presenting is that i don't like the idea of getting Kaiten-ed after one attack, since if you can react after one attack, a normal person could surely defend after one attack eliminating the sneak attack bonuses of the attacks that are to follow. As i said earlier, it wont make that much of a difference to me since in the end i can give characters -30 to everything, and follow with roughly 6 sneak attacks, and repeat that process ten times. I'm aware that sneak attacks can be exploted, however currently the only real use of sneak attacks are doing a ton of damage at the beginning of the fight, and then finding douche ways to make it so you can get even more sneak attacks. I would be personally fine with abolishing all of that, and making them "anti-support". I say anti support because typical support gives you health/stat boosts, an assassin should give you minuses and hindrances, but then let the team take over with the brawny work. Sneak attacks are either really lame [if you're unlucky, since the minimum damage for a sneak attack is really low, and if you play at what could best be called 'fair'] or insanely good [the high for sneak attack is insanely high so luck again, and if you're able to find strategies to exploit everything.]
True, dodge bonuses have been flawed for while now. Which sucks since my character was all about not getting hit, then the new system came up and now he sucks horribly. I'm pro no attack bonuses/having to roll for dodge as well as attack! -dodges behind boulder to avoid getting flamed in the form of Katon: Goukakyu no Jutsu
It's true that sneak attack CAN be used with other weapons, however ultimately if your smart you wont. Look at it this way [this example is assuming neither has a general exploitation move]: Would you rather be average at both sneak attack and Taijutsu, and deal a good amount of damage at first, but then have to fight one on one with the person who is better at Taijutsu than you Or would you rather get Taijutsu [keep move silently/hide] and then sneak up on the guy, gain combat advantage for surprising him, beat the crap out of him for a turn [or if you're smart use your combat advantage to choke him to death so he can't fight back] and then have a damage advantage for the rest of the fight AND be on a equal level as the opponent? I will admit that this example is very assumptive in saying both of these ninjas have equal abilities/skill points, just invested in different things since there is a lot of diversity and that is unlikely to happen. So in short, yeah Sneak Attack can be used with other skills, however if you don't create some strategy for exploitation, then it's better to just specialize purely in something.
As we can agree, the dodge system is flawed, so why should the Hyuga/Uchiha not be subjected to these flaws? It seems like if the dodge system is going to be bad, everyone is going to want to go to the shield system. Maybe i just don't want that cause i'll always be a loyal dodge specialist no matter how much dodge sucks!
I dunno, i personally think that its less of a rock paper scissors setup then you make it sound. It seems more to be: Bloodline specialist > Weapon/nin/tai specialist > Misc. Specialist The bloodline specialist part isn't an under the belt blow to this argument, i just mean in general, my characters who have/specialize in a Bloodline are just much better off then those who don't. --- Even dodging has scores to judge whether there is a hit, why should shielding be treated special? I think there is just as much room to mess up in dodging, sure while attacking you have to decide where to attack, but with dodging you have to predict how the attack is going to go, and you could just totally misread the signs. As i said, i liked the original attack system better. Except the random numbers, those are clever. The main reason i see that they took the dodging dice out was to make it more like D&D 3.5, since the new battle system was an obvious echo of 3.5 (newly added base attack bonuses, saving system was tink'd) so it would only make sense to bring in the 3.5 dodge system as well. Nothing wrong with it, i just think instead of throwing out the entire original system and using a 3.5 hybrid was a bad idea. I think that the orrigenal system would have been fine with some parts worked out. (lack of skills, to many dice for damage, which was fixed through random numbers.)
See this would make more sense to me, if the shield was decided before hand. If Hyuga X and Ninja B are in a fight, and Hyuga X says "Alright, when he tries to attack in close range, i will use Kaiten." then i could live with it. However the case is always Ninja B runs in and attacks Hyuga X and Hyuga X says "Alright will it beat my dodge bonus..." And it does legitimately beat your dodge bonus, but then Hyuga X says: "omg no not really i was just pretending i actually used Kaiten INSTEAD of you punching me and me waiting to see if i had to waste chakra..." You say it's defensive Taijutsu, so wouldn't it make sense to need to take a defensive action to use it?
Haha i think that all the bloodlines and clans are just do to mutations and inbreeding. They just don't tell people that because then it'd be weird...
I'm pretty sure you pointed out the own flaw of reasoning, that this is a world where not that much can be explained. And the simple fact that its such a fantasy, makes me question how well can you question what fits in well in this world and what doesn't?
Haha without using exploitations, i think the best way to deal with Kaiten is avoiding melee attacks, tumbling away (to avoid opportunity attacks) and pound them with ranged weapons, until they start to run low on chakra, then hammer them with a few jutus forcing them into the choices of exhaust chakra or take heavy damage.
I apologies because i imagine this post probably doesn't make sense cause i worked on it in multiple settings and probably got side tracked a lot haha.
Aw i'm sorry Cheerios! *gives sunglasses* that should help!
I feel i should try to make people spectating feel less awkward... How is all of your lives going?

In a single turn. His Kagetachi struck high enough to kill a Kage two times over - the hunter obviously stood no chance with much less Hp than a Kage. Will's next goal was to go after the Masters, and probably had a real good chance of assassinating them too, lolz. Maybe that would've saved us a lot of time though... xO In fact, that was the very cause of hatred between Will and Icheti...since it was the latter's character that got massacred... xP
And that's what had happened when Sneak Attacks aren't restricted. The shielding Ninjutsu system was to give a bit more chance before going into adjusting the normal dodging deficits. Technically, even against a normal shinobi, though you still get the additions to roll and damage, after the initial attack it isn't logically really surprise anymore, since the opponent now knows you're there. That's where the dispute between Will and Iche came in. It shouldn't even just be Hyuuga, once you know the opponent is there (albeit painfully), there should be a chance to defend. And I believe generally, sneak attacks are supposed to be something like Dynamic Entry - a surprise opportunity attack. In most cases, a one time thing at the opening of a battle. Against assassination clans like the Kagetachis however, the process could be repeated with the checks/counter checks, since melding into the shadows again was their given ability. But there are whole radius surrounding solid shields, so that's one way to lie in wait for the opponent to show up again.
Yes, reflex stinks. You either become a chicken toasted by a Katon master, washed out by a Suiton Master, sliced into pieces by a Fuuton Master... And you stand absolutely no chance of dodging. See what I mean that it needs revamp? Not only is defending against Taijutsu pretty much pointless, trying to even dodge Ninjutsus is generally a lot cause. The Fire Master couldn't dodge my Hyouton user's attacks and there was a thirty level deficit...Arya's attack DC was quadruple the amount of Reflex he had...yet supposedly, the Fire Master with all his ancient experience should've been superior in dodging. Yes, like you said, most prefers to cap the combat skills instead. It's just more convenient. You do more damage and if it's a weapon skill, there goes again the loophole of the dodging system.
Among the variated limit abilities, better dodging was just a canonly given Uchiha/Hyuuga thing, just as greater power buffs were some other clans'. But not just the canon clans, they're custom ones who were alloted advanced dodging too, thanks to how their limit works (like the Odorikos and their dance-like style). So an edge in dodging isn't necessarily just limited to the doujutsu users. Yes, the dodging system is flawed. But even when it's improved, equivalently with the normal shinobi getting a better dodge, so would the clans with an edge in dodging get the same raise too. All in all, in the end, they still hold the edge.
It might be unfair, but you have to admit there's a bit of social Darwinism in place even in Kishi's work. Limitless Sakura and Naruto held advantages only thanks to circumstance: who they were tutored by (and Naruto from what he had received from Kyuubi's power had stamina no living being was gifted with). And even though shinobi who doesn't have limits are disadvantaged against who do, Naruto's father was a primary example of a normal shinobi who gained fame only because he was ingenius at creating good Jutsu combinations. The same could probably be said of Kakashi, or even Sakumo his father.
Except against clans that get dodge advantages, most clans are quite vulnerable against weapon masters/God's Legacy wielders. If someone chose not to have a limit...well, that was their decision. It would make sense kekkai genkai holder certain advantages over those who don't have a limit, as that's labeled "inheritance advantages" in the first place. And thus likewise, compared to limitless shinobi, Hyuuga/Uchiha would remain with a higher dodge, even if the both channeled efforts into capping. That defines their "inheritance advantage".
---
Shielding Ninjutsus require an activation roll, since it takes time to do handseals, mold the chakra for nature manipulation, do shape manipualation...and materials for the shield have to be gathered quickly enough. The comparison after then is to see if the shield even managed to be drawn up in time. Kaiten isn't a true shielding technique in this above mentioned sense thus. It's purely raw chakra, expelled from the body, comparable even to the basic shinobi skills: tree walking and water walking by expelling chakra at the feet. In fact, I don't think I would be too wrong to categorize Kaiten as partly ability (considering the factor of the all tenketsu node chakra release it utilizes being a given ability) and partly defense. In short, to the Hyuuga clan, and all field chakra release is about as easy as water walking. Neji, even after he lost his complete Kaiten use since Kidoumaru trapped him in sticky threads, was constantly flooding the field around him with his chakra, and managed to disturb the next arrow's pathway: a slight disturbance but enough to avoid it. I was making a reference to how similar Kaiten was, but goes somewhere in between defensive combat and true shielding techniques. It doesn't have a real perfect fit to any particular category.
Even normal dodging is hand in hand with intuition rather than just purely careful calculations. You simply wouldn't have enough time to just stand there and read all the signs of a battle. Shinobis already have some measure of insight and can read aggression/killing intent by chakra signature (that's a given ability). But certain limits carry the ability for advanced perception (superior insight reading into the battle in Hyuuga's case while Uchiha focuses on forereading movement path to avoid an attack before it even hits). Hence, advanced perception makes up for what would normally become lost time that would be wasted on reading: the valuable moments between dodging and getting hit.
You're obviously not going to wait for the opponent to punch you first (standing there wondering if their attack is going to hit or not) before defending. If they're attacking, you see them, that's that. Advanced perception and insight gifts is an added bonus but particularly for Hyuuga, they were famous for inhuman speed: raw speed that rivals the opened Hachimon yet not even using those gates. Complementary to the application of insight, Juuken Kempo Ryuu school on the whole is a defensive offense, the best defense is a good offense: incapacitate the opponent first in order to protect yourself. Kaiten makes usage of given characteristics and abilities - as well as the patrolling being the counter to the blind spot. In that sense, Juuken Kempo is puzzle pieces fitting together to create something better - and fitting it is that each technique of their school complements, for a clan gifted with insight.
Neji might've been an exception but his family don't seem to like just dodging anyways (unless he had absolutely no choice about it, like in the battle against Kidoumaru). It might have to do with a bit of pride-damaging too. 'Don't just avoid the opponent - send them flying.' Well, even when not doing anything, they do seem to have a tendency of trying to terrorize their opponents into submission (Neji messing Hinata's calm with divination).
All limits stemmed from Rokudou Sannin's family. Or at least that's what they were saying canonly about Rinnegan family being the "father of all shinobis". So that actually makes the other two of the main doujutsu families (Hyuuga/Uchiha) closest to the founding shinobi family. Since Uchiha is descendant of Hyuuga, that would make Byakugan line closest to the founder family. It's theoretical but it could possibly explain many abilities such as the all tenketsu node chakra release (which Pain also displays in his gravitational Jutsu...Kaiten seems to be a descending form of Shirai Tensei, as it pushes out onto the surroundings, in radius from the user).
Those who studied or fought the Hyuuga family before probably won't be stupid enough to use melee attacks when knowing it's pointless. Except, after Neji almost got killed by Kidoumaru, Hakke Kuushou solves the ranged problem, so he probably would've stand a better chance against ranged users in part two (though he only fought a clone of Kisame so far). Also, the Hyuuga family doesn't specialize in sneak attacking...attacks of opportunity. They seem to find it dishonourable. Even though Neji spotted Kidoumaru, he demanded the Chuunin to show himself rather than he too using stealth and striking Kidoumaru down.
So you can probably expect they won't hold out the length of Kaiten for too long. Kaiten is supposed to be a patrol before heading in for the attack. And yes, if in the case of two equivalently powerful shinobis, it's always a battle of stamina. The longer-lasting man wins.

Haha yes, yes. To PM's!
Hmmm, I feel left out of this family. I'll just be the grandpa who you don't know you actually have until he shows up drunk at your house and everyone else says "Yeah, yeah he's family" even though you have no idea who the hell he is.
And i only have one test left!!! w00t!!! And tonight is the first time in almost half a year that i don't have homework, whoohooo!!!!!!!!!!!!
