Yo! I play Alto. This morning I was moved to Tenor(Those jerks!) against my will because five saxes is apparently to many. Any tips for the ex 2nd chair Alto that can't seem to get any air through her new horn please?

patriciagreen95 i play alto and tenor on 3 vandoren reeds. i'm so happy cuz im starting to learn vibrado heart You'll get it pretty quick, and it's really useful! Just remember; don't use it all of the time, but don't never use it. You've gotta learn where and when to use it, and then you're suddenly twenty times better.

Musical Doom Yo! I play Alto. This morning I was moved to Tenor(Those jerks!) against my will because five saxes is apparently to many. Any tips for the ex 2nd chair Alto that can't seem to get any air through her new horn please? Check for gunk/mold in the mouthpeice, neck, and the top of the sax. If it's stuffed up (I sure hope it's not) then that's a prob. Unless it's just your embouchure; then you just have to get used to it. Other than that, if it's clean, get a thinner reed. That will fix it, but it still needs more air than an alto.

megamanfan66 supergoalie24 megamanfan66 supergoalie24 Rinkashitakutoka supergoalie24 ok so i have a little problem. THeres something wrong with my bari sax and i have no idea waht it is but i can't play anything below middle a (90% of the notes in the songs i'm playing are notes below mid a). this is becoming a real problem. so all i know is that i don't think it's my reed or my embouchure any1 got any ideas? probly has a key leak. thats what i thought it might have been but i wasn't sure i'm taking it in to the shop tomorrow to get a new cork anyway so i'll have them take a look at it I bet it's the G key that has the leak (left ring finger.) That happened to me about a year ago, too, and I put a new pad on and tightened some screws. It worked out fine after that. But yeah, If you're having it looked at, tell them about it or else they might not fix it. yea it was the g key, and it was like 50 bucks to have them fix it D:< can any1 recommend some good bari reeds? Man, I have yet to find some bad ones! Try a Rico Royal, break it in, and if it's still not your type, then get vandoren classics. I onlyrecommend rico royal for bari, not tenor or alto (or soprano, for that matter.) They're awesome on bari, but somehow aren't great on the other saxes. yea i know i use to play alto and my mom bought me a pack of rico royals because they were cheaper than the reeds i usually got and i just couldn't play as well with them but now i play bari and ur exactly right, rico royal bari reeds are much better

Yep... rico royal is a bari-exclusive reed to many people. I'm trying vandoren javas for alto, and so far I'm not impressed. They're thin and fragile, and last like 2 weeks max.

iP3NGUiN Yo, I play tenor sax in beggining band. I been playing since around september, 2008 and im having problems with some notes. =[ When i try to hit high notes (and some low notes) it either squeaks or it sounds wierd. The only notes i can really play is when i dont have to use the octave key. I dont know if somethings wrong with me or my sax. The sax is NOT mine its the schools and i use RICO reeds size 3 and my mouthpiece is size 3. Help? there are a couple things that could be wrong if your a beginner you should start out with a 2 or 2 1/2 reed, 3 is more for 2nd year band. and on top of that rico royal alto and tenor reeds suck. rico reeds are only good for bari sax. try some other brands. the only other thing that could be wrong is your embouchure

Tenor Sax player here. Currently using a Selmer USA w/ Selmer Paris mouthpiece.
Played in Varsity Band, Marching Band, Symphonic Band, and Pep Band.
Oh by the way, the best high school Symphonic Band in the state of Michigan. Pretty much.

Well, first I played bari, but they put me on tenor because I was too small to hold it correctly. I guess they were hoping I would grow...but I never did, so then they switched me to alto because even the tenor was a little big for me.
So...I'm alto sax right now. I'm learning clarinet...It's more difficult than I thought...

Clarinet's a hard instrument to play well, though... but if you can, get to know both instruments. It'll pay off later. mrgreen
