"Don't get ahead of yourself," Mao warned straightening up a bit. "I don't like this kid's attitude already. He says he doesn't get along with Tatsuhiro and that's a bad thing too. This kid has no reason to be out anyway. Genies are here to grant their wishes and then get on their way. Having one around is not good luck."

"What if genies are just misunderstood? Besides, I don't know what three wishes to ask for! I only have one right now and it has to be worded very carefully... wouldn't it be nice to have Kyo around for a while?" Nathan bit his lip.

"That's on you," Mao replied. "All I know is that I don't like brats like him. I already have to put up with zombie boy and that's bad enough. I'll have clingy moron and now a poser punk b****."
Kyo growled and lunged forward to attack Mao. Unfortunately for him not having any fighting experience he was quickly stopped by the demon and pinned down.

"Ok, so maybe we leave him here... which is mean, but not quite so mean if I pop in on him daily...?" Nathan suggested, watching Mao carefully as he pinned Kyo down. "Kyo, can Mao let you up without you attacking him? Would you prefer to live here until the wishes are granted? And if yes, would you prefer company once a day or not?" he offered, hoping Mao had let the kid up enough so he could talk.

"I don't want to live anywhere and get your animal off of me!" Kyo struggled but it really was no use.
Mao glanced up at Nathan strengthening his hold on Kyo. "You see? I'm not about to put up with this brat. Why don't you call Tatsuhiro in here and tell him to bring something to knock this kid out for a bit so I can think?"

"No, we don't need to knock him out that way." Nathan knelt beside them, placed his hand on a pressure point and pressed down just hard enough to send Kyo to sleep.
Once he was out, he shrugged at Mao. "Not everyone wants help. We'll leave hi in here, then decide what to do..."

Mao let go of Kyo and stood. "This guy's a pain. He can be put back into the lamp whenever you want. I know you like to take care of others and he's one of those types that looks like he needs help but you shouldn't just get ahead of yourself. You have to think about whether or not you can handle him first."

Nathan shrugged. He wanted to look apologetic, but he was aware it was an expression he wore too often recently and so tried to keep it from his face.
"I can visit him here, try to help him while here, then come home if that helps? We can't put him in the house if he's always like this, but you're right: I want to help him, even if it means I come here daily..."

"Why not wish for his freedom then? I don't know why no one ever thinks about that. You can have two wishes and then have the last be a wish for his freedom. That way you can leave him to do whatever he wants."

Nathan winced. There was a reason he'd been avoiding that idea: if Kyo wasn't sorted somehow by the time Nathan freed him, then he strongly suspected he would try to house Kyo. Whether that was in their house... or one he rented for the kid.
"I did think of that..." he admitted, looking guilty again. "But if I tried to house him because he'll be alone then...?"

"If he doesn't want help then there is nothing you can do.You need to at least accept that. Whatever happens though you need to make that decision and not always expect that things will turn out well. If he is freed then he can take care of himself. You can't keep him around if he hates Tatsuhiro so much anyway. In that case it would be either zombie boy or this one. Then you would have to choose between them."

"We don't know if he wants help or not... but I can think about the freeing him thing. I know we don't want a people version of 101 Dalmations, but I'd still try to help even if he doesn't want help." Nathan shrugged, then stepped back. "Shall we leave him in here?"

"Right now do whatever you want. I can give him a good hit to make sure he stays out for a long time." Mao smirked and looked down at Kyo. He knew somehow that this one would end up tagging along too. He wondered then how many would end up living with Nathan in the end.
