kandymom13 Dudes, you all rock. I play the alto sax in my school band. nad will be soon in jazz band!!! biggrin Yeah! Go Jazz bands!!! I love jazz. It's great because of the improvisation solos and the hard rhythms! I never got to do this kind of stuff in the concert band, so I was overjoyed when I saw it all! mrgreen

Musical Doom Yo! I play Alto. This morning I was moved to Tenor(Those jerks!) against my will because five saxes is apparently to many. Any tips for the ex 2nd chair Alto that can't seem to get any air through her new horn please? surprised find a different mouthpiece and/or reed biggrin example:mouthpieces with bigger tip openings need softer reeds, skinnier openings need harder surprised hope this helps(NEVER GET A HARD REED BECAUSE YOU THINK IT MAKES YOU A BETTER PLAYER o.o it doesn't...a good player realizes that harder reeds aren't always better...[sorry if you already knew this]) biggrin

That reminds me of when I ordered my box of 4 1/2's without trying them out first. Boy, was that an experience! They took forever to break in, and then I realized that you can just sand them down. mrgreen So yeah, 3 1/2 work for me now.

I just use a really light sandpaper bebcause i'm cheap xP Oh and i know how to do that properly as well. I had a box of 5's that i used in marchingband and it lasted me for quite some time. I dont care about reeds much when it comes to marchingband anyway but with my mouthpiece combo i had such a great STRONG sound with that box of 5's <333

playin sax is AWESOME. i play the alto and tenor. i used the alto with a three during marching band and a three on the tenor during concert. switching wasnt that hard. the only BIG differences is i need a LOT more air for the tenor and all the scales change. its weird, but fun. mrgreen

MHHornfreak: you use 5's? Holy moly. I can only sound good up to 4 1/2; any higher and it gets really airy. I have to try that, though... 5's for marching band. Sounds like a good idea.
