I believe you should like or not like something because that's how to really feel not because it's popular, unpopular,ect...Just me when I was a kid I was probly the dorkiest one there is but didn't care what people though, if they were my true friends then they would like me for who I am.
Amen!

Eatign meat? Eh, I'd let them decide for themselves once they're old enough. Mommy may thing eatign meat is wrong, but daddy dosn't. With that in the house, and oyu tell them its wrong and he says its not, your only gogin to confuse the poor kids, so let them decide for themselves

Um, just because eating meat isn't against your morals doesn't make it that easy. Let my kids decide themselves when they're old enough, well what about until they're old enough? What do I do then? Let them eat meat, even though I think that it's a horrible thing to do?

My morals may be different than yours but that doesn't make them wrong, even if you may think that they are. Why would I encourage my kids to take part in something that I see as morally wrong?

And the part about Dylan eating meat I already said that I'm not really sure what's going to be done about that. I'm not going to tell him that he can't eat meat, but at the same time that doesn't mean that I want my children doing it.

...*sigh* My morals trump yours? Never implied that. Sorry if you thought I was.

ANy ways, you're their mother, so, really, you have every right to tell them what they can an can't do. I never implied that you shouldn't before they're old enough to make their own choices.

It was very much said that way, even if you didn't mean to do it. I mean me telling my kids that eating meat was wrong but having them eating meat would confuse them just as much as the other way around, but you automatically jumped to "let them eat meat until they're old enough to decide for themselves". That would be like me marrying someone who was pro-choice and so as to not confuse the children I let him teach the children that abortion was fine while I was fighting to make it illegal.

You may not have meant it, or seen it in a way that implied that the meat--eaters beliefs and morals trumped mine, but that's how it came across. I'm not mad, it was just annoying and I'm just telling you so that you know what not to say if the topic every comes up again.

I need a Katana for my class ( it's a special one, not really sharp because it's just made for practice). I also like swords, they interest me, which is one reason I want to take Iaido, more weapontry and less phsyical combat.
I think that practice blade is actually called an Iaito, right? And the sharper version is a Shrinken or something like that...

I completely agree. It seems silly for the popularity of something to put you off of it. Now, it makes some sense to buy something because it's popular, like in the case of movies or TV shows or video games. But with other things, if you ask me, you should ignore the opinions of others.

Know what I absolutely love?

When people come into a forum say, "You need to be more open-minded," and proceed to tell you that if you're pro-life you must be basing off religion and you shouldn't do that because not everyone believes in your religion. rolleyes

Way to be close-minded. "Not only do I advocate killing children, I like to be a condescending jerk when justifying it."

Those people are ALMOST as cool as the Ministers who have an abortion, admit it's murder, but then say "but it's ok, because it was the mature choice and well, because I say so"

One is called Shinken iaito, I think you were mixing it up with shuriken which are the throwing stars but the name is similer. There are two kinds

Shinken iaito which I believe is the wooden pratice sword and the other steel iaito. I looked it up when looking for classes and equipment ( I had a flyer a few years ago when the class just started but I lost it so I find out where it is and if they still have it). I you have wear stuff like the hakama and the jacket (I think those are called haori) and shirt like thing called gi. So all that is going to be costly. The swords themselfs run $300-500+ (I think those were just the pratice ones). Money is the big reason why I hadn't taken any classes yet but working on it.

lymelady- Yah that don't make since when there the ones that seem closed minded, have they ever though that not everyone is in a religion? I'm not, i'm agnostic. Though I believe in a God and am sure he looks down on killing the innocent I views have nothing to do with that and even so not everybody follows or believes every single thing in a religion, that's more of a choice. So not being in a religion myself i'm not basing of that, i'm basing of the fact that I believe unjust killing ( unless for self-dense/survival and death penatly for the murders) is wrong, should be common sense really. Kill=bad, living=good

Actually, I looked it up on Wikipedia, which could technically be wrong, but I trust it. The sharp one is the Shinken, I accidentally put the "r" in. ^_^;; Wikipedia also says that any sword used in training in Iaido could be called an Iaito, but that they are typically dull, and made out of a certain alloy that is cheaper and lighter then steel, but couldn't be usable as a live, or sharp, blade.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinken

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iaito

Actually, the Shinken is the one I wanted; Hand made and rare, but extremely expensive. I figure, since I don't care about cars, I can use the money saved on not buying a new sports car, and buy one of these babies once I've got enough money. ninja And still have enough left over for a new computer! 4laugh

Hmm. Now I've just got to get on the money making. sweatdrop

The Katana, as nice a weapon as it is, but it has lost its luster for me thanks to pop-culture. I'm now more partiale toward the Nunchuku, bo staff, hook blades, and the Indian katar. I'll most likely go for the bo staff though. I prefer keepign my distance.

luster? screw luster- to go out of ones way to avoid popular oppinion is just as bad as bending to it. i prefer to disregard it completely. if i want a sword and nobody likes swords, so what? if i want a sword and everybody likes swords, so what?

anyway,i like the katana because it is quite powerful- the best-made are able to cut through a man wearing full armor. to call it razor sharp would be an insult. i do like the idea of gauntlets, as well- i would get one, could i find a practical one, or better yet, someone who makes them... preferably a full-arm gauntlet with the fingertips tapering to blades- a new meaning for the term "spearhand"- i'd probably wear it on the left arm, so i could use my right for writing and typing and getting money out of my wallet

First, I just don't like the way the sword is treated now, period, pop-culture is just one reason. The sword is pretty much a joke now, very few times have I ever seen it treated with respect. The only place I can go for that is history books. It was a symble of death as well as liberation, once feard, honored, and respected, now its idolised as somthign else thats "cool". I hate that. And I don't need a reason other then my own opinoin for somthign like that. No offence to you though, your reasons for lickign them are just as suffecient for me not lickign them.

Second, they do have countlets with blade son the finger tips. They're nick-named Guaruda Claws, and were used by an Indian riligiious sect that preformed rituialistic assisinations

i like the katana because it reminds me of the samurai and how noble and honorable and strong they were, and because f how well-made the best ones are... they can be quite expensive, yes, but that's ok with me, i'll save up. and are these guaruda claws like, full-arm gauntletes?

No, its what you assumed was said with out bothering to ask if its what I meant.

No I didn't, again, you assumed that with out bothering to ask if its what I meant

Notice how I never said anythign about teach, merely do. You do realise as their father he'll have just as much right to say its okay to eat meat as you do to say its not. When their younger, I have no suggestions for that. Its a problem you and him are going to have to work out when the time comes.

Well then you should have asked me what I meant before jumping to conclusions.

The Samurai eventualy grew to hate themselves. Look at the times they faught in, and look at how much blood they shed. Feilds were literly dyed crimson after a battle. Most of them beleived in rebirth, and many samurai thought that the worst thing they could come back as was another samurai, a dealer of death. Honor, mabey. Respect, yes. Death, most assuredly.

I really liked it. 3nodding Although...

EDITED: Because I think Kate's trying to repremand me for ruining movies. whee If you haven't seen Batman Begins, don't read the tiny text. The idea of using a giant microwave to evaporate water wouldn't work nearly as well, seeing as the microwaves also would have made the water in everyone's body explode out of them. whee A fun bloody mess that would have been!

And I left out the important details! Well, except for the giant microwave gun part.

Quiet you! Maybe it was made by the same people who did Signs. Don't read the next bit if you haven't seen signs...

Because we all know, coming the a planet consisting of mostly water is the smartest thing to do when water kills you. Water in the atmosphere? Bah, who cares about that minor detail? Also, they can jump onto roofs, break through windows, travel through space, yet they can't open doors that have chairs up against them. Nevermind that they're strong enough to jump up onto a roof, that's a silly detail!

no, it wasn't the respect they got, maybe just a little... but the thing is, they'd burn incense in their hair so their head would smell nice in case the enemy took it as a trophy... they fought to the death, like a berzerker, they had more will than any other warrior i can think of- making them possibly the most powerful warriors in the world until automatic weaponry was invented...
CAUTION- ENTERING NERDISH HYPOTHETICAL BATTLE MODE- SLIPPERY WHEN WET
i bet they'd win in a battle against british revolutionary war soldiers- 1000 soldiers to about 300-500 samurai, probably less. the reason is, the british soldiers had single shot weapons which took time to reload- even though they did stagger to make a close-to-constant stream of fire, it is still far from perfectly efficient. next, the samurai had arrows, which would give them ranged attacks until they got close enough to use swords. when they did, the fight would be over. first, the samurai practiced for years to perfect their swordsmanship- they would pwn the british with only a few months training with bayonettes. secondly, the samurai had their willpower- if they got hit, they'd keep truckin' forward until they died, they were trained to never give up, ever. a british soldier, upon taking a hit, would likely surrender, they just seem more naturally frail. ok, i'm done nerding about hypothetical/impossible battles
