Ari bit her lip thoughtfully. She really wasn't sure...but it seemed plausable. But then, it could turn out giraffs were related to something completely different, like Elephants were to Tapirs or something. "I'm not sure...I think so...never really thought about it before," she murmured with a sheepish shrug.
Hu? What was the other feathery creature doing? Rawiya sqwawked indignantly, tossing her head. She shuffled her front hooves and clicked her beak at the other gryffin. Why didn't it talk to her? She wanted to play.

Kala cocked her head, emitting a noise that sounded curiously like the bleating of a lamb. She sized Rawiya up for a brief moment. Maybe the thing would like to run? Kala absolutely loved chasing things, despite the nature of the animals she was composed of.
Making up her mind, she struggled to her feet with dificulty (those long legs weren't meant for sitting on, after all) and suddenly lunged at the other Aerandir, squawking playfully.
Progolo, about to respond, jumped at Kala's abrupt movement. For a second of horror, he thought Kala was actually attacking the other Aerandir. She'd never seen another of her own kind before now...But, with relief, he noticed the playful glint in her yellow eyes.
Still, he shifted on to his knees, ready to spring to his feet if Kala caused trouble.
"So, what is her name?" he asked, hoping to keep his voice casual so that the woman wouldn't assume, as he had, that there was anything to worry about in Kala's behavior.

Rawiya was surprised. No one had lunged at her like that before! The other two Aerandir had been far more shy and she had pretty much sqwawked at them the entire time. The had never come after her before! With a startled and dramtic shriek she pushed off the ground, scrambling away in the sand and racing off along the beach.
Ari didn't seem to worried, even with how Wiya had responded. Rawiya was always overdramtic and always made more of a fuss then she really felt was needed. She even did false feelings at times, as she had whitnessed in fake pouting sessions and other events. So she continued the conversation, keeping the casual tone without any problem, since that was what it was in her mind, "Ah...her name's Rawiya. Oh! And I'm Arianna by the way."

Kala was thrilled with the reaction she procured from the vibrantly patterned Aerandir, and voiced this with another happy caw as she persued Rawiya. Once again, she had assumed her awkward gait; legs stiff, head against her chest, and wings raised. She quickly found, however, that she couldn't keep up this way, and her knees hurt from doing this.
She skipped to a stop, frustrated. How did she move so fast? She watched Rawiya for a moment. Man, she ran strangely. Bending her knees, leaning forward, thrusting her head out ahead of her...
Hm.
Experimentally, she lifted one of her hooves by bending it at the knee. Then another, then the third...Huh, it felt almost natural...
Happily, she resumed her charge after Rawiya. Wow, it was a lot easier this way! She quickly fell into a rythm, taking advantage of her long legs to nearly catch up with the other Aerandir. She still couldn't bring herself to extend her neck all the way out, but, being part giraffe, it felt better to hold it out at a roughly 30 degree-tilt.
"Wark!" she cawed, informing Rawiya of how close she had come.
"Progolo D'Gagn," Progolo said, extending his hand. Then he nodded towards Kala's receeding form. "And her name is Kalarune."
His eyes, which had drifted over to Kala, now remained there. Ah, she'd figured out how to bend her knees! It didn't look nearly so comfortale for her, now.
Progolo's gaze reverted back to Ari, and he continued, "How long has--Rawiya, you said?--how long has she been in that form? She seems quite confident with herself."

"Pleased to meet you," Ari said with a firm hand shake, smiling brightly. It wasn't everyday you met a new friend, at least, not on this island. She had actually only met what...two other people? Something like that. It was nice to see a new face.
She tilted her head slightly in thought as she turned her gaze to watch the aerandir, "Hm...Wiya's been that way for quite some time I suppose...but I got this letter today...says I need to find some things before she changes." She had never seen the change from gryphon to child, so she didn't know what to expect.
Rawiya threw her head this way and that, making that hichuping bray that only zebras could immitate. At first she thought she was getting away from the odd creature...but then she could hear it right behind her! So she veered to the right abruptly, making a sharp turn in the opposite direction and bounding off that way. Her feet easily twisted and adapted to her new choice of destination. She even lifted her front feet slightly in a few powerful, jumping strides. She'd outrun this other one yet!

Progolo glanced quickly over the letter she held, silently speed-reading. "I see...oh, you need feathers?" he inquired. "I've got tons of those stupid things laying around. How many do you need? Two? I can give those to you, if you like..." he said, looking thoughtful as he tried to remember what colors he'd picked up. Mostly they were down feathers, but occaisionally one of his gyphon charges would drop longer, prettier wing or tail feathers.
Kala was not nearly as graceful when turning, almost falling flat on her face before managing to change direction. Once she'd composed herself, however, it didn't take her long to catch up. Her knobby knees sure didn't look graceful when Kala was sitting or using them wrong, but in action, they were like liquid steel. Kala felt a warm spirit of pride and competetiveness welling up. As she drew closer to Rawiya, she stretched out her neck. She just needed...to get...a bit...closer...
With an excited squawk, she clamped her long looked beak down on Rawiya's tail. She hadn't bitten hard enough to hurt her, but it would definetly slow her down.

Ari seemed to brighten, "Really? Yeah I need two...that would be wonderful! I don't dare pull out Wiya's feathers and she hasn't been sheding lately..." She seemed very pleased now, at least figuring out how to get something on the list. And what a strange list it was, now that she thought about it. Ah well.
Rawiya let out a shriek. It was impossible to tell at this point if she was being dramatic or if she was really terrified of being attacked by the creature behind her. She pushed her hooves off agains the ground, flinging her body sharply to the side with a jerk. When her front hooves landed again she bucked, flining her back legs into the air and trusting out with vegence with her hooves.

Kala did the wise thing and let go before Rawiya could snap her frail neck, dodging out of the way of her powerful kick. Yikes, this wasn't so fun anymore! Scrunching to the ground, she bleated plaintively, as if begging for forgiveness and explaining that it was just a game.
"I don't really have any with me...if you'd like to walk back to number 3 with me, you can choose your favorite colors?" he said, raising an eyebrow smilingly. "I raise griffins for a research organization...That's why I'm out here...Anyways, they shed their feathers all over the place--"
Progolo's eyes darted over to the Aerandir at the sound of the shriek, slightly alarmed. The zebra/macaw was thrashing about, and Kala was squatting in the sand, looking fearful. "Kala?" he called with concern, climbing to his feet.

Once released Rawiya did the only thing an herbavor would normally do in the face of "danger": she ran. She skidded away, tossing up sand. Leaping forward she broke into a gallope, racing down the beach and away from the funny creature that had bit her tail! Little did she know it rather looked like she had attacked the other aerandir instead of it being the otherway around.
"Alright, that sounds good. Though I should probably have Wiya pick since I think they're going to be hers-" She stopped and didn't finish her setence, having followed Progolo's gaze. She too catch sight of the fast paced actions that took place before Wiya raced off away down the sea shore, "RAWIYA!" She looked dismayed and a little angry. What in the world had she been doing. She signed, shifting her gaze to Kala, "Is she ok...?"

Progolo jogged over to his charge, immediately assuming the worse.
She broke her neck, she broke her back, she's permanately crippled, oh, why wasn't I watching?!
He stooped and quickly examined her. To his surprise, Kala didn't even have a scratch, she just looked startled. Again, she called out piteously after the Aerandir she'd upset with an unmeldoic squawk.
"Huh...she looks alright..." Progolo mused, still scrutinizing her for anything he might have missed. He looked after Rawiya, frowning nervously.

Ari got up and went over to Kala herself. She didn't want anything to be wrong with her...and it would be especially horrible if Wiya had actually got her or something. She looked rather cross, as if she was going to get a headache, "Well that's good...I'm sooo sorry...I don't know what got into her...she's not usually the violent type..."
Rawiya began to slow her pace once everyone was out of sight. Her long ears flickered back and she went into a tight trot, her wings held ridgidly. She felt uneasy and wasn't sure if it was safe to go back. So she walked through the waves, splashing up water in her wake, trying to calm herself down.

Kala got to her feet, indicating that her legs were still in order, and trotted a few steps in Rawiya's direction.
"Cwaw?" she chirped. Come back... her voice and posture seemed to coney. Whether Rawiya would interpret it as such, however, remained to be seen.
Progolo fidgeted as Kala moved away from his protective hovering. "Maybe it was...just a misunderstanding?" he offered lamely.

Ari sighed, brushing the braids from her face as she hung her head a little, "I suppose it could have been...though that really isn't an excuse for kicking..." She turned to watch Kala and see if Rawiya was going to come back. Hopefully she hadn't run too far off.
Rawiya hadn't gone too far, to be sure. She had eventually jogged around in circles and headed back down the beach. But when Kala and the others came into sight she was careful. What if that other creature was going to attack her again. She heard the caw...but...wasn't sure. Her ears flickered back and she stayed where she was.

(( Obviously Rawiya isn't used to other Aerandir being as outgoing as she is... xd ))
Kala decided that if Rawiya wouldn't come to her, then she'd have to be the one to close the distance. Squaring her shoulders bravely, she cautiously made her way towards the flighty Aerandir, gurgling in her extensive throat comfortingly.
"Maybe Kala hurt her..." Progolo said, sighing. He didn't want to believe it, but it was perfectly possible. "She can get a bit rowdy. That would explain the shriek. And the kicking."

(( xD Nope. The other two aerandir she met were really shy.))
"Oh, she seems just fine. Wiya's just a little overdramtic. I'm sure she's ok..." Ari shook her head. She remembered the time Wiya had fallen over with Li and had flailed around pretending she was in horrible pain to get attention. She did that a lot, the silly girl.
Rawiya let out a snort through her beak, bending her head down and looking rather frustrated. Her ears were stilled pinned and she was still shifting her hooves about restlessly, her tail trashing this way and that. The creature was drawing nearer....she wasn't going to let it bite her this time! No sir!
