Tara_Nepion Tolara nodded. She had never met this I'rus but from the sounds of it he was the weyrwomans weyrmate. It was odd how often life was throwing it in her face lately. A flight and an errant weyrmate. Shaking her head Tolara continued to repeat, word for word what was in her note. "I'm not sure how much you've had a chance to look over things at Benden, or even if this affects Benden. As I'm sure you've heard we had a bit of trouble at the Hatching. Unfortunatly it's nothing new. Most of the riders haven't had a chance to encounter the...attitude...that just occured. This partly stems from the slight famine that has been going on. It's nothing bad yet, but people are starting to grumble that we, Fort, have been taking too much. The weryleader had only got the report in before Threadfall, so there hasn't been much time to plan out what to do. I thought I'd warn you though. Tempers are running high and we need to be very careful. Please check your records and send a reply back if this seems to be the trend in Benden as well. There's a few other things we might need to talk about once you get a chance to look through Benden's records. If you need me just send a message allright?" Beriadi nods slowly, "I'll check the records right away," she pases a moment, looking worried, "I'll send a flit with a message about what I find..."

Tolara nodded genially, "Don't worry too much, we'll get this under hand eventually." Getting up she nodded at the Weyrwoman. "I'm going to get a nap in before Glith and I head back to Fort so we'll be here for a bit." With a tired wave Fort's Weyrwoman turned and hurried out of the dining area. She was looking forward to a bit of rest.

Ray looks over the sleeping dragonets. Most of them were asleep; as their weyrlings finished oiling, she sent them off to learn how to work with wherhide, to make riding straps and harnesses. Only a few were left, and as she watched, the left to join their fellows in one of the workrooms.
Turning to T'thia, she grins. "So, how's Arizath feeling today? Up for some betweening?"
((Youngster Weyrlings: the leatherworking class is pretty bland, just pretend that you're playing with leather, you can socialize some and get to know each other or just pretend that it's over and get some meals for yourselves and do your socializing there.
Older Weyrlings: Say that Wrath called your dragon in and hustle down to the beach. I'd like to get this over with.))

Arizath, who had been sunning close by after his own bath and oiling bugled at the sound of the final lesson. T'thia beamed at her bronze before turning to Rayi
"looks like he's fit and ready, we just need to pick up our straps"
she turned and ran towards her dragon leaping to his neck and setteling quickly, quick jonts around the wyre without straps may be harmless but between was completley different. as she settled she called to the wyreling master
"see you at the beach!"
Arizath gave his neck breaking lunge into the air before circeling on wingtip and heading towards the wyreling barracks. T'thia ran inside and hauled on the riding gear she had been given for her between lessons, not all of it fit quite right, but she could go to the lower caverns later and get some proper gear. she grabbed the freshly oiled straps and gave them a hard tug to test
"good thing i oiled these yesturday"
she grinned and she ran out to Arizath, her belt and jacket slung over ehr shoulder her straps over the other. she dropped the belt and jacket and began to set the straps checking the buckles and tightening them where Arizath said it was needed. she shrugged into the jacket that was too short in the arm length, she had definatley grown since her candidate robe measurments. she straped on the belt and hauled herself back up to the gleaming bronzes back and straped herself in
"alright Riz, let's fly!"
she pumped her arm in her enthusiasm and Arizath again launched and headed swiftley towards the beach
are you scared mine?
"not at all love, i know you're there, right under me, even if i won't be able to feel you. i trust you dear heart, always have"
i am always here, and always will be mine
T'thia gave her dragon an affectionate pat on the shoulder as he touched down on the sands of the beach. T'thia looked around to see who else was arriving
"we'll be full riders soon, and we'll get our own wyre"
i like the higher wyre's, can we get one of those? it's easier for take off, and faster to hunt
T'thia gave a small laugh
"you can have whatever wyre you want dear heart"
Arizath gave a bugle of joy at his riders gift of the wyre being his choice before settling down once more as anxiety and nervs rose with the last lesson.

Grinning at T'thia's enthusiasm, Ray makes her way to her own weyr, leaving Wrath snoozing on the beach. Scrambling into her padded wherhide pants and jacket, she recalls her own between lessons. Every time before, she had relied on someone else to guide the way, and now it was up to her and Wrath... It was a strange feeling at first but now she almost couldn't trust someone else's navigation.
After cramming her feet into her soft boots, Ray snags Wrath's harness from its peg, and hurries back down to the beach.
Did you call the other Weyrlings from this class?
Of course.
Sure enough, the other youngsters were rushing up, some still struggling into their jackets and a few already wearing their helmets. They were so excited, their dragons' eyes were bright and whirling...
Don't worry; they will all be fine. All of them have been between before, they know what to expect. They won't panic.
How can you be sure?
I can't. But I trust them, and their dragons, to see them through, back into the sunlight.
Ray had to be content with that. She settled her jacket properly, feeling sweat trickling down her spine as she waited for the rest of the class.

T'thia watched as the other members of her class settled on the sands some looking about to be sick, she gave a small grin, she was more excited then nervouse she knew she wouldn't be lost and soon she would join the wings of fighting dragons instead of just relaying firestone or healing threadscores. she watched as Rayi came to the beach and twitched her jacket on T'thia was slightly aware of the annoying shortness of length in her sleeves and pant legs but it was only for one lesson. she tooka deep breath and decided to at least look busy by twitching her straps and fidgeting with her belt buckles and what not.

Wrath asks that we meet her at the beach, Faith remarked to her rider.
"Another lesson?" Ava had a hunch what this one would be. "Hold on a minute..." Dashing back into the barracks, she reemerged wearing her jacket and helmet, and carrying Faith's harness. After securing the riding harness on the queen, Ava sighed happily. "Okay, let's go!" Together, dragon and rider went to join the rest of the class.

((*zips in* aahh, I'm sorry I havn't been showing up here at all recently >.< thanksgiving break 'n all sweatdrop ))
Niko sit's up from her bed, rubbing her eyes blearily. Morning, dear-heart... She thinks to Gyomanth. All she get's in reply is a sleepy 'Morning,' while Gyo just rolls over in his half-sleep. Rolling her eyes, Niko get's up and pokes Gyomanth's stomach. "Wake up, you big brute!" She says, laughing.
Gyomanth lazily opens one eyelid, exposing softly whirling green eyes. I'm awake, I'm awake, no more poking, rider mine..... He yawns hugely, showing his large mouth.

Well, she can't put it off any longer. Sensing Ray's anxiety, Isskio swoops down to land on her shoulder, crooning encouragement. Ray raises a hand and Isskio butts her head into the girl's palm. Girl? She still feels like one, especially right now.
Swallowing a mouthful of air, Ray begins. "Between is scary. You know that. But remember that between can also help. In Fall, if you or your dragon is scored, a skip between will kill Thread. So when your mind starts to scream at you when you're in there, remember two things.
One: Your dragon is with you, and will not lose you. Two: Between may very well save you or your dragon someday.
"You never really lose the fear, but after a while you can control it. Remember that your fear of between is what will keep you prepared to deal with it, to respect it as much as it deserves.
"It's almost ridiculous, how easy it is. But at the same time, it's very important that you keep in your mind exactly where you want to go. Make sure you are high enough that you don't accidentally come out in solid rock. It has happened." Victim of her vivid imagination, Ray tries very hard to block out the mental image.
"While you're still learning to transfer, always always check with a senior rider that your image of a location is correct. Over the next few days, we will be touring the major Holds, but do not think that one visit makes you a Master; you've been studying the diagrams of the different holds, and learning to hold the images, and those of you with flits have learned the importance of a solid image, but please, for your own safety, always take precautions."
Isskio nibbled on her ear, and Ray took a shaky breath. "Okay, mount up. Wrath will be passing the image of our destination to your dragons; we'll be taking our first transfers from one side of the Bowl to the other. After that a few times, we'll start visiting the Weyrs."
She turned to climb up Wrath's shoulder, and once she was strapped in, turned to survey the Weyrlings... All were staring expectantly at her. Coughing, Ray gave the signal to launch.
Surprisingly, once they were in the air, she felt worlds better. The Weyrlings formed up behind her in the wedge formation, and followed Wrath up toward the Star Stones.
Wrath, tell thm to look down and make sure they memorize the layout. Then give them the coordinates for the other side, and have them pass them back.
Sure thing.
She glanced back at the Weyrlings again, hovering in formation over the stones. One by one, Wrath relayed the coordinates from each pair, and Ray corrected a few minor details to send back.
Okay, I think that means we're ready... She raised her hand and gave the signal to jump, holding the image of the other side bright in her mind's eye, praying that the Weyrlings were doing just the same...
((Okay guys, this should be fairly routine. Just jump! Hopefully all of you will get through this fine...))

::Myyth sat down looking some what dubiously at the leather in front of her. Spirith, her dragon, had already wandered about the room a few times, and was now throughly bored.
"Why are we here?" The dragon asked, her voice almost reaching a whine. Looking annoyed and and bit bored herself Myyth tried to explain to the dragon. "I should be learning how to make things with this" she said gesturing to the leather in sitting on her lap.
"But your not doing anything." The disgruntled dragon said as she found a warm spot to lay down. "I'll start doing something when I can work out what I should be doing" Myyth said. With a muffled grunt the tiny green went to sleep, planning on staying that way till this "Lesson" was over.

T'thia and Arizath launched into the air hovering a dragonlength behind Wrath and Rayi. Arizath proudley flew the tip of the wedge as he was now aperantley the only bronze left from their clutch. the coordinates were given and Arizath waited a moment more
ready mine?
"ready, count with me remember"
T'thia held the image of where they were meant to go as clear as day in her mind and then she felt it, the breath shattering cold of between, though used to it after turns of hold hoping a dragon back it was still a starteling experience
I am here mine one....
T'thia counted with the bronze
"two...."
they counted in unison the last second
"three" three
then they were out in the sunlight, only breaths after departure from the other side of thw wyre, Arizath bugled in triumph at the completion of the most difficult task to be taught a rider and dragon, but also to warn any of those who had jumped the gun and gone before him or who might be comming in directley after. he turned on wingtip and circled waiting for the other wyrelings to come from between
we did it mine, we wen between
"yes love, we did, and you were spelndid"
T'thia gave Riz a celebratory smack on the neck and craned her own to watch for incomming wyrelings.

((I've had a couple of computer problems recently. I think I got them fixed now.))
Springing from the ground, Blazeth joined the rest of the class in the air, bugling in joy. Just as excited as his dragon, L'del was grinnning from ear to ear. Between training, at last!
Wrath is giving me the coordinates, the bronze said. Be ready!
I am! He reassured his dragon happily.
Here we go! Abruptly, the sunlight was gone, replaced by the black cold emptiness of between. L'del faced it bravely, although a part of him shuddered at the reality. However, he'd faced it once before, when he'd been found on Search and brought to the weyr. And he had complete and total trust in his dragon... they would never be lost in the vast nothingness.
We're here. And they were. Back out in the warm daylight, L'del yelled in triumph. "Whooooooooo! Again, Blazeth bugled.

Niko quietly exits her little weyr, looking up just as a bronze hatchling pops into view above. "What the-" She grins as the rider on the dragon's back shouts joyously, and waves up at him.
Gyomanth rumbles loudly from his sleeping spot. Who are you looking at? He asks.
Smiling back at Gyo, she answers "Oh, just another weyrling like me."

T'thia watches as L'del safley returns from between her heart is torn two ways but she gives him a bright smile as he returned from the darkness. she threw her arm in the air and pupmed it a couple times at him in cheer of his acomplishment as Arizath returned Blazeth's bugle. a lot had happened since the two had impressed the bronze pair and T'thia's mind raced with memories of such moments before she was suddenly thrown upward as Arizath dodged the entrance of another wyreling
"what was that love?"
do not worry mine, dragons always know where others are, i knew he would have hit us if we stayed there so i moved
Arizath leveled at his knew hight and continued his circling.

Ray grins over her shoulder at the Weyrlings, who all managed to make it safely out of between.
Okay Wrath, tell them we're going to visit Benden Hold next; once they've mastered between, it's the place where they'll be spending lots of time on Watch. Give them the coordinates.
Good point. After that Fort Weyr?
Yes.
Wrath turns her attention to the Weyrlings. We're going to Benden Hold, then after making sure everyone arrives, we're going directly to Fort Weyr. Here are your coordinates... she sends images first of the Hold, with its outbuildings and cots and then of Fort Weyr. Show the images to your riders, then make sure your riders know them. Then have your riders send the images to you, and you show them to me.
The two waited until the images trickled back; they were all correct.
Ray gave the signal again, and they hopped between to Benden Hold.
((Netesath's clutch: We're going on a tour of the Weyrs today; Benden Hold is just to spice things up a little bit. After Fort, we're going to Igen Weyr, then Ista Weyr, then High Reaches and finally my old home, Telgar Weyr. After that, we're coming home, and you're dismissed to your afternoon duties until tomorrow.))
