"Come on," Ethan repeated, privately astonished at the firmness in his voice. "Please, we should go."
He stood, holding his hand out ineffectually for Björn.
Clinging to Liam yet again, Crow forced herself not to shiver as she glanced over the dead faces of the bodies. She could hear Julian and Lenore arguing in hushed tones somewhere beside them, and latched onto the displaced normalcy to keep herself calm.

Björn gave a slight nod, grasping Ethan's hand gently for some kind of comfort. It might as well have been a child's. He walked off toard Liam then, slowly recovering and wanting to get away from that damnable...thing as fast as he could.
Liam sighed and ran a hand backward through his hair.
"I saw a motel on our way over. We could probably afford a room if they'll take us in."

Keeping up with Björn's broader strides took a bit of a jog, but Ethan stayed very close, looking up from time to time and worrying. Julian blinked, letting Lenore go at last, and offered his ancient wallet to Liam.
"Money," he said, voice clipped. "If they take Gaian currency."
Crow, after recovering from the crick in her neck she'd given herself for turning to gawk at the suddenly chatty brother, dug into her pockets hurriedly.
"Crap, crap, I know I have some cash somewhere," she muttered, patting herself down and forgetting she'd left her wallet under her bed.

Liam put his hand up to refuse the wallet, although he was privately thankful that Julian had said something.
"They don't, but--"
"I still have some," Björn said suddenly, voice even deeper than usual, "and I'm rather persuasive." He let go of Ethan's hand and headed off the way that had come, keeping his eyes peeled for a motel of some kind.

Stowing his wallet again, Julian followed after Björn and Ethan without another word. Crow sighed, grateful to know her brother was still capable of speaking but wishing he'd indulge in it a bit more, and tugged Liam along after her.
Lenore lagged behind a moment, looking at the bodies. Her eyes rested on the little one, and she was surprised to feel her stomach turn. She looked away quickly, hitched up her trailing skirt, and jogged quickly to rejoin the others.

In less than ten minutes, the group was shoved into a rather small motel room, thanks to some 'persuasion' on Björn's part involving a threat with a rather large and heavy trunk.
Two beds and two chairs. They'd make it work.
Liam immediately claimed a bed and curled under the covers without so much as removing his boots. He wanted to dream and forget this day already.

Julian took one of the chairs, slouching in it and head already nodding. Crow sat at the end of Liam's bed, unlacing her boots wearily and kicking them off.
Not wanting to rest, Lenore prowled around the room, investigating every inch. It was tight fit with everyone packed inside, and her own new height and added mass of wings made exploring awkward.
Ethan sank down to sit on the floor at the foot of the unoccupied bed, picking at the beads of his rosary and tried to avoid looking at the dangling crucifix.

Björn had perched on the radiator by the window, the one thing he was sure would be able to support his weight, and peered off into the distance. Almost unconsciously, he opened a new pack of cigarettes he'd pulled from intangibility and lit up with trembling fingers.
One of many, he figured.

Giving up on exploring the tiny space, Lenore threw herself onto the second bed and sat curled up near the headboard, observing the amazing cigarettes-out-of-thin-air trick with a briefly astonished look. She'd never seen the intangibility thing before. If she had been a bit less scared of Björn, she would have asked about it. To stave off boredom, she lay down on the bed and casually ripped a shadow from the wall bit by bit, letting it waver like smoke in the air as she twirled it around her fingers. She was restless, and fidgety now that there was no where to go or terrible things to see.

Björn looked back at Lenore, glaring slightly. She couldn't rip goddamned shadows out of the wall if she didn't want people thinking she was execution-worthy, after all.
And anyway, he needed them all to fall asleep, damnit.

Len caught the look and let the shadows go instantly. They snapped back onto the wall as if drawn by magnetism.
"Sorry," she said quickly, blushing a darker shade of gray. She looked around, and noted that the others were asleep - even Ethan had nodded off where he was sitting. Finding no one to rescue her, she feigned a yawn and slipped under the covers. "Eheh. G'night!"

Björn said nothing and simply turned back to the window. He'd wait a few more hours until the girl passed out of boredom.
'A few more hours', however, was something of an understatement.
Five hours and three packs of cigarettes later, Björn decided that everyone was asleep and he was out of smokes. Time to go. He stood carefully, tossing the crumpled cig carton out onto the grass with all the butts, and tried to sneak out of the room.

Everyone was asleep. Crow was in danger of slipping off the bed, one arm hanging limply off the side, while Julian sat with head dropped down to his chest, hair obscuring his face. Len had burrowed under blankets, and Ethan....
...turned, slid down across the foot of the bed, and hit his head on the floor.
"Hnngk!"
Startled almost awake, making a noise half-between a choke and a snore, he turned over, settling on the floor and curling into a ball.

Björn was already outside the room. He heard the sound, attributed it to Liam smacking his head against something again, and closed the door with a ridiculously loud click. He cringed and continued down the corridor.

The sound of the closing door in the otherwise dead silent room caught the half-awake Ethan's attention. He blinked muzzily and turned over, wincing as his head rolled over a fresh bump.
"Wh...huh?"
Sitting up, looking around and unnecessary paranoia forcing him further awake, he took a breath and blew it out in a sigh.
"Right, right..."
Looking around the uninviting room, he noticed quite suddenly they were a person short.
"Björn?"
He stood, bracing himself on Len's bed and creeping around. It was a small room. No where to hide. Unless....
"Ah."
Of course. He must have gone out. Looking around the room again, Ethan cringed away from the shadows. He felt alone without Björn there. Well, easily solved. He'd just go and follow. He tugged the door open and left, closing it as quietly as he could behind him.
