He supposed he shouldn't be too surprised with his skill regarding his bloodline. He was, after all, something an odd exception in how young he had managed to get control of his second self. even his older brother, the prodigy, wasn't even close. In fact, not even Orion-sama, quite possibly the most skilled young genius in the entire clan, had bloomed quite as early as he. Of course, that didn't always indicate unnatural ability, but it was at least something. Had he been one to take to clan's general philosophy, he probably would have been on the fast track to success. Still, he would also be nothing more then a pawn of his clan if that was the case, so he supposed he would have to thank his lucky star for that...if he believed in such things. Besides, even if he HAD managed to slip by only pretending the believe in the clan's teachings, he still would be far too close to the families center of control for him to be able to entertain escape without immediate repercussion. Being remote like this was really the best thing for a person like him... hm...perhaps that had been why his parents... but no, he greatly doubted that they were that considerate. He wondered, now that he thought about it, what jutsu he should go about learning after he'd gotten at least two of his clan jutsu under his belt. He supposed that given his current levesl of skill he could actually push himself further a attempt to learn the great shockwave, his clan's favored method of attack, but at the moment he greatly doubted if he had enough in his chakra reserve. He'd be much better off trying to learn water anyway, given that he didn't want to seem TOO skilled with his kekke genkai. Using it here or there was one thing, and could be explained away by unnatural talent and instinct, but utilizing his families more advanced jutsu so young raise more the a few eyebrows. No, he was much better of master a few jutsu to accommodate for his water affinity first. Perhaps even the shunshin, now he thought it. He was, after all, fast enough to utilize it, and his chakra control and knowledge of ninjutsu was far more then enough to grasp the concept. Yes...he supposed those would be next on his agenda after his clan techniques.
That and water walking, but he doubted that would really give him anything resembling trouble. His chakra control was, after all, rather resplendent.

In fact now that he thought about it, it probably wasn't all that much more difficult than what he was doing right now, water walking. It was manipulating chakra on a precise level, and, while the shifting surface of water and the generous surface tension one would need to build in order to support one's own weight effortless was certainly a rather hefty task, he didn't really see it all that much more difficult then controlling the rather finely tuned details of sound waves. It wasn't really even like walking on walls had been that much of a traumatic experience for him. He supposed some people had it and some people didn't. He for one would even TRY to do something go lifting heavy objects in some insane attempt to impress others, while others took days to master something that he'd taken to like a fish in water. A little water affinity ninja humor there.

Then again, he supposed the impossible could happen, and even expert ninja could mess up at the simplest of tasks when they let their guard down. Humility wasn't really the virtue to him that other people seemed to think it was, but it was still important to know one's own limits. Overestimating one's self was something he often berated his own clan's ideals for, and as such he made a point to not do the same, even on the smaller things. always tackled every task with a cool logical mind, and know yourself, as well as the situation and it's parameters, at least as much as you are able. This was also what made it imperitve to be able to think quickly on one's feet, lest their opponent, or the obstacle in question, acts that much faster. One couldn't always rely on time to react...sometimes one needed to be able to think within the span of an instant...and if that was what it took then that was what it took. There was no point in arguing with reality itself...denying the past was as pathetic and seeing one's self in the present with warped eyes...

The odd thing about it all was that until he'd gotten it into his head this very day to cast aside his limits... his shinobi training had really only been bar average. True, he graduated to Genin, but it was his goal to be a genius among shinobi, a master in the field... and he knew that being a run of mill genin was not going to make that happen. It was as though his sudden shift in motivation, with his newly awakened drive, his path towards becoming a shinobi had truly begun in earnest, his eyes seeing everything so much clearer then he ever had before. He'd progressed so much so quickly, and it was all because of his sudden drive, his radical dedication to suddenly increasing his limits. He was finally on his way to actually rising above the rest and taking his place as an impressive ninja... and he had only just begun to apply himself....

The sound waves abated at his whim as he slowly opened his eyes, his attention returning to the scroll as he continued to read, his gaze sweeping over the page methodically as his mind wrapped itself around the concepts therein. It wasn't really all that much more complex really...from here on out. It was merely a matter of being able to push the sound waves into two conflicting extreme's accurately, and being able to direct them perfectly while doing so. Whether at a single target, or multiple opponents. The goal was be able to endure any failures to control said waves...and that could be no easy task if he failed too many times. The waves were dangerous to treat carelessly, and while his body was much more durable now, most likely able to withstand them, it would still be no simple matter... he would have to give this his all if he wanted to succeed. The true hurtle of this jutsu was before him... and he had to give it everything he had... this was final phase before he would at last be able to say that he could control his Kekke genkai...the last phase before he had tangible proof. Here it went...

Even as the sound waves pulsed through his system, the intensity of the pitch crashing through his sensory perception caused a sharp jolt of pain, his frame trembling from the pressure. This was definitely not going to be easy. But he'd known that, he'd been prepared for that. He was going to succeed in spite of that. Whatever pain he had to suffer he'd come through the other side. He couldn't allow himself to falter after everything he'd put himself through to get this far. This was a test what he'd managed to attain, and a further test of his ability to persevere. He wasn't going to let the pain stop him. He just had to keep telling himself it was no different then from when he'd been training...it was just the same...he just had to keep at it... and he would succeed... he could DO this...

The waves focused inside him as his efforts came through, his mind constantly trying to get a feel for the proper conduct of just how to do it. How it felt to control it, how it felt to raise the dangerous frequencies to the right levels and emit them out into the air around him, directing them to a single point and then again adjusting the frequency to the other extreme. He could tell that this was definitely possible, could feel distantly that he was capable of doing it, but it was going to a long process of trial, and the more errors he had the more it was going to cost him. Still, he would have to fight his way through that just focus on the task itself, if he allowed himself to be distracted by the pain, then it would only serve to make him make even more mistakes, and it would begin a vicious cycle. He just had to keep concentrating... and master this jutsu...

He continued the repeated process, keeping up an ever constant battle to keep the waves under his dominion. He could tell that there was a secret to it, that there was indeed a perfect way to control the waves to the point where they presented no danger to him, but it was finding that exact point, that balance, that was the entire problem. It was no easy task by any means, and it was getting harder and harder the more he was being forced to branch out in his trials of how to get the technique to work. He knew that this was going to get at least a little worse before he managed to master it...so he supposed that he may as well just dive right in and see what he see. If he had to suffer to succeed, it would only be fair. He bit down a continued the process, becoming far more daring as he pushed the limits of his control...

The pain hit him again in a wave, his teeth biting down hard as fought off the urge to further lose control and continued to press on through with the process itself. There was a secret to it, and he was beginning to get a better understanding of what the barriers of his control might be, but it was still a far cry to actually pinning them down exactly. This was still only the start of a long struggle, and he would have to buckle down and face it head on if he was going to make in headway. Still, it was possible, that at least he was sure of. He was strong enough that the odds of him being able to figure it out before he collapsed were in his favor, so all he needed to do was battle his way through the pain, and not be shy about facing it. True he was probably going to be very sore when this was all over, and maybe even in possession of none to clear a head, but he would have mastered this jutsu, and that was what was important right now.

Yes... yes that was it. He was making progress on the low frequency, on being able to properly mold and direct it, he could already see how it could make such an effective weapon. The scroll indicated that, with an incredible amount of chakra control it was possible for an Otobe to preform this jutsu on a whim, with a mere thought and exercise of their chakra, and though he himself wasn't yet ready for that, he could plainly see how useful it could be. Being able to emit this jutsu in combat while simultaneously preforming other actions would be useful even in a battle between elite ninja, all the little extra edge that they would need to defeat an opponent of equal skill level. He suspected that this jutsu was more then merely the simplest of the clan's jutsu, it was also, when taken to it's full potential, one of their most effective.

The high frequency was certainly different from the low, but it to had it's own purpose. it could be used by the Otobe to create an extremely loud and painfully distracting noise aimed specifically for their target, causing them no small amount of discomfort. It was almost impossible to properly think straight for a normal person with this blaring in their ear, the damage of the attack psychological rather then physical. While it was not as commonly used as the low frequency aspect of the attack, it had more then it's fair share ot uses, such as the Otobe's torture implement of choice. after hours of being subjected to it even the most hardened spies were usually nothing more the quivering pile of a jelly. The sound dug inside one's brain like a driven rail spike and for those who weren't prepared against mental strain of that level it was a rather effective way to send them into catatonic shock.

The pain...returned as he once more tested his limits too far, the backlash hitting him as he fought to retain his focus. he couldn't let it overpower him, he couldn't surrender to the pain. This jutsu was just beginning to truly form itself in his mind and he couldn't allow himself to start down a slippery slope now. He just had to keep imagining this pain as no different from his training. True, it was condensed and intensified, but it was the same basic principle. He could withstand this...he could rise above and keep himself under control. It was just a matter of continuing to focus on the jutsu and it's aspects. The frequency, the pitch, the chakra conversion, the direction, the transmittance into the air and volume and radiance of the attack. He just had to keep concentrating on that, and fight back against the pain.

Close, close to regaining control. He just had to keep remembering the end goal, the details of the jutsu. He had always been preparing himself for this moment. The day he finally mastered his Kekke Genkai. Even his insane training just recently had been in pursuit of this. To giver himself a better chance. had that been for nothing? Was it all going to be in vane? No! No he wouldn't allow that. He was going to succeed no matter what the odds were against him. He had to. If his clan could somehow manage it, then so could he. He would take the pain, accept it, as the part of this trial, and he would only allow it to drive him forward. The pain was transient, it would pass, but once he learned the jutsu, that would be forever. He would finally be able to say that he was worthy of his blood line... that he was able to control it, rather then the other way around...
