Hm? That makes sense though. Where did it come from?

Celtic Mythology. Specifically, the tale of "Oisin in the Land of the Forever Young".

There could be other mentions of Tir na nOg, but I dunno. My book only has the one.

The writers of in my big book of World Mythology
Oisin, the son of Finn mac Cool, was out hunting one day with his father and their elite band of warriors, the Fianna. They were joined by a beautiful, fairy-like woman on a white horse. Her name was Naim of the Golden Hair and she had come, she said, to take Oisin home with her to Tir na nOg, the Land of Forever Young.

Naim told them that she had loved Oisin since she and her father had ridden through Ireland some years before. She had watched him then, running like a young deer through the meadows, looking every inch a huntsman and a warrior. For seven years and seven days she had returned, invisible, to watch him grow up and , at last, her father had given her permission to declare her love.

She cast a spell over Oisin so that he loved her too, and they rode across on Naim's white steed across lakes, rivers and the misty sea to Tir na nOg. There they married and lived happily for 300 years, a period that seemed like three weeks to Oisin.

Eventually Oisin became homesick. He longed to see his father and his friends again. Naim did all she could to dissuade him from returning to Ireland. She could not change his mind, however, so she gave him her white horse to make the journey and she warned him not to dismount or he would never return.

When Oisin got back to Ireland he found that everything was different. The countryside was different, his father and the Fianna were long dead and a new faith was being practised. Deeply saddened, Oisin began his journey back to his fairy wife. He had not gone far, however, when a group of peasants struggling to life a heavy stone into a wagon asked him for help. He agreed willingly but, as he stooped, his reins broke and Oisin fellt to the ground. Immediatly, his horse vanished and Oisin was transformed dramatically into a very old man, blind and near to death.

He was carried to St Patrick, who was walking the land and preaching of the new god. The saint recieved him into the new faith. He also managed to take down some of Oisin's stories of the old days when the Fianna ruled the land. But soon the warrior-poet, and the world he had known, passed away for ever.

A rather sad tale, in my opinion. BTW, Finn mac Cool is the name of one of the two big Celtic Heroes, the other being Cuchulainn (Koo-hoolan).

The love spell? I assume he was still in love with Naim, but he just wanted to see his family and friends. I guess Naim should have told him that they'd be dead by that time.

I feel for poor Finn. He never got to see his son again...

I'll be leaving for Japan tomorrow. I can try to find some.

Omg really?! Your going to Japan?? T_____T No faiiirrr~~~ well if this post isn't too late......lol it'd be awesome if you could find some! Aww I wish I could get some too >3< English translated ones only though xDD I can't read Japanese yet lol. Well if you find any, and if they're not too expensive.....is it possible to buy them from you? o_o; Eer don't know how this is going to work but yeah..... >_>

That's kind of sad and not so good for the poor guy. He's been in "love" with her because of the spell....then that wouldn't really be him anymore. The fairy lady sure is strange lol.

I remember that story...

At least it wasn't his fault and he died shortly afterward. I feel more sorry for that dude that turned around while bringing his love back from hades. He had to live with the knowledge that if he had been just a little more patient he would gotten her back.

Yeah, that must have really sucked.

Patience is a virtue. And I can't stand impatient people.

Just because it's something Suikoden related, and I get to be lazy and not look it up myself, what does Sonya's end of game portrait say again? Obviously if she hadn't forgiven Tir (I hate that name lol) on some level she'd be hunting him right about now, but I can't quite remember what she ends up doing. Teo Memorial or something???

That's all it says? Lame... I guess it makes sense though since that was her specialty and Tir became the 'president' for a while.
