blend tool...
there's "soften", but that doesn't do pixel art any justice. If you have a tablet, PSP can exploit the pressure sensetivity to make smooth shading...

Actually, I just edit one of my old MS Paint ones to make a really newbish looking psp edit. =B heart

Also... where might I find the plain gaia bases without hair or eyes etc? If I get a copy of a few, it would greatly expand my possiblitys.

There's a sticky topic called 'links (renovated)' or something like that. I believe that there is a link to the avatar bases in there. =3
