David nodded and said, "Hence the familiar dialect... but with an interesting accent."

He cleared his throat and said, "Well then, they certainly have isolated themselves as much as you all. But we're glad that you decided to end your cutoff period. There's much we could learn from each other; of that, I am certain.

"I would explain our history in return, but it's long and detailed- a complex engine of change. We don't have time for drawn-out tales, so let's get straight to the point. Would you kindly have someone show us around? This place is fascinating."

Of course, he promised that he wouldn't touch anything. They were the strangers here.

"Set up camp?" Asherah looked up at the stars for a moment, then back at him. "Sure, why not?"

With a giggle and a little kick with her feet, she hopped out of his arms and sighed.

"I don't have a pillow or anything though..."

"I'm told I make a pretty good pillow," he says as he looks around a bit. He finds a good open spot. "Do we have anything we can use as a pup-tent or something?"

"Not on me. I tend to travel light... There may be a cube down at the boat... But the tide must have claimed it by now." She looked around a bit for a place to sleep. "Ah hah!"

Whipping out her hand, she pointed feverishly at a banyan like tree sheltering a patch of dry land by the river. Giggling and trotting in place a bit at the sight of her find, Asherah took Enki's hand and happily began to walk to the tree.

"I choose here." She chimed as she plopped down. "Okay?"

He snickers slightly as she takes his hand and scampers away. Looking about a bit, he nods and smiles down to her. "This looks good to me," he says before laying his coat on the ground for them and plops down on it.

Quickly taking to the unwritten rules of a slumber party, Asherah latched her arm with Enki's and snuggled up. Now she didn't really care, he was of no threat, it was no use acting squirrelly. She wasn't a child anymore, she was an adult. And has been for a long time. Perhaps this hadn't sunk in yet. This reality of age...
Asherah rested her head on his arm, and let her eyes wander out on the river.

"We are yet the dying breed
All I have are my two hands
What I have, you'll never need.

Knowing that we'll never lead
Our voices silenced throughout the lands
We are yet the dying breed.

With all the actions that I didn't heed
And all the things that time demands
What I have, you'll never need.

The signs that we failed to read
How our hopes were cast to sands
We are yet the dying breed.

Now that I know, I'll not succeed
My hair the color of fine silk strands
What I have, you'll never need.

The tears are gone, but now we'll bleed
Remember the truth and how it stands
We are yet the dying breed
What I have, you'll never need.
"

As the Historian took a seat, the golden Draconian spoke again, and gestured toward Relt and Tyris.

"I'm sure your Guardian friends will be able to show you around well enough, since all of you are already acquainted. Is this true?"

The pair of Guardians bowed simultaneously. "We are more than willing, Wise Melokar," Relt replied, and the Wise One nodded approvingly. Then he dipped a claw into what appeared to be an inkwell set upon the desk beside him, and began to scrawl something upon a piece of parchment in front of him.

"It seems that we need not delay you from exploration any longer, friends. Please, take this pass, and go wherever you please. We are more than willing to share our beautiful islands with you."

Melokar folded up the pass he had written as a guard stepped toward him, and handed it to him. The guard then carried it over to Daniel, and bowed as he handed it to him.

"And please, if you feel any need to consult us again, do feel free to return at any time."

With that, Melokar smiled and gestured toward the doors.

And with that, they stood, bowed, and headed out with the two guides. It appeared that this village was full of interesting things and sights, so they wasted no time in getting to the point. David turned towards his guides and nodded.

"Shall we get going? It matters not where we go first- you know this place better than we do. And don't worry, we're unarmed- we won't do any harm."

But just because they were unarmed didn't mean they couldn't defend themselves.

The Guardians shared a discreet look of amusement -- they doubted that anything the humans were packing were capable of harming many Draconians -- but said nothing about it. Instead, Tyris suggested that they go to explore the Marketplace, to start things off.

With that, they set off down the hill.

Meanwhile, back inside the council chamber, the smile faded from Melokar's face after the doors closed, replaced by a grim expression, and he ran a scaly palm across the top of his skull in a worrisome gesture. It had been a long day, and the most senior and respected member of the Wise Ones was exhausted and stressed out.

A comment from one of his fellow council members certainly didn't help matters.

"Our resources are becoming scant, Melokar," said another Wise One, a small and wrinkled violet female. "And the presence of all these foreigners only serves to strain them further."

Melokar sighed, and turned to look at her. "I realize this, Lethra, but you know that we have little choice in the matter. We need to import resources from the outside world, and the only way to do that is to establish favorable trade relations with them."

"So you say," she responded, barely masking the skeptical tone in her voice. Ever since resource management had become an issue, Lethra and Melokar had openly opposed one another when it came to devising a solution. Melokar had suggested that they bring outsiders to Virconia in order to establish trade bargains. Lethra had espoused taking more time to devise solutions that did not include bringing human foreigners to their homeland. But Melokar argued that they simply did not have that time, and that they could not afford to dance around the problem trying to find an ineffective solution as their resources dwindled away day by day.

And, because Melokar commanded more respect among the council members than Lethra did, his method of opening their borders to the outside world had prevailed.

"There is little point in debating it any further," he said, trying to keep what little patience he had left in check. "It is done. Reversing the decision now will only hurt us, not help us."

Lethra couldn't stop herself from sneering as she responded. "The only thing that has hurt us us is your --" she began to say, but he cut her off in midsentence.

"Enough!" he snapped, teeth bared. He had come to the end of his rope, but he managed to regain his composure and settle down again before he continued. "As I said before, there is no point in arguing it further. It is done."

And with that, he adjourned the council, and they all rose to leave.

Still, as he headed toward the doors of the chamber, Melokar couldn't help but have a few doubts about his plan, and wondered if he had truly made the right decision . . .

Out across the ocean, the great mass of mist and vapor that blanketed Nokohai seemed to shudder momentarily . . . and began creeping toward Virconia . . .

Enki sits with the girl curls up to his arm, smiling softly with eyes closed as he listens to her gentle, lulling voice and her beautiful song. When she finishes, he looks over at her, still smiling gently. "That was very beautiful..."

"My mother, she used to sing it to me when I was little. When I was supposed to go to sleep." Asherah's eyes glittered with nostalgia, so did her smile. "My window, where my bed was faced the ocean. So when I wasn't able to sleep, I'd just watch the tides caress the sands. And when it stormed, through the sheets of rain that formed these curtains of water, I could watch the ocean rage. Sometimes, I was scared of it. But I knew it had a reason to act so..."
She gently nuzzled his arm with the side of her head.
"On some nights, I'd sneak out and I would sit on the beach. But only special nights, when the water was at it's calmest. When the moon was new. I'd dip my toes in the water, and simply sit there in the darkness."
She looked up at Enki.
"Waiting for something to happen."
Her eyes searched him silently.

His deep, blue eyes gaze into hers, watching her as she speaks and listening to every word she has to say. "And now you sit, yet again, feet in the water of the currently placid ocean, waiting again to see if something would happen. The ocean can tides, covering the sand in a security, but also churning it with passion. So then, what will you do when something does happen?" he asks before leaning in slowly, his warm, soft lips pressing softly against her own, caressing them as the water does the sand.

But of course, they were indeed taken on a tour of the island. Thus far it was a quaint village, full of all sorts of unseen wonders. But of course, they hadn't seen how they were armed yet. The drone had already done that though. The rest was up to them in finding out how they lived, what their rituals were, et cetera.

The boat that was outside however, began to notice something wrong. Or at least, one man on the boat did.

"Oi... is it just me or is the air getting kinda heavy?"

The captain looked towards his technical officer and said, "Nonsense. We haven't gotten any readings in the past hour now- I doubt the weather is suddenly going to change on us."

Still, even the captain had his... doubts about this place. It was uncharted territory, and one shouldn't take a chance in a place they didn't know about.

"...Keep scanning, just in case. I want to know the instant something happens."

The technical officer nodded and continued searching for anomalies. If that fog bank was coming their way, they'd know it. They just wouldn't know how it got their on its own, without any wind to drive it...

In the instant, Asherah could have been water herself. All of her thoughts seemed to seep away. But she was nervous, her fingers slightly curled, her brows slightly furrowed. She didn't want to do something wrong. She pulled away like a little girl with a crush would, her hair covering her eyes.

"I--um.. Do ehhh.... S-s-s-soo..." She fought for the right words to say.

'GAHH WHY'D YOU HAVE TO KISS ME LIKE THAT.... Sly dog...' She screamed to herself in her mind. On no, she liked the kiss, but from such a creature was astounding. She never expected someone, like him, to want to let alone after, sorta just meeting for a long period of time to do that. Something that she wanted.
'Now look at your self Ash, stuttering like a two hundred year old. Bah. It was good though...' Asherah finally summoned the courage to look back up at him, a full blush swept her cheeks.

"You." Reaching up with a petite hand, she brushed his lip. "Better have meant that... Or else I--"

She froze as her eyes locked with his.

"....I...."

A tiny little shiver runs itself down his spine as her soft fingers caress over his lip, his eyes not leaving hers as she searches him, for meaning or for truth. She is scared. She is nervous. He is as well, just does a little bit better of a job hiding it. "No, need to worry... I don't do anything I don't mean, and that includes this," he says before wrapping his free hand around her and gently presses his lips to her own once again.
