After some rather interesting reading, I've decided that I don't dislike supersymmetry as much anymore. The main problem that I had was the mangling of the spin-statistics when one shifts from fermions to bosons and vice-versa. It turns out that this isn't unprecedented, in that if one considers negative-dimensional Lie groups to be just the positive Lie groups with symmetries and antisymmetries switched, things work. We get that SU(n) = SU(-n) and the tableaux corresponding to representations are just flipped along the diagonals. The formulas for stuff work out fine as well.
So I'm willing to accept that fermions are bosons whose gauge groups have negative dimension and that it's this negative dimensionality, rather than the spin, that directly influences the spin statistics. Hence a symmetry that swaps negative and positive dimensional groups would swap bosons and fermions.

It looks like I'll be at UPenn until I run out of grant money.

That's cool. I've nevver been to UPenn. My funding is essentially a bow and a map of decent hunting grounds.

Wheee.... We just had a fire right outside my office window. Thankfully, the quick thinking action of soda drinking students and another faculty member, kept the blaze localized long enough for more people to bring water and fire extinguishers.

The branches of Springer and Birkhauser is in a building nearby. They're closing, so today they were giving away books for free! So I got a bunch of books, I have no idea what they're about, but I've got a bunch of free math books!
Also, my thesis exam could have gone better. I thought he was going to ask about manifold reduction theory, not more general moment map stuff.

My thesis defense is on Wednesday and my advisor hasn't given me any feedback on my thesis or any clue as to what other questions they'll ask! Worse, I'm defending after Simion Filip, one of the biggest math beasts on campus. I feel totally ********.

Quantum gravity is seriously crazy stuff. I mean, quantum mechanics is weird in places, but the math is simple enough that it can be followed. General Relativity uses a bit more sophisticated machinery, in my opinion, but is still very easy to see at work. Non-commutative geometry? Quantum-deformed algebras? Oh god, my brain!

Maths is easy; computation (and especially getting beings other than yourself to do computation) is hard. Also, congratulations on your masters.
