He laughed nervously and a little quieter than he normally would. "Heh heh, yeah..." "I won't tell. Unless you say so or it is imperative," Isaac thought as they neared the group of ladies. He blinked as they reached them, "What happened? Is she okay?" He jogged over to help Amara with Rainer.

(Maybe someone should pm her. See if she forgot or is elsewhere.)

Amara slumped forwards slightly, still holding Rainer adamantly in her grip, though it was clear they would need someone else to carry her--or find some way to wake her up. She glanced anxiously at the girl's closed eyes and wondered just how taxing such magic really was.

Something so wicked obviously comes at a steep price.

Her conflicting thoughts caused her to arch a brow in frustration and sigh heavily as Isaac approached her; the SeeD offered him a slight nod of thanks as she spoke,

"I guess...she just fainted, after doing some sort of magic on the other sorceress," Amara then bit her lip hastily before adding, "...whoever she was."

Isaac nodded. "Okay. I'll take her." As he knelt down and took Rainer from Amara's arms he gently placed her on the ground. He picked up her and put two fingers on her wrist, then put his ear by her mouth. "She's fine. Just sleeping. She must be wiped put from fighting the sorceress." Isaac leaned back to and upright position and pulled his hair back and closed his eyes. "Uh.... Me too. When we get back I'm hitting the sack."

Obvlivioius to all around her, Rainer slept on. She would twitch every once in a while, or mutter incoherently under her breath. Her brows creased as she dreamt...

Flowers. Flowers of every color. Grass the height of her knees. A breeze, ruffling her hair.

Then--

A large plateau of white stone. Grim mountains in the distance. Blood splattered on the ground. Feathers, drifting down around. A world of black and white feathers.

Then--

A cheering crowd. A cold woman sitting there. Impossibly beautiful, impossibly cold. White-gold eyes shifting around indifferently. A sneering blonde man.

Then--

A violently red moon. A colossal red cloud of monsters falling. Someone engulfed by the mass of monsters. Monsters, running rampant--

Then--

A huge behemoth of a structure. Several hundreds of feet off the ground. Symbols and lines of light etched into it.

Then--

Another cold woman. Worse than the other. White-gold eyes as well. White hair. Impossibly cruel. Not an ounce of remorse.

Finally--

The field of flowers again. A stone rising out of the ground. Like a grave stone. The name was--

Rainer jerked awake. Her confused eyes were out of focus. Trying to sit up, BAM! her head collided with Isaac's. Rainer dropped her head, wincing and rubbing her forehead.

"Ow!" she growled, scowling. "What happened?"

"OW!" Isaac yelled as he fell backwards, his legs trapped under him causing him a little more pain. "What was that for!?" Isaac yelled as he swung his legs back around and leaned forward, hands on his forehead. "You fell asleep you headache with a personality!" He knew he would laugh about the comical moment later.

Amara grew silent and still yet again as Rainer regained consciousness; in any normal circumstance, a smile would have graced her features at the comical sight of her awakening, yet now she merely stood with arms crossed. She raised an arched brow against her creased forehead, her bright eyes regarding the peculiar girl.

She couldn't help but shake her head at the sight of Isaac's pained expression.

"It seems like you fainted after you did whatever strange magic on that sorceress,"

Amara said slowly, carefully construing every syllable into calm apathy,

"So it would be better for you to tell us what just happened, don't you think?"

Rainer frowned and sat up carefully, still rubbing her aching forehead. Fell asleep? How did she fall asleep in the presence of a Sorceress? Rainer turned to Leagh only to find her gone.

"Where did--" Rainer began, but then she stopped. Something was rousing in her memory. In a rush, everything that happened in her trance and her dream came back to her. Rainer's eyes grew round and her mouth opened into a silent O.

Rainer turned to Amara just as she spoke. Her white-gold eyes narrowed. Amara seemed to be painfully cool towards her, Rainer. Rainer slowly pulled several strands of white hair away from her mouth before dropping her narrowed gaze at Amara.

"I only just remember what happened," Rainer started, frowning at her gloved hands. Images ran through her mind. "It's kinda confusing, actually." Putting a hand to her forehead, Rainer thought.

"Well, with Leagh, I have a big impression of white light. Someone was giving off pure light, and he, or she, told Leagh that she was to be punished. But then Leagh tried to get away, only she couldn't because some invisible force kept her on the ground. Then the person made Leagh glow red, and the red light leaked away from her." Rainer paused, her eyes taking on a far away look. "Then she disappeared, and I came to. I saw her fade away and she looked human the moment she left. I dunno where she is now." Rainer shrugged, coming out of her reverie. "I don't even understand what just happened, really. But after I fell asleep, I had this weird dream..." Here her eyes screwed up a bit as she tried to recall the images. The images flashed in front of her mind's eye vividly and perfectly, as if it were happening all over again. Suddenly, Rainer didn't want to share her dream. Shaking her head, Rainer just let her sentence hang in the air. "But anyways, where do we go from here? James?" Rainer's white-gold eyes found James'. A pang of longing filled Rainer at that moment: She just wanted to be seventeen again and blissfully ignorant of the current events, concerned only whether or not she could ditch James to do some mischief-making.

"Our best bet would be to travel to Esthar City and spend some time there." James answered Rainer's question, his gaze never faltering from Amara. She was interesting, very much so, and he was curious to know more, "We could stock up on supplies, maybe spend some time seeing old associates, take a break for a day or two, and then make our way south toward the White SeeD Garden. They'd be able to supply us with a boat fast enough for us to catch up to Balamb Garden."

Finally he looked to Rainer with a smile, "Got your Energy Crystals already? That's one of the many reasons why we could stop."

"Huh?" Rainer asked stupidly. She had forgotten, in all the excitement, that she had the two Energy Crystals. "Oh, yeah," she added with an awkward smile. As she stood, she dusted herself off. Rainer frowned down at her white shirt. It was covered in dirt and blood. Those stains would never come out now. Scowling, Rainer retrieved the two Energy Stones from her pouch. They were relatively small, about the size of her pinky, but Rainer could feel the power radiating from them. The Energy Crystals pulsated with a soft white light.

Stuffing them back into her pouch, Rainer looked around at everyone. The battle with the Sorceress had been taxing, but no one sported mortal injuries. And for that, Rainer was thankful.

"Well, let's get going then, hunh?" asked Rainer, the corners of her mouth twitching into a hesitant smile. "Esthar City won't drag itself to us!"

"Lead the way, Rainer." James replied with a smile of his own, "How many times did you ditch me when you were younger, just so that you could explore these fields? I think you're more than capable."

Amara watched the exchange with an expression of both simple apathy and bewilderment--the latter of which she had tried to conceal upon her wide-eyed face. It took a moment for Rainer's words to register, and another moment for her to ponder them.

Did she just strip the sorceress Leagh of her powers? How could she have possibly...

It would be wise of you to stay as long as time permits. Perhaps you could consult him when you reach Esthar.

Do you really think that old man would know anything of this?

You are due to see him, nevertheless.

Losing herself temporarily in her thoughts, Amara gave a long, drawn-out sigh, walking forward across the grass and considering this strange turn of events. She was painfully aware of James' gaze upon her; one of intrigue and curiosity rather than suspicion, yet she dared not respond for fear of returning it with a bit more spite than intended. Neither did she dare look towards Rainer as she spoke.

"Then I'll stay with you all until we find a way to fix this mess with Esthar."

It hadn't been a request to join; it had been a statement. Amara couldn't let these people slip away from her hands, not when her nerves screamed painfully against her flesh with every passing moment of their proximity, not when they seemed to play such a vital role amidst the ensuing political conflict Galbadia presented. Then her golden eyes swept over the empty patch of earth Leagh's crumpled form had previously occupied, almost desecrated in the malicious vibrations emanating from where her presence had touched. Of course Esthar Garden had disappeared without her; it was all too convenient, and she had been a fool to overlook the fact.

They knew I'd run into Leagh, didn't they? But I suppose I've disappointed them.

Amara glanced at both Isaac and Mimi, confident in the ability of the two SeeDs--they were obviously going to have their hands full in the coming war, yet they seemed resilient enough. The girl chanced a reluctant glance in James and Rainer's direction; Diablo's instinctive burst of panic shot through her frayed nerves at the mere sight.

"Rainer," She began abruptly, "...How did you inherit such powers?"

Rainer grinned at James. So he remembered that as well. Unbidden, the memory of her temporary amnesia came to mind, and she was confronted with the image of a crying James. Insides squirming with guilt, Rainer quickly turned from James so her wouldn't see the guilt written across her face.

I can't believe I did that to him... I should have been stronger than that. I love James. He's like family to me. Why couldn't I have battled Leagh? Why did I...

Rainer snapped out of her guilt trip to herself when Amara spoke so suddenly. The question caught Rainer off guard.

"Hunh?" Rainer blinked and then the question registered. Her mouth thinned into a line and her white brows furrowed as Rainer clammed up. "I was possessed by that Sorceress' friend." She waved a stiff hand over to where Leagh's form had been. "While I was being possessed, the Sorceress' powers were transferred to me."

Shrugging, Rainer checked her blade to ensure it was still securely tied to her belt. The buckle was a little loose so Rainer tightened it before straightening.

"Okay, everyone," she said briskly. "Let's go." Nodding, Rainer headed back toward the village they had stopped at. Twilight was fast approaching and Rainer did not wish to wait around for the monsters. She had got what she wanted; in fact, she had gotten much more than she had bargained for. They all had. As she walked, Rainer checked her pouch for the other items needed for her weapon upgrade. Ten screws, check; two Energy Crystals, check; three Fury Fragments, check; and one Chef's Knife, check. Rainer smirked. Her new weapon would be much stronger than her current one, and Rainer was looking forward to that.

Amara followed Rainer's lead without straying into a cluster with the others; she preferred to walk alone, and did so at a rapid yet steady pace. Her mind was clustered with thoughts as falling leaves during an autumn day; each strange event of late unfurled before her, fluttering just away from her reach when she would be close to grasping any sense in it.

The two were both stripped of their power, then? Her lips creased into an agitated frown at the thought. She had known of Leagh and her sister before encountering the strange SeeDs, had heard mention of the two time and time again, so much more than she would have liked in her past--yet they were both still alive, if not stripped of their powers completely.

And the girl--Rainer, took the other's power, without it being transferred?

"Interesting that you managed to break free of the hold," She breathed quietly, watching Rainer's back as she walked, envisioning the girl's possession.

Obviously, something had gone wrong; Amara did not think the sisters would bestow such power upon a SeeD, no matter how twisted and strange their goals may be. An accident, then? Something wrong throughout the process of possession itself? That was more likely...much more likely. The sickening churning of her stomach returned amidst her thoughts, and she realized she had been trotting up towards the alabaster-haired girl too closely for comfort. Scowling slightly at none in particular, Amara drummed her fingertips against the back of her glaive, its sharp curve shimmering like onyx in the sunlight.

More questions burned at her throat, struggled to break free of her foolish tongue; yet she bit them back resolutely, determined not to give herself away in her extreme curiosity. Just as she could hold herself off from giving into the horrific dread felt in every limb of her body, so could she keep herself from asking questions that would, in turn, arouse questions toward herself.

Esthar isn't far. We'll see what happens then.

Isaac followed behind with his hands folded back over his head. In truth he would have much rather sleep in one of the trees they were walking past. When he wasn't studying or sparring he was hanging in a tree. He would skip classes and lessons occasionally to go sleep in one. He felt at peace there.

Isaac yawned and covered his mouth, "Aww... Hey, when we get back, will someone wake me up before I sleep straight into tomorrow?" "Don't want to throw off my schedule and I need to eat.."

"We'll make sure that you get up and eat." James chuckled, "No worries."

He kept his pace back behind his three students, about equal with Amara however much she would have liked to have been in the rear. They walked silently for some time before James slowed down a bit more. He was hoping that Amara would take the hint and do the same. Mimi, Isaac, and Rainer weren't paying attention at all and so they continued on their marry way, enjoying themselves as they did. They made it out of earshot at an alarmingly fast rate.

"Amara." James called for her once his three students had disappeared into the small town, "May I speak with you out here for a moment? I ask not as your superior, but as your equal. I merely wish to talk to you."
