SirSteaksause Pup in Fluff Riino Hiya ^^ I play bassoon, I've been playing for about a year, and I just recently learned to play tenor saxophone which I've been playing for only about a month. I'm a freshman and won't be marching until my sophmore year, but that's what I'll be playing then. I'm marching with my oboe next year. 3nodding I'm so excited! I can't wait!!!Wait, If you do play A double reed instrument in Marching Band, isn't it death to your reeds? I mean those tiny pieces of cane are expensive! Who can afford such entities. you're supposed to use plastic reeds for marching. 3nodding

saxophonicus I play sax, and i want to play the oboe. I have a friend who can teach me, any advice? my only advice would be to use Emerald reeds because they are (in my opinion) the BEST reeds money can buy. Also, if you take up the oboe, STICK WITH IT! You'll get far. 3nodding

True plastic is better for a louder sound but in my opinion, wooden ones make a much fuller sound, and the bassoon is sooo much cooler, I got a half paid ride to college because of it. biggrin

One more thing don't sneeze while playing it..... It will hurt if hits the roof of your mouth.... And yeah.... Stick with it.... Its fun to play... and if you ever want to tryout for a really good band, you'll most likely get in if you can't get the oboe in tune and sort of have a virbroto.... (Not many people play the oboe very well)

I want to try plastic...

bah...our school had a flute overflow and I was tired of the 'first chair number one flutist' and stuff.
So I changed to bassoon.
((I'm in guard during Marching season))
I just started. And I hardly know anything, except a few scales. ((but i'm picking it up quick, and my private instructor is the Principal bassoonist of the detroit symphony orchestra. or something like that. xD))

I wanted to switch to bassoon but my BD wants me to stick with the oboe for now. Mainly becuase the songs that we're playing are Christmas songs and our bass section (a bass clarinet and a tuba) is already too loud. We're going to be getting more people soon though so he'll probably let me switch when we need a bigger bass section. If he doesn't, oh well. I love my oboe and I'm fine as long as I'm playing a double reed. 3nodding

Hee. We lack bass. So we need a lot more. XDDD
But our band programs getting bigger, since there are 13 tubas in our 5th (starting) grade band program, and 7 of them are girls. ^^
but...the bad thing is...there are no good news about new oboes or bassoons...T.T
