"Asa'nunu!"
The plaintive voice wailed across the windy grasslands, followed by a grief-stricken roar.
A dark-furred lion bowed his head, mane whipping around his face. Still he could not accept the fact that his mate, his adu'lai, was gone. And he could not find his young!
Padding onwards, his face was blank and lost, barely knowing where he went any more.

Raising his muzzle to the sky, Ama Galu'nadi continued to sniff around him. The same direction that had carried the scent of his mother, now carried the scent of water. At least this smell wasn't a hallucination, although the first did bring him upon Ina'li.. "It...seems a ways away, but I think we...should happen upon it before too long." Ama perked up, his ears listening around them. He silently wondered if any of the others of their once great pride might be headed in the same direction. The world and gods worked in strange ways, stranger in some than others.

((A couple more posts should bring us to the Southlands, I think. XD))

He took in another deep breath of this faint water-like scent. By the look of his fellow lion's condition, Ina'li thought this must be an even better discovery for Ama than it was for himself; but precious all the same. His thick mane waved a bit in the breeze, and he stepped slowly towards the sweet smell.

As Ina'li slowly began to step forward, Ama continued his quest for the watery smell. As he walked though, he noticed that the lands were changing, even more so than where they'd been a while ago, when he awoke for the day. "I wonder...are we nearing a border of some sort?" Curiously, Ama turned his head back to his companion, to see what Ina'li thought on the situation.

The scent of his mother had faded while he caught up with Ina'li and been conversing with the other lion, but as they walked, Us'kali's scent began to slowly waft through his nostrils once again. Ama wanted to speak up, but wasn't sure if it was just his hopes, or wishful thinking. Instead, Ama simply padded towards what they hoped would be water, silent once again.

Slowly, a lioness that was under a dying tree seemed to stir from what one could imagine was a thousand year sleep. She looked up to the scarce amount of leaves remaining upon the nearly dead plant and couldn't help but squint as the sunlight seemed to burn her eyes.

Her ears could hear water nearby, but as her eyes shifted to look for it, she found that none was in plain sight. In disappointment, she looked back down to the rather dry dust underneath her paws and softly uttered "...Mother... Brother... Kala wonders where you all are..."

Finding ever so slight the comfort underneath the tree, the lioness simply remained in her spot.

Ina'li turned his head, swiveling his ears and listening carefully to--- the wind. He closed his eyes; letting his black fur catch the breeze. The wanidatsi also listened to Ama while he standing still... A border? Ina reopened his ocean blue eyes and examined the ground beneath him. Ama was right... it seemed... different. Was it possible they were already entering a new land? The large black lion began his steady pace again, while thinking this over. Meanwhile, he answered the other lion; still unsure himself.
"Perhaps, Ama..." Ina'li replied, "I suggest we should keep a low profile... Just incase. If there is water, I doubt we'll be the only ones to want it..."

U'yosi G'vhi was truly his namesake today. The once sturdy male was painfully thin, tattooed fur hanging from his frame as he stalked the grasses with narrowed eyes. Hunger tore at his insides; normally grief and loneliness kept him from noticing the need to hunt; but now he could not ignore it. The spirits would not want him to waste the gift of life he had been given, and he still had his young to find. But calling out for them now would not do; he could barely keep the low growl in his chest as his thin paws carried him closer to the peaceful gazelle and her child.

Tawa'di Kanati noticed the other male from far of, he himself lazying around in the warm savannah grass. He was hungry himself, but didn't bother to hunt very much. What could an old lion like him catch? Nothing bigger then a mouse, probably. So he just idly let the world go by, wondering when his time was. He didn't want to die anytime soon, oh no. He was the only nvwati left, and he had to find at least one apprentice to train before her left. A good three would be ideal. But alas, so much of the pride had died, that there probably were very many talented ones left.
He turned his attention from his thoughts and back to the other lion, his memory not quite letting him grasp who he was watching.

Finally releasing his roar, the tattooed male leapt for the gazelle's back. He knew if he did not get the leap he would have no chance at the chase; he poured as much strength as he had into his back leg muscles, mane flying as the startled preybeasts suddenly started fleeing with a thunder of hooves.
But the hapless mother bucked widly beneath his claws, and U'yosi tore in viciously for the throat hold that would suffocate the gazelle. The fawn would not live much longer without the mother either, and he needed as much as he could.

The struggling was finally over. The hunter stood over the kill victoriously, his sides heaving and his muzzle stained with red as he finally was able to eat. But as he dipped his head, something caught at his eye. He blinked, stared again, head motionless over the kill. Was that... another lion? An Ela'wadiyi? Perhaps he knew of little Tsi'hilu! He raised his head and called out in a strong voice.

"What ho, brother!"

Tawa'di's ears flicked forward as the lion called for him. Well, this wa s alittle different. Must be another Ela'wadiyi, if he hunted in these ands, and even called him brother. Of course, he didn't feel that young.
Tawa'di pulled himself up out of his comfortable position, his bones cracking as he stretched the soreness away from his muscles. He slowly started to walk towards the other male, his coat not as shiney and gleam as it could be, and his male quite frazzled. Not that Tawa'di cared, he never had bothered to make himself presentable, never attempted to lure a mate or any of that mushy nonsense.
"'Lo there, fellow Ela'wadiyi" he said as he moved closer. "What can this old lion help you with?"

U'yosi was somehow relieved to see that this was not yet another relic of his fevered imagination. He stepped forward, not too far from the kill as already he could see the vultures starting to circle. Why, this lion was indeed very old.. a venerable elder, he corrected himself firmly. He dipped his painted face low.

"An honour, venerable one, to meet another after so long. My name is U'yosi G'vhi, hunter." He glanced at the other's equally scrawny frame and old limbs, and sighed inwardly before dipping his muzzle again. "Would you care to share this kill? I have not seen another Ela'wadiyi in so long...."

His mind had blanked the memories of his beloved Asa'nunu's death, just that now she was gone, and Tsi'hilu must be found. Another Ela' was at least a start.
