You know what's great about being married..all the sex I want and no pressure or guilt or anything negative smile Marrige is awesome! Carry on.

Right now I can't even get a boyfriend so I won't be marrying anytime soon.

I'm hoping when I take Iaido class that I can maybe meet someone there or at least have my best friend call once again ( I hadn't been able to see or talk to him since last Augest. Wonder where he went and if he lost my number, for the longest time he kept calling the wrong number sweatdrop )
Iaido's a Japanese form of fencing, right? I wish we had Iaido here. Or Kendo. crying

If I remember correctly, Iaido specifically focuses on the drawing of the weapon or some such? Striking from the hip, as it were?

Yah it's sort of like Fencing I think, I don't know if we had Kendo or not out here but I know there is Karate, Tae kwon do and a few other martial art classes.

Eatign meat? Eh, I'd let them decide for themselves once they're old enough. Mommy may thing eatign meat is wrong, but daddy dosn't. With that in the house, and oyu tell them its wrong and he says its not, your only gogin to confuse the poor kids, so let them decide for themselves

Um, just because eating meat isn't against your morals doesn't make it that easy. Let my kids decide themselves when they're old enough, well what about until they're old enough? What do I do then? Let them eat meat, even though I think that it's a horrible thing to do?

My morals may be different than yours but that doesn't make them wrong, even if you may think that they are. Why would I encourage my kids to take part in something that I see as morally wrong?

And the part about Dylan eating meat I already said that I'm not really sure what's going to be done about that. I'm not going to tell him that he can't eat meat, but at the same time that doesn't mean that I want my children doing it.

Well, we've technically got Tae-Kwon-Do but... Well, I've been through a real TKD program, three seperate academies in fact, but this guy here... I personally think he's a nut. I dropped the class after the first time I attended, because I was just like, "Eh, no." And he talked about this kid continuing to do kickboxing under his tutelage even after breaking his nose, as though it was perseverance, when really, given the whole story, it sounded to me like the kid did it because this teacher pressured him to do it.

And the fact that it's a "Christian" academy makes me go, "Eh?" Tae-kwon-do isn't a religious thing. I think it's silly to make it "Christian."
If anything, it's a seperate set of spirituality, because of some of the ideas of it. Like, a lot of the forms represent ideas from some religion. I think it's Buddism? I'm not sure though.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 28, 2006 2:21 pm

If anything it would be closer to buddism, but I see buddism as more as a philosphy (sp?) more then a religion. But anyways as you said martial arts have nothing to do with religion, their beliefts as I as are more to do with philosphy. I don't want to take Tae Kwon Doe cause that has to do with stuff like kicking and throwing and I don't think I would be strong enough to do that so that's why I picked sword fighting. I know one of my aunts as close to a black belt but i'm not sure what she took, I think my dad said it was something like akido but she quiet to take kick boxing instead.

I can't believe that guy forced the kid to fight after braking his nose, I think that would be dangerous, I heard if you brake your nose a certain way it can kill you. That seems kind of cruel.

...*sigh* My morals trump yours? Never implied that. Sorry if you thought I was.

ANy ways, you're their mother, so, really, you have every right to tell them what they can an can't do. I never implied that you shouldn't before they're old enough to make their own choices.

i take koroken, a stlye similar to shotoken... my sensei says that karate is less powerful than it used to be- before, the kata were used to hide pressure points and killing moves- now they are just flashy dances, pretty much, with many of their secrets forgotten. sensei knows tai-chi, iron shirt, deathtouch and koroken, of course. he also knows general boxing and grappling. i would like to learn how to use a katana

The Katana, as nice a weapon as it is, but it has lost its luster for me thanks to pop-culture. I'm now more partiale toward the Nunchuku, bo staff, hook blades, and the Indian katar. I'll most likely go for the bo staff though. I prefer keepign my distance.

luster? screw luster- to go out of ones way to avoid popular oppinion is just as bad as bending to it. i prefer to disregard it completely. if i want a sword and nobody likes swords, so what? if i want a sword and everybody likes swords, so what?

anyway,i like the katana because it is quite powerful- the best-made are able to cut through a man wearing full armor. to call it razor sharp would be an insult. i do like the idea of gauntlets, as well- i would get one, could i find a practical one, or better yet, someone who makes them... preferably a full-arm gauntlet with the fingertips tapering to blades- a new meaning for the term "spearhand"- i'd probably wear it on the left arm, so i could use my right for writing and typing and getting money out of my wallet

First, I just don't like the way the sword is treated now, period, pop-culture is just one reason. The sword is pretty much a joke now, very few times have I ever seen it treated with respect. The only place I can go for that is history books. It was a symble of death as well as liberation, once feard, honored, and respected, now its idolised as somthign else thats "cool". I hate that. And I don't need a reason other then my own opinoin for somthign like that. No offence to you though, your reasons for lickign them are just as suffecient for me not lickign them.

Second, they do have countlets with blade son the finger tips. They're nick-named Guaruda Claws, and were used by an Indian riligiious sect that preformed rituialistic assisinations

I still like Katanas, but if I learned how to properly use a Katana, I would definitely end up spending money on a high quality one eventually; I have heard that those prepared in the traditional fashion can run up to thousands of dollars, and that's what I'd go for.

But I already have a bo staff. It used to belong to a friend's ex-wife who was a blackbelt and teacher of Karate. It's a little splintery, but it's a good quality, heavy staff. Not like the kind of staffs my brothers get in Tae-Kwon-Do for the demonstration team.

Which is another thing that bothers me; If you are going to use a weapon, treat it like a weapon! For their demo thing, they put this shiny tape all over their bo staffs, and they didn't understand why I didn't want any of them to use my bo staff in that way! It really ticked me off. It's like, flashy stuff like that doesn't belong in Martial Arts. Martial Arts, demo or not, should be admired for it's own natural qualities, not the flashy stuff you put on your weapons.

o.O You're talking about India Indians, right? Not Native Americans? Because I'm fairly certain Native Americans never had the ability to make complicated things like gauntlets out of metal.

I need a Katana for my class ( it's a special one, not really sharp because it's just made for practice). I also like swords, they interest me, which is one reason I want to take Iaido, more weapontry and less phsyical combat.

I believe you should like or not like something because that's how to really feel not because it's popular, unpopular,ect...Just me when I was a kid I was probly the dorkiest one there is but didn't care what people though, if they were my true friends then they would like me for who I am.

flashy stuff? well then explain the rope tassle on the hilts of most chinese swords? or the smalll tassle on the blade of the kwon-doa? it serves as a distraction or asthetic colloring for in a demon stration. And you don't treat a weapon as a weapon, you treat it as an extension of yourself...i thought every one knew that....I dont claim to know everrging, but i did read the Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi.

And good luck withPrices for a good Sword bud, the cheapst I've found was $1500.

yes Indians, as in India.

No, I'm talking gaudy flashy stuff. Not decoration. Proper "accessorization" complements the blade, in my opinion.

Also, if a weapon is to be treated like an extension of ones self, then would treating a weapon like a weapon not be treating it like ones self? I never said -how- it should be treated, just that it should be treated like a weapon. Not a freaking twirler's stick, or a baton.

Yes, a sword should eventually become as though an extension of the arm; It should be as easy to use as picking up your cup for a drink or whatnot. That doesn't really describe the fullness of it, however. There's also the proper way to clean a weapon, to present a weapon, etc.

I haven't read the Book of Five Rings yet. I'm sure I'll get to it eventually, though.

Yes I know. "A quality traditional Katana is worth thousands of dollars," did I not say? I wasn't saying I was going to buy one now. Once I have a good amount of money and can afford one.
